Please just stop thats not how autotomy works its not some "last ditch effort" or some bs its a natural thing that can be caused by many outside factors like bright lights or a loud noise like a plant or bottle falling. Autotomy(the process of detaching a lizards tail) is caused by a quick spasm down a central nerve causing a muscle group to quickly contract and rip off thats why the clean cut occurs unless the abuse is direct harm like aggressive grabbing or pulling prolonged stress dosent cause autotomy and by how comfortable the lizard is in the video to sit in his palm it means he dident do that. What likely happend is a loud noise or a quick light scared the little buddy and caused a quick jolt leading to autotomy please study the animal before commenting on ppl behaviour

Well she also has cats, and a dog, and one time when she was cleaning this gecko's tank, the dog snuck upstairs and found the gecko chilling in the tub. Apparently all it took was for them to make eye contact and she popped her tail off. My girlfriend was inconsolable, she felt so bad. She was a vet tech student at the time and knew how stressful it had to have been for her to drop her tail. She'd randomly cry about it when she saw the new tail growing in too. Firstly, as someone who both studies animal care and has owned a leopard Gecko for many years and done heaps upon heaps of research, the main and most likely cause of a tail drop is stress/fear. On the unlikely chance that this seemingly healthy leo has a disease related to tail drop, this person would be irresponsible for not taking the animal to the vet (tails take a while to grow back, so you couldn't argue that it's on medicine and being cured. And if it was incurable, they would most likely put the animal to sleep). If the tail had only dropped once (as most Leo's will only ever be able to do) you could pin it down to an unfortunate accident or lapse in judgement, but twice is far too much.
Secondly, the creator of the video is reading all of these comments. He has replied to non-negative comments and has completely avoided addressing the allegations - this is suspicious behaviour and points towards there being truth in these accusations as he has no excuse or reason for the drop.

As a vet assistant I’m very worried about the Gecko’s safety obviously it is being handled way too much and it’s causing stress so my advice to you sir is to stop handling your Geckos so much and give them a break. They are fragile and get scared easily being they have nowhere to run when you handle them this is the alternative so please give them space

I had one drop a tail on me last week at work. Was dealing with a health issue from the breeder and while getting treatment, bit me and dropped it. I’ve been working with these guys for 20years and have never had it happen before. Yes yes I know that it does happen but I guess we never expect it when it does. • @maddiesmenagerie8853

Leos really almost never drop their tails. I have a neurotic male who was not handled by his breeder for the first year of his life before he came to me. He has always been bitey but especially when I first got him and recently but I think he’s associated my scent with food because he’s extremely food motivated and the biting has seemed to stop ever since I started wearing latex gloves to handle him, lol. He has never dropped his tail even on the multiple occasions he’s death rolled me and I had to quite literally pry him off after he wouldn’t let go for a few minutes and I was gushing blood from the micro razors. I think he’s a haematomaniac, that’s my headcannon.
I’ve had this particular male longer than any other, and once when he was running around my desk in my bedroom as a kid he knocked over something onto his tail and bashed the tip. It was completely my fault for letting him run around in what I figured would be a safer area than the floors but I was unfortunately young and dumb and I regret it. He fully recovered and regrew the damaged segment.
But, even then with physical trauma to the tail tip, he didn’t drop his tail. I’ve taken in the most malnourished and neglected geckos and no tail dropping. It makes me think if maybe the propensity to drop their tails for little to no reason could maybe be genetic. I know neuroticism (or rather their timid-ness) can be genetic at least in some other animals so I wonder if something like that plays a key role. It’s definitely shocking to see a leo drop their tail though, I’ve never witnessed it myself after going through a good amount if craigslist rehab/rehomes.

@@alliemaekrispin you can dont handle them lizards will get stressed they aren't pets to be petted only to be looked at.
