Thank you for posting this, I was on holiday first time around so missed it. I loved both the Minstrel and Bruni with a passion that has only been surpassed by Desert Orchid.
The Minstrel wasn't even the best 3 year old colt in Vincent O Briens yard that year, his best was dual Arc winner Alleged who took a long time to come to himself and was given plenty of time by O Brien who's patience was rewarded by an Arc win later in the year
As often the case, Lester didn’t start to fast , then geared with excellent timing for a great finish. GOAT , without doubt. The Minstrel was a small horse comparatively to others , but hear he comes with his white socks , it’s The Minstrel, it’s The Minstrel, Lester Piggot on The Minstrel wins , great stuff, Peter O Sullivan commentating, bring back the 1970s !!!!
If my information is correct, this race eventually turned out to be the very last for The Minstrel, the winner here. Because of the reasons I haven't understood yet, the connections abandoned the plan to run him in the Arc and retired him to stud right away.
@Myfrobert I think there were some outbreak of something? And they had to bring his quarantine plans forward, he had already been found a stud where he was going to stand.
@@simonhindley65 Quite agree with you sir, Freddie was very overrated. Lester rode a very good judge of the pace of this race . For me his best horse was Sir Ivor and the 1972 Derby on Roberto was pure class and another momentous judge of pace. May I say all this hype about Frankel is overrated in my view Brigadier Gerard would have beat him and in the early 70s The opposition was much stronger and in tense too. My late Dad ust to say it is pointless comparing one era to another and sometimes impossible to judge but it happens. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
A small chestnut colt with four white socks was The Minstrel & there weren't too many gutsier than him.
God like timing. Phew! What a pair!!!
A great horse again never quite got the credit he deserved
Such a brave horse and of course having got to the front the incomparable Maestro Lester was not for losing.

The Minstrel was such a tough horse, never the most imposing of horses but definitely one of the most honest.
He was tiny

@@glynnevans1851 I think you are being misled by nostalgia about the Brigadier. Frankel was like a rocket ship compared to him. Watch their races.
