What a absolute gorgeous masterpiece of an album - It's true art in it's purest form. I'm tempted to label it as indie/folk but it's just art in my opinion when think about it - never mind the labels and genres. As time passes this will become a classic and a defining album from the decade we are in, just wait and see. In the future we will reminiscene, sentimentally, the time when this album came out and what it meant for us as a generation. The melancholic, delicate, reflective music Sufjan Stevens makes are heartbreaking. And dare I say, CARRIE & LOWELL is in my opinion without a doubt his best work, just perfect. Just as some older folks feel nostalgic about the music of the past, 60s, 70s and 80s we will feel the same about this. This album will stand out as a influential and (in time) legendary piece of art - a musical milestone of the 2010's! Enough said, I apologize for the rambling.

Steven's music is incredibly intimate and delicate without ever being relatable other than in the emotional highway it connects to the listener's interiority. It's agnostically spiritual, which is the boldness you mention when speaking of an answer to a question. It's undeniably unique, in every way, and to compare it would be like comparing the Earth to any other planet in our solar system: it's impossible, not even remotely, because of the intricate nature of Earth, not because it's special.
