We had a box of 35 Remington from my dad's buddy we were annoyed we could never use. Haven't taken anything with my 30-30 but that caliber and also 35 Remington are revered deer cartridges especially up north in thick brush

How stupid are the ammo companies to make so much of these cartridges when people with magnums have no ammo.
@@Lure-Benson I saw a video about two years ago on youtube talking about the ammo shortage. One of the guys was a gun store owner and the other one worked in the distribution end of guns and ammo. The guy in distribution related that ammo makers used the ammo shortage to get rid of their warehouse's stacked with older and more obscure cartridges. He stated that if a gun store owner wanted, say a couple cases of 9mm, they would only supply it to them if they also bought a pallet of some of the more obscure cartridges like 25-35, 35 Remington, 280 Remington, etc.

Personally, here in BC, I like the late season for hunting moose... fewer hunters...colder weather...moose are calmer...starting to bunch up for winter... one bunch 23 moose... AMAZING to see
Arguably the best 100yd cartridge ever made. The problem is, modern hunters don't want to put in the work to get close. And the 30-30 is not a 500 yd cartridge. Love the choice of rifle. What a treasure.
I never thought the 30-30 as a moose cartridge. This is definitely interesting. The 30-30 is definitely looked down upon now, because of all these new cartridges that come out. It’s nice to know that the 30-30, can still be classified as an “everything gun” great shot!
An old timer in Grade Prairie, Alberta once said, "I shot moose with a .30-30 for over 50 years before someone told me it wasn't big enough"! Shot placement is much more important than cartridge size!!
It great seeing the 30-30 showing why its still a popular caliber over 100 years after it came out. What ammo do you use on moose? I am Southern boy and my 30-30 has only been used for deer, hog, and black bear.
Typically, 170 grain bullets are used in .30-30 for everything we hunt here in southern B.C. If I was going after moose or elk, I would choose 160 gr. Nosler Partitions.
People who dog on the 30-30 seem to forget that at one time it was the pinnacle of modern performance. The game animals haven't upgraded their armor, our minds have tricked us into thinking otherwise though.
Great shot I love the old 30 30. I have yet to draw a moose tag in the state I live in but some year I will. I have been on 2 moose hunts and man are they amazing animals.
I do believe the rifle is a Remington 760 Game Master. I have a 7600 in .308 Win and would love to have one in .35 Remington. They made them in the past in .35 Rem, producing very few in that caliber. I appreciate your true hunting, close up and personal, as oppsed to making shots with a higher powered rifle from 300 yards or even further.

People! A .30-30 is a rifle cartridge and NOT a style! The.30-30 is the oldest smokeless rifle cartridge and it is still rather accurate and effective as a north American hunting cartridge.

Cow elk became too easy with a 3006 so I now hunt with a 303 savage almost identical to the 3030.by the way the younger bulls are better eating and you don't have to carryout so much antler.thats my reason for hunting cow elk

Nice moose hunting video but, please, a little less volume on the music when you are speaking. For some people, myself included, with somewhat less than perfect hearing, the music makes it very hard to understand the dialog.

The words any good moose guide should say all the time, "shoot him again". I watched a client put 4 Barnes Triple Shocks from a 30/378 into a small bull before it lay down. Guns do not kill, bullets kill.
That appears to be air exiting, I'm sure there's some blood spray too but it would be really fine mist. The cloud you see is no different than exhaling in cold air it was just coming out the wrong hole lol. You can see it exiting both sides if you zoom in and slow it down.
Great shot Trisha! I've heard even though the Moose is a big animal, it goes down pretty easy, not much of a fight like an elk. I just bought a Henry .30-30, but looking to use it on feral hogs.

@@HOTRhuntinontherock both moose were double lung shot. The steam could be seen coming from the holes. Keeping the distance to target within optimal range is what makes the 30-30 a great round. Those moose would have died no quicker using a super magnum, but the shooter might not do as good a job knowing the gun was going to punish them. That is not a factor with the trusty 30-30. I was along on a moose hunt where my friend shot a bull with a 338RUM. The shot took out both lungs. If it hadn't gone into cover after the first shot my friend would have shot it until it went down.

Learn to hunt, get close and rounds like the .30-30 will put meat on the table every time. Its just as effective now as it was 100 years ago. I've seen where a moose took two rounds of 30-06 and stood there spraying blood out both sides but was acting like the guy missed for 20 seconds before keeling over.
Back when... (you've heard that before, right?)... Back when I was young, you may be surprised with the ammo that was used, and the game that was harvested with that cartridge. The fixation to find broader, hotter, rounds wasn't quite as keen. The criticism of those who used this ammo wasn't quite as punishing. Hunters basically knew that these rounds had worked for decades and they weren't going to stop harvesting animals simply because some guy's neighbor went out and bought a bigger gun. What I find just a bit amusing is when so many guys will spend good money to buy a new gun that weighs a few ounces less, that will shoot a bullet that is a few thousandths wider and a few feet per second faster... when we have one on the rack that's been doing just fine. But I get it. Bullet tinkerers have to tinker. Gun makers have to make guns. And hunters have to buy new guns. I'm right there with ya.

30-30 caliber model 170s have a reputation for jamming , the 35 does not. Has to do with the rimmed cartridge and the shell stop.

With the .300 Win Mag it doesnt take 4 rounds andthe moose doesn't wobble around on its feet gasping for air for several minutes.

It took forever for the 30/30 to put the moose down. Not very effective if you ask me.
I've seen where a moose took two rounds of 30-06 and stood there spraying blood out both sides but was acting like the guy missed for 20 seconds before keeling over.
Excellent patience not taking that quartering shot.

Back when... (you've heard that before, right?)... Back when I was young, you may be surprised with the ammo that was used, and the game that was harvested with that cartridge. The fixation to find broader, hotter, rounds wasn't quite as keen. The criticism of those who used this ammo wasn't quite as punishing. Hunters basically knew that these rounds had worked for decades and they weren't going to stop harvesting animals simply because some guy's neighbor went out and bought a bigger gun. What I find just a bit amusing is when so many guys will spend good money to buy a new gun that weighs a few ounces less, that will shoot a bullet that is a few thousandths wider and a few feet per second faster... when we have one on the rack that's been doing just fine. But I get it. Bullet tinkerers have to tinker. Gun makers have to make guns. And hunters have to buy new guns. I'm right there with ya.

Using a 30 30 makes a person have to actually hunt the game they are after you have to get close and that a hunter

terrible shot im 19 and have 34 years of hunting under my belt i would have took a perfect heart shot and it wouldnt take a single step bucko
