Jared. Thank you! So I have a Gen 2 version if this camera. At 4k the video is usable, but nit awesome. How would this camera compare at 4k? Or 5.7k? Or is the 8k pretty useless?
Jared, thanks for all the videos, advice, and self-deprecating humor! I have an X3. It can only record video in 29-minute chunks, then it pauses to save the file, and then it records another 29 minutes. Do you know if the X4 also has this limit? I wanted to be able to set one up in a corner for B-roll, say at a wedding, and be sure I wouldn't miss the vows. Thanks.
Thank you for the video! Great quality and good content. I have the Insta360 One X2 at the moment. I like it's video capabilities and versatility but for photography I found it a bit weak (8.3 MP pictures after reframing). I felt sometimes that I could imagine a bit more details especially when the lighting was not ideal, like indoors. Does anyone know if this aspect improved?
Another great video. Side Note for Jared: It might be the X4 fov but on the bike shots your leg doesn't look like it's extending enough at the bottom of the pedal stroke, try a higher saddle height next ride. I used to get bad knee pain and went for a full bike fit and saddle too low was my main issue.
Did they just put it flat out on the hot shoe for the sports clips? Or was it raised a bit off the top? I have an X3 but I always felt like I’d be too close to the camera for good BTS if it was just mounted directly on the hot shoe
Great video Showcasing the capabilities of the camera. I just purchased the X4 and I am struggling to navigate the settings to get the most out of the camera. Do you have a how to video coming, as with your camera reviews? If not would you consider doing a how to for a sample of situations? For example, how to set up the camera to get the best video while biking or hiking or walking in selfie mode. Thanks, love your videos and you are a wealth of knowledge to the camera community.
Hi, I mainly take 360 photos to view in the Meta Guest3. The X3 resolution was not enough to enjoy it. Is the X4 better for this purpose? Did you test it ? Thanks
This is intriguing, the single file is a big deal now. I sold my Insta360 X3 because of the two file for each. More work in post than I was willing to deal with. I now have a Pocket 3, Action 4 and my Sony system, don't have the hands or time to use all of them when I'm out. So debating which to stay with to compliment my mirrorless setup.
Jared, dude, raise the seat a bit on your bike, at least an inch or two, hard to tell from the video, but your legs should be more extended when at the bottom of your pedal stroke.
Great video jared ! From the x3 the x4 gives more battery life , quick release from support or clamps , finally ONE SINGLE FILE for edit and also is the quick release protection are awsome !!!!!!
It seems to still have the same sensor resolution as the X3 though, as stills still have the same 72MP resolution. So instead of changing the sensor, they gave the camera more processing power to handle more video resolution and a higher frame rate.
Received my X4 yesterday. Brand new out of the box it was faulty, when charging in camera it was smouldering. It was also showing "low battery". Also froze and wouldn't allow firmware update via app or card. Have returned to camera store and awaiting an update from them. I see others are also having battery problems although mostly with the fast charger.
Anyone know how he was attaching the 360 to the camera on field? I'm assuming he has a cage on his camera but which adaptor would work? or can i screw the 360 straight into the cage?
The higher resolution and bigger battery are great. However, the problem with overheating limits recording time. Everyone needs to be aware of overheating before purchasing the X4. I love 360 photography, but need to record without overheating.
Been shooting 360 since the og 360 one x... people on the street mistake the 360 for a flash or some type of attachment like a trigger... i love it though.
I find it very suspect that none of the major influencers are comparing the X4 to the 1-inch. I do not think Insta360 wants that comparison to happen. This camera seems to be marketed using the 8K resolution it has and not the fact that it's the exact same sensor in the X3. I bought the X4 and have the 1-inch and I can say without a doubt that I am keeping my 1-inch and returning the X4. The 1-inch is so much better. If any of you are semi knowledgable about cameras, you know the most import aspect of a camera is its image sensor capability. Light gathering is everything. I will wait for the 8k 1-inch to come out. That will add even more detail to the 1-inch and trust me, it's not missing a ton. The X4 is only necessary if you need a waterproof camera without using additional accessories or want something a bit lighter, but if you own the 1-inch, I say save your money.
This isn't a comparison video, i've said a million times the 1 inch is better in low light situations. It's what I use because I want the larger sensor. It's also more expensive. This was a product showcase of the X4. It also shows the other cameras I do use from insta.
@@froknowsphoto I hear what you are saying Jared. I just wish the comparison would happen so 1-inch owners don't get sucked into buying this unless they need to. If i want to mount a 360 cam on my drone or on the end of a long monopod, it makes total sense to get the x4 but it's definitely a step back in image quality as it should be since it is cheaper than the 1-inch. I didn't buy an x3 because of the 1-inch being rumored back then and don't spend a ton of time filming water activities. So, I will wait for an 8k 1-inch which we all know is coming. My point is if you own a 1-inch because you didn't want an x3, then don't waste your money and just be patient for a new 1-inch. Also, people need to edit their videos in premiere and not the insta360 studio app. Major compression/qualtiy issues with prores and h265 in their own software, which is sad. Reply

This and all of these line of Insta360s are NOT ACTION Cams - UNLESS - you are sponsored by Insta360 and can get FREE replacements when your camera hits the pavement/snow/dirt/frozen grass/litereally ANYTHING - and it scratches either or both lenses. The guards help a little - but trust me from owning one - and having to PAY over $300 to get it fixed three different times - along with a 8 week turnaround each time - these are NOT ACTION CAMERAS - again - unless you have an unlimited budget - you WILL scratch the lens and it will show in every shot after that and the previous model *(the X2) cost $99 for a lens replacement - and that is AFTER going through an 8 week turnaround - go watch potato jets video - he is actually HONEST about this - these are NOT ACTION CAMS.

Once the guy I would also go to for his nikon vs canon reviews and who was honest has turned into bought and paid for by insta. This things artifacts, color shifting etc.. are AWFUL. The low light performance is trash. It's a repurposed X3.. And of course, youtubers are pushing this because insta can't do it on their own with quality. The 1rs is bad. That is the flag ship. This is half the sensor and well, you guessed it folks. Never thought I would see my favorite youtubers sell out.
Thanks for your years of support, sorry to see you chose to leave now and toss around a term like "sell out". How much have I charged you for my RUclips content in the last 14 years.....
Lol. You're not going to get full frame mirrorless results out of an action camera whether it's 360 or not. These cameras are really good for what they're for. Also Jared puts out this content for free and so what if he does a sponsored video every now and then, he needs to eat too. He is still honest with what he says, and understands most people getting this or an action camera are not going to compare it to a 50,000 red Cam.
It's currently the best 360 cam out for the money. the point isnt to get stellar image quality and its gone a long way regarding that in just a few years. the reframing abilities/capturing more memories and not worrying about shots is the big seller while still bring presentable enough for social media, not to create documentaries/films.
I can see the dual 1" on the table there. How do they compare? How was low light shooting compared to the 1"?
Thats great they've added those safety guards, I broke one of my lenses on the first day of buying the previous generation 🙃
Jared. Thank you! So I have a Gen 2 version if this camera. At 4k the video is usable, but nit awesome. How would this camera compare at 4k? Or 5.7k? Or is the 8k pretty useless?
One review I read said 4k renders out to a measly 1080p with the previous version and 8k renders out at 2.7k.

NOOOOOOOO, my seat is in the proper place for my body. I do not have any knee pain, if I raise it any more it hyper exgtends my knee.
Fair point. I think you should get a hand pedalled recumbent bike anyway, big guns 💪🏻 going to waste on a normal bike.
