He took after all the time to explain EVERYTHING to Massena! From my point of view Rudolf takes a good part of guild on what was happening next and for that I cannot help, but just dislike him ...

This game officially made Mycen one of my favorite "old soldier" types. If not for his actions, Alm and Celica would never have lived long enough to free Valentia from the gods' madness.
No matter how many times I watch the emotional parts of game, I get chills from the voice acting for Alm. His pain feels so raw, so real in these moments. His VA is so damn amazing at voice acting Alm. "Oh gods... WHAT HAVE I DONE?" and "And what of my peace?" are still as impactful as when I first heard them, and those lines stick with me as truly fantastic voice acting to go by.
I think this story has been great for its time, back when garden first came out I’m sure this entire idea for the story came as a huge shock for everyone, and although I’m not sure, the original doesn’t really hint you towards this turn of events which makes it more dramatic which I game was fun with a great story
Two year old comment so not sure if it matters anymore... the original gaiden had Desaix refer to Alm as "Rudolf's pup" when he is killed, so there are references, albeit kinda obscure and small
When I saw that Alm was rudolfs son I started crying from shock and then I broke down because my dude killed his dad and I started crying harder cause I thought about my dad and then I CRIED EVEN HARDER because I heard Alms sorrow and yeah :’)
Lori Taylor And Fates', which had some terrible casting choices like Elizabeth Daily as Hinoka and Selkie, Marisha Ray giving Effie a caveman voice, Amber Hood sounding like the mice being smashed with a hammer by Terry Jones in Monty Python as Nyx, and Laura Faye Smith as Male Kana, who did not match Nobunaga Shimazaki's original voice, and sounded grating and obnoxious (and don't get me started on how Heroes wasted an opportunity to fix the voice and made it equally worse with Sandy Fox, who, like, Laura, had no experience playing kid boys). I just hope Three House's dub is better than Fates or the Radiance Games (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn), considering it's being done by Cup of Tea Productions, who also dubbed both Echoes and Awakening.

That's mainly because they got the guys at Cup of Tea Productions to do the voice work, and unlike the rookies who did the voice for the Tellius games, the Cup of Tea guys are pretty much veterans when it comes to anime and video games.
I just realized, are you playing on Normal mode? Because I have played on Hard and Rudolf's position was different than yours. I guess in this game the difficult setting also changes the bosses positions sometimes

Gotta feel sorry for what Alm just did. Without realizing it until it was too late, he ended up killing his own father. Though, it did make for a good plot twist of Alm actually being the enemy nation's true crown prince and heir to the Rigelian Throne. That certainly threw me for a loop. Wonder what would have happened if Fernand showed up after the battle of Rigel, and learned that the boy Clive put in charge of the Deliverance was no mere peasant, but Rigel's crown prince. All in all, it's quite a sense of irony. I am a little confused as to why Rudolf chose to start the war and have Alm take his life. Couldn't he just, I don't know, surrender when the tides we're getting rough in the middle of the fight, see if Alm has what it takes to destroy Duma, and stop the fight there? Why take it as far to make himself hated by all, imprison Mila and start a drought in Zofia, and end it with having Alm kill his own flesh and blood? It just seems a little too extreme if you ask me. Also, Berkut goes completely loco even after learning that Alm was the true heir to Rigel and not him. Even now that Berkut learned that Alm was the Emperor's son, as well as his cousin, Berkut still despised Alm because his wanted to prove that he was still better than Alm in every way. Truly, a power-hungry maniac who drove himself into madness.

I know he is the antagonist of the game, but he was a patron god of Valentia - you would think even those in Zofia would still revere him or understand that his mind is ailing. If anything, the Duma Faithful is more to blame all things considered. I don't know, it just seems odd to me the characters' (mostly Alm's) reactions after learning that Duma's basically lost his mind.
I always found this whole plan of rudolf’s very strange and overthought. But after playing through the game again, it actually makes a lot more sense even if it’s still a little strange. You realize rudolf did indeed have a lot of love for Alm. Alm was born and rudolf was freaking out because Alm had the mark and the duma faithful would get to him if he was anywhere in Rigel. Rudolf had 3 goals, nurture Alm into a hero, get both rigelians and zofians to start working towards a world without gods, get rid of duma and mila himself if possible. Rudolf wanted to help Alm become the hero the world needed. So he had mycen take him to zofia. The problem was, zofia was hedonistic and (even if mycen was brutal raising Alm), if Alm grew up with that kind of mindset, he would never become the hero the world despaired for. So rudolf decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, he attacked Mila so not only she would be out of the way, but also zofians could start actually working towards the future. Here is where the problem started, mila sealed falchion so not only could rudolf not attack duma, but Alm was fucked as well when it came time for him to do his thing, so he moved the body to Duma tower to guarantee that the sword would be in Alm’s possession. Rudolf then decided to become the “bad guy” of the world, again to give Alm another reason to become stronger and defeat him, this plan is two fold because Alm is the rightful heir to the throne but no rigelian would accept Alm as their leader unless he conquered the nation himself, hence why he let Alm kill him so he would not only have the support of the Zofians, but also the rigelians because that’s the only way known to rigelians. So in hindsight, it seems very silly, but if we give rudolf a lot of credit, it worked.
Hearing that conversation between Alm and Rudolf reminds me of the conversation between Hyde and Iron Tager in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle - mainly because they each have the same voice actors (Kyle McCarley for both Alm and Hyde, and Jamieson Price for both Rudolf and Iron Tager). But for the most serious note... I hope the guys working on Three Houses will take notes from this game on how to do a deep villain and compelling story (lords knows both Awakening and Fates lacked them).
That and also do a good localization and dub. While Awakening may have had some problems, the voice casting was still good, even if the localization wasn't as good as Echoes', so at best, the localization in Awakening is a small nitpick. Fates, on the other hand, had several questionable VA choices in the dub that made the localization worse, EG Daily as Hinoka and Selkie, Marisha Ray's Rocky voice for Effie, and Laura Faye Smith as Male Kana being the worst offenders. Heck other parts of the localization showed they just didn't care, such as Beruka and Saizo's "..." C-support, instead of bothering to translate it.
