Nice hat mate! I have a beanie looking hat made of chamois leather, called an Aussie soaker hat. Exactly the same, dunk it in water and the evaporation keeps my bald bonce cool! Steve
That was interesting, I never knew that. I only have 2 hats, a motorcycle crash helmet and my plastic hard hat from work. Pretty sure neither would have the desired effect of a Pith helmet lol. Take care, Poo
I did not know that you could soak a pith hemet in water! It makes sense! That will really cool off one's head! I always wear a hat during the summer. Mine is a straw cowboy hat with a wide brim to keep the sun off. I've never soaked it in water though. I wonder if soaking a straw hat would cause it to lose its shape?
Looking for a safe tried-and-true technique to clean the water stains off of my WW2-era US Army sun helmet. I'm thinking of a good sudsing followed by a gentle scrubbing followed by a good rinsing. Thoughts, please?

First thing to do on the plot is to put my helmet in my butt. Once it's soaked I'm ready to go.

I think that a straw hat would probably loose its shape.
