Want one! Am a cat person and so is my wife, we are in our early 60.s and we have done our share of raising rescues, we would like to find a kitten our 2 one for me and one for the wife to love that can give us love back. We have been loved before and it was wonderful, but I must say it seems like the ones we have rescued always had underlying health issues and did not live very long. Vets and more vets it was hard to take, I know you have to have your sick Cats cared for but we had one with water on the brain and it darn near killed us both when we lost him. I do not know how people with sick children make it , I just dont? God Bless them, .
We bought one from a breeder back in 1990 in Carmel, Ca. His Grandfather was Grand Champion of the State of California. Worth every many pennies. He would stand on his hind legs and look out onto our Kitchen counter. He would climb up on our bed and snuggle up on my chest purring and vibrating . While scratching and petting him he would reach up and oh so gently bite and hold my chin for about 15 seconds never hurting. He never did that for my wife. He would follow us on our walks in the mountains of Santa Cruz but would stop and meow then run home after about 100yards from our house. I really miss my CJ. His name from the white C and J on his grey side. He was my cat. We had 5 at once (plus 2 Beagles) and everyone (husband, wife, 3 kids) had one to call their own.
@@369zx CJ was "My" second cat.The first was one we called FU. Short for FU MAN CHU. His whiskers had so much droop that when he yawned , they would touch under his chin. We think he was a Main Coon mix. Overly large, fluffy grey and white long fur, Huge full tail, temperament M.C. perfect. He would lie in the cut grass, like he was invisible (not even close), wiggle his butt as we drew near. Pupils turning black.A quick pounce and wrapping his arms around your calf with NO claws. Release, nun away, turn and try to hide, wiggling his butt for a second attack. I Lost him during the Loma Prieta Earthquake. I can't chose a favorite. Both had my heart.
Got my MC as a stray that needed adopting. When I initially stopped to see him he was tearing up a newspaper on the floor and absolutely loving it. I picked him up and smelled him, and he smelled me and I was absolutely smitten ,and it just got better. He could do things physically that I had to see to believe . I’d call his name when I awoke and he would run and jump into bed with me and purr like crazy. I’m 68 years old and I’ve had cats and dogs and have loved everyone of them but Dougie the Maine Coon had and will always have a special place in my heart. Really not comparable.
I'm picking mine up at the end of the month. I'm sooo excited!!! They are expensive and it's a long wait to get one because of the demand. Be sure to get yours from a respectable breeder. Luckily I found one in the next state over.
What a lovely cat. I have half Maine Coon half bengal the best of both. They really talkative and so friendly they can't live without their owner. And yes they are so intelligent....I love them xxx
All I can say is go for it! They are amazing cats! And don't misinterpret them playfully biting you as aggression, as they could really inflict some damage if they wanted to. No, if they nibble, it is a sure sign they want to play!
5 months ago a stray female Maine coon adopted us, and hasn't left our yard since. Having a hell of a time getting her to coexist with our two indoor cats, has no issues with our 105lb yellow lab but it's go time when she is around the other cats.
I unintentionally adopted one. I fostered a litter of kittens and the ling hairedbone took a liking to my cat so I adopted him he look just like a pure bred Maine Coon, plays fetch and everything! Best part is he was rescue.
I have a pure breed Maine Coon. He is about 9.5 months old and he's got an attitude. He gets aggressive at times even, biting me. He does however follow me everywhere, walks with a harness, can do several tricks, plays fetch, chirps/trills/and talks a lot! He is Definitely a unique cat, but I definitely wouldn't call him a gentle giant...by the way he is 12 pounds already. He is lovable...when He's tired or wants a treat 😻
Just rescued a female maine coon from a bad situation omg she is so awesome and she has marbling and a big heart in the middle on each side but she's only 8 pounds at 3 yrs old. I literally got her today poor baby we're gonna eat alllll year long fatten this lady up a bit after being starved
We’ve adopted a mutt Maine coon. Her mother was a calico but CoCo has all the Maine coon traits with her trills and water play. She follows me around with her big brother and sister, both pittie mixes and a total of 200 pounds. I think she thinks she’s as big as them. She’s purrfect and I’m so in love with her. No need to spend big bucks when there are so many waiting for furever homes.
If I had a house with a yard I'd adopt one. I love these cats. Unfortunately I live in a flat...and I am afraid it would be too small for such a big cat
I have a very large yard and I have an almost 2-year-old Maine Coon He has a vest and a leash to go walking he’s better at it than he used to be I thought teaching him when he was a kitten would be helpful but he didn’t understand then, he’s much better now. And unless you live in like 300 or 400 ft.² of apartment he’s going to be fine, they are large cats but it’s not like having a German Shepherd or a husky in your apartment, they have wonderful personalities
I got my Gus cat, Maine Coon of course, at; would you believe, the Human Society in my county. He is about 20 pounds now. I only paid 100 dollars for two cats. Him and a tiger orange cat, Mr. Rusty. They are good friends and good buddies and sleep in my bed at night.
My girl sissy is always by my side or in my chair waiting for me if I’m gone they pick one person in the house to bond with to bad she was originally for my wife
I love Maine Coons, but your very first fact has flawed logic. If the Maine Coon is the oldest native cat to America, how could it possibly be a mix between long-haired cats from Europe breeding with native short haired cats? That makes no sense.

They're great cats. I taught mine to retrieve my neighbor's dogs. Now I have dogs, too. Sweet deal.
