A lot of his late experimental works that are being called "noise" are simply avant garde, not noise at all. This here is noise, and I now have a new favorite Elliot Smith track- this is phenomenal. I wish he had lived longer to create more like this!
Harsh noise was peak in the 2000s, makes me wonder if Elliott was a fan of Wolf Eyes, or other bands like that. I woulda loved to hear him blending the super depressing psychedelic stuff he was working on before he passed with this kinda stuff.
