I was born in 1960 so was lucky enough to have grown up watching this kind of thing (midnight special, mtv when it was actually music videos, etc) and seeing this is pure catharsis, especially in todays day and age. Thanks for uploading!
thank you for this, I needed it, just to remind me that those spaced cowboys could turn the world upside down as well as my mind... I'm 21 and I'm completely convinced that they are the best band that might have existed (not sure they were real)
Lol. Yeah. I was born in 77 and my parents weren't really into this. This is me, on my own, being a fan. I knew about this band, but didn't KNOW!! It's possibly my favorite band EVER!!! The Doors and Led Zeppelin are my top 3. Before my time really. I was alive during Zeppelin but they were done when Bonham died in 1980. I love Sly Stone. Only Cynthia Robinson died 😢. 1967-1973, they were soo awesome 👌 👏 👍!
Excellence bar none, real music right there, but let’s give our brother James Brown some credit because if I can remember correctly he was the first musician I ever heard coin the term “funk” or “funky”, someone correct me if I’m wrong….
by the Year 1972 Sly an the Family Stone were Out of Hits No More Hit Records by 1973 Sly an the Family Stone could only do Music from Their Past Hits No New Hits for Sly an the Family after the Year 1971
Wtf? They had Family affair & If you want me to stay. It was after late 1973 no more hits due to Sly increased descent to the abyss of drug use & erratic behavior.
That's gold and is worth 100000 x likes. I mean honestly!
Thanks toddan , Great to hear you appreciated my video ..2493 Views yust 74 likes....
Sly 🎉is gold!!
In my heart, I really believe sly in the family stone started the Funk movement, and Larry Graham really lit the fire❤
It might be very true !!!
I would say James Brown & the Famous Flames, The Upsetters, Clinton, and the Bar-Kays (among others) were establishing the funk sound before them.
Also beautiful to witness this moment when their music started morphing into this minimalist funk
THANK YOU for lettin me hear this again. This is the definition of FUNK. Who ya got?

I’m dancing along ~ fantastic! funkadelic! Wow! That bass guitar is the bomb 💥 💥
Viva Sly and the stoned family.... Magazine , the English dudes, great band, brought me here amigos 😎🎼
I'm just shaken my head this band was tight and talented. They don't do it like this anymore.
One of the greatest funk bands of all time !!! The complete package !!! Style, funky,Soul and raw talent !!!

They were real alright, my son. i saw Sly and the Family Stone for my 18th birthday in 1970 and danced all night long!
I’m 45 and right there with you. This music makes sob and gives me goosebumps. Quite literally takes me higher. 👊🏻❤️👊🏻
If you were there that night, you didn't need anything else to get 'higher' than the music.
That Sly guy was ahead of his time back then. He made a much bigger imprint on the music landscape than one could ever imagine.
Those of us lucky enough to live through it can certainly imagine it! The most brilliant live act going at the time...
what. a. show. thankufaputtinonashow!!
So blessed we r❤
I LOVE THEM🎉 TINA❤ FROM CHICAGO 💕💕💕
It's a Family Affair 💯
Hey music lover! ❤
I never idolize anyone, Sly is my idol !
THIS IS FUNKALICIOUS!
very funky indeed
Greatest sho i ever saw..Sylvester Stewart.; Frost Ampitheater..Stanford University..
Yay! I was there too! I remember Sly said “This is a great place. The people suck, but the place is great”.
It is so sad what happened to Sly Stone. So talented. 😢❤
You mean like dozens of other so very talented musicians of the late 60s and early 70s?
Sad yes but I heard he still has songs in him yet. Cannot kill God given talent.🎉❤
You can see the influence on bands like Prince and the Revolution, the Time several years later.
Almost Woodstock, just as Stoned.
Well Sly dont look stoned here , ive got other shows were he is stoned for sure.
I'm SURE THEY STARTED FUNK
That would be James Brown

When did Larry Graham join Sly's band? Someone else is playing bass here.
The bassist is Rusty Allen!
Larry Graham started from the beginning with Sly. On the Bass here is Rusty Allen, he came in after Larry left. Peace and Blessings to you 💜🙏🏾💜
Rusty Allen was after Larry Graham.
George Clinton Parliament
Last time I heard, Sly is living in a caravan, destitute and a bum...

No New Hits for Sly an the Family after the Year 1971
Agreed for the most part, but they did bring out If You Want Me To Stay on Fresh in 1973 which was top 20
