We all slow a bit with age. This is probably around 82 which was the first time I saw Oingo Boingo live. I've seen them many many times - their energy back in this era was epic.I got to meet the band in 83, I was fortunate to attend a private concert of about 200 hundred absolutely crazy fans - we also got advance listening and advance copies of Good for Your Soul. That was a great summer ;)
I keep coming back to this video for some reason, it's just so adorable...Also, Danny looks even more nervous than usual in this little interview; methinks because Merv Griffin looks to be a bit of a "close talker"....look again at this video folks :)
Boingo at their best! And great interview at the end, how enthusiastic was Danny about the band then. Cool to hear them talk about the record as a hit, the band were loved just not on a global scale. These days nobody seems to care unless something gets a million views. Would love to have been at one of their early gigs!
Wow this has been up here since 2008 and still under 5k views. Saw Oingo Boingo play so many times back int he day, what a great live band - phenomenal. We're going to hear Grey Matter? Yeah! Oh good. :(((((
It looks 1982, right when the Nothing To Fear Album came out. And yes, that is Kerry Hatch on the bass. I always liked him. I'm kind of upset he left. I wonder what Oingo Boingo would have been like if he would have stayed with the band.
I'm doing well today, thanks for asking. Oddly enough, I got here from a link in a reply to a comment on "The most mysterious song on the internet" which I found because the link was posted in the comments on a piece of fan art from Animal Crossing that I saw while browsing the Nintendo Switch subreddit, which I was on because I was looking for tips on how to play Smash Brothers Ultimate. Thanks, and I wish you a great day as well.
@RiaElfietwo So true! Personally I would've been turned off if he turned out to be a druggie or alcholic, because him not being that way is yet one more thing that I myself can relate to with him, b/c people that know me think that I'm quite wacky and "off-kilter" if you will, and I don't drink and have never had drugs. Reassures for me that some of the best people are at least little bit nuts :D
Fuck RUclips I'll invent a time machine just to go back and stalk the band through its time, first I'll go further back and train with masters in instruments, then to the future and get a brain mod that allows me to play better, then take my place in the band iself and be in perpetual plesure!!!! Nobody spanks sluggo
Actually no because he's never done drugs. I don't know why people want people to do drugs so badly why can't you understand that just because a person has a lot of energy doesn't automatically mean they do drugs it can mean there are normal person that doesn't need drugs. I think it's sad that you have such a miserable life that you think the only way somebody can love life is if they're doing drugs. Repass interviews and passed pieces on he and the band. He has never done drugs. For some reason miserable people like you like to pretend I do drugs as well because I know how to enjoy life and for some reason some people are so miserable they can't understand how somebody can enjoy life unless they're doing drugs. For me if I did drugs it would be just the opposite I would be destroying my life and there would not be any enjoyment in it.
@@victoria7tDanny has admitted to using drugs in high school but I don’t think he abused them to any serious degree as an adult. He’s got way too many teeth to have been a drug addict (I know this because he puts his dental X-rays on Instagram). I have certainly been that hyper without drugs before. All I have to do is get a good night’s sleep for a couple of nights and I’ll be too hyper to even go to bed. Caffeine and sugar helps too.
the more interviews and performances I watch the more convinced I become that Danny was sharing his body with a demon during those early boingo years
Y
i feel like its rare to see Danny with so much energy, smiling like he did- its so sweet!! all this talent!!

Caz Gerald That sounds absolutely amazing😩! Itd be a dream come true be able to see them live, but alas I was born too late. At least I have RUclips
@@cazgerald9471 uugghhhh, I'm so envious! I grew up with Boingo but in 82' I was only 11. No way was I going to be allowed to go to concerts.
I watch the 85 Ritz all the time but check him out at Coachella this year. It’s pretty wow.

Wasn't Merv Griffin gay? I heard he was.

Haha, Danny looks like he's on speed or something - totally insane - it must have been one hell of a great concert!
Love that he broke out the shark teeth for this lol
Absolutely my favorite band ever! Got to see them live in concert twice.

I have fond memories of being at this concert 🎶
Awww, he's so cute! I just adore him. And the guitarist, he is just awesome!

Love that grin!!!
I'm seriously melting.
oww Danny is sooo lovely!
I think he's just an insane guy! I love it!
This makes me soooooo happy! Everyone, including the band, look like they were having a fucking blast! Thanks so much for posting!
I was there in the balcony! Stray Cats and Josie Cotton also performed.
Loved ( and still love ) these guys! Great audience too! Nice video! Thanks!!
haven't seen that in ages, great stuff.
he looks so uncomfortable lmao
Merv looked like he really enjoyed talking with Danny at the time
Only Danny's vocals are live here. The rest of the audio is from the album version.
awwwww @ Danny's braces :)
Thank You
Check out Steve Bartek in shorts...don't think I have ever seen his legs...classic.
Thin, lean, and Maniacal. Look at those eyes, like he's got a demon caged in his chest!
"DANNY , THE NEW THE JOKER ELFMAN" ATEMPORALE SHOW AND SONGs..
From about 1:25 on, that dude in the front right is jamming.
it's the oingo boingo effect
Hey there. I know this is a bit cringe but how are you doing today? And how did you end up here? Anyway have a great day :)

Post part 2 please! Thanks!
I have to say...3:30...very nice view of Danny...*ahem*
asscheeks
You ruined the song
Yeah *sigh*
Merv's like WTF?
Man esto es muy bueno
If that's Kerry Hatch on bass, then this is about 1983 at the latest, right?
merv said "newest album", ntf was released in 1982
Boingo used family members in videos frequently. The bar scene in 'Stay' is chock full of family members - midgets excluded.
Was Flock of Seagulls playing at the same time?
yeah
