Darling Hannah what a beautiful inspirational vlog. I’m 64 extremely active, however my life has changed drastically because I now take care of my husband in his 70’s who is suffering mid stages of memory issues. We had such a beautiful life, and he was such a loving man. That has all changed, as I’m sure you have heard often does with loved ones with memory issues. Watching yours and a couple of other inspirational younger women reminds me of myself in younger years. I have taken a lot of your healthy ideas, and taking care of yourself, and reminded myself to take time out for myself. I owned. A commercial real estate company as well as working as legal advocate for domestic violence with women in the courts here in the U.S. one of the things I used to lecture at women’s studies at universities, was women starting over. How to feel confident on your own again. One of the ideas I gave rather shy, or not confident women was this: When going out on your own have this idea of what you WANT TO BE, AND look like, and present yourself as a confident women. You may not be there YET, but keep that new you in your mind. When you walk in that room behave AS IFyou ARE NOW that confident women. It’s uncomfortable at first but it gets easier fairly quickly. my young students would come back and say…” I couldn’t believe how it worked for me”. Being on my own again, because I no longer have my husband at my side, has had to take me back to my own advice. You are a great role model for young women. I love your book titles. It seems we have almost identical taste in books. I appreciate your recommendations on books, beauty and cooking. Sending a warm snuggly hug from Southern California

I absolutely loved this video. I was always asked how I coped when my husband was travelling 7 months of the year and my answer was that I loved my own company! I love to cook, to read and to organise time with my own friends. When I was in my 20's I was a flight attendant and I loved my overnights in 5 star hotels. I finished my Bachelors Degree and decided I didn't want to read a non fiction book for a year so I only read fiction, applied to Qantas and started flying all over the place. It was incredibly liberating and made me feel comfortable being on my own. I was scared at first to sleep in hotel rooms alone and to go out for my dinner or lunch alone, but that was a short term problem and eventually I loved it! I have always loved shopping alone too, I feel like I can think more clearly and find things I need quickly. ❤ I think it is wonderful to be with people but to be alone and comfortable in your skin is an important skill to learn.

I just retired about a year and a half ago and everyone said I’d need hobbies to keep busy. I’m 70 and I love my time alone and my hobbies are like yours, reading, hiking, walking around, keeping my home and antique window shopping. I’ve been alone since 1990 and I’m much happier being that way. You don’t need other people to make you happy.

I really relate to what you said about hobbies. Like you, I was never sporty, musical or artistic, and often felt out of place at school. Now I've grown to love my hobbies like reading, walking and watching my favourite shows (with tea or wine depending on the time of day😂). They give me a sense of joy and calm. They reflect my introverted personality, and give me the alone time I need to recharge. Love your vlogs so much 🧡

I feel like doing things on your own should be celebrated more, I love doing things on my own and it took time to stop caring what people think, take yourself for dinner and take your book with you, book a weekend trip away, go to the cinema and have a huge popcorn all to yourself, go to a gym class you haven’t tried before but always wanted to, go for a long walk or a bike ride and take yourself for a beer or whatever it is you want to drink,
There is sometning so empowering about taking yourself on a date, whatever it is!❤❤

Hello Hannah, I have loved watching this video. It’s so nice to hear your book recommendations. I’ve read The Foundling based on your review and I’m now keen to try A Little Life.
I’m strongly recommending you The Sanatorium (set in Swiss alps, murder mystery but not scary), and also The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (Set in 16th Century France and beyond- it’s unbelievably good!) I honestly think you will love it. 🥰 📚 📖 The buzz is that it will be made into a film too, which is exciting.
I’m currently reading It Ends With Us, I’m a little late to the party with this read, but I’m absolutely loving it! 🥰
Have a terrific weekend, enjoy the Cotswolds and can’t wait for the next vlog. xx

Hi Hannah, found your vids couple weeks ago n I love them. Self-love n care is extremely important, being alone doing things that makes you feel good. Alone time is good for your soul. Can learn great deal about yourself and find true happiness from within ones self. You n Kenny make me smile, n long distance relationships aren't easy although it can make you bond stronger , (n keep the spark going). Roo is so adorable. Your healthy lifestyle is quite inspiring. Have incorporated more vegan foods into my daily life, (fruuts, vegs, legumes, nuts, grains, healthy oils). Feel better when I eat this way. Like your positive minset. Have a lovely week, enjoy your time@Cotswolds, it's quite beautiful. ❤💜🌻✨

Hannah - After watching your video this morning, I made your recipe for dinner. It was great, and even pleased my picky husband. :)
As for a book recommendation involving crime (but not suspenseful or scary), I recommend English author Tim Sullivan's DS Cross series. I don't like suspense, being frightened, or crime in general as entertainment, and yet I couldn't get enough of this smart series. It's about a brilliant police detective who is also autistic, and how he approaches life, his colleagues, family, and crime solving. His books are so, so good.
    Enjoy!

It’s kinda funny but also when ever I felt intimidated by someone or an event I’d remind myself of that! So snobby girls/women or speaking in front of crowds it helped me in life even now at age 54 and social media gets to me I say it to myself! I won’t lie there’s been times especially in high school & girls were snots I would picture them “falling over” whilst putting their pants on one leg at a time😂😂😂😂 I

Well done you for putting yourself out of your comfort zone - I spent many years working in sales and often dined alone in hotels, I used to enjoy playing the game of guessing which table they would sit the "solo female diner" on 🤣🤣, thankfully things have changed a lot since those days! But I enjoy my own company and like you say, you should look at that alone time as time to do the things you love, my partner is usually away a couple of nights a week, so I'm now enjoying cooking veggie dishes for myself and I'm going to give your butterbean dish a go - I loved the squeezy bottle you used to put oil onto your veggies for roasting - could you share where you got that from please? x

I truly don't understand why it's in this day and age still a topic of eating/being or going somewhere on your own? Why is it "normal/acceptable" that going somewhere in couples or with 2 is the norm? I do quite a lot on my own, dining out, travelling etc. If you're not confident on your own, it raises the question why you would be needing someone else to make you complete? It doesn't make sense. Maybe it's daunting, but if you don't try, life passes you by, not having had the experiences ❤

It seems like you do understand why some people find it hard to go alone. They are not as confident in themselves and are afraid of being seen. I am one of these people who have social anxiety, but as I get older I care less what people think. Taming that inner hard critic is key for people like us. It's different for various situations obviously, like going to the grocery store is easy to go alone. Going to a social function like brunch, you may feel that you need someone there as a buffer in conversation to limit awkwardness. Some people find it hard to open up and may put up walls which isolates them even in a crowded room. I heard someone say it's not the people there that make you feel lonely but your own perceived gaps in communication which make you feel incompetent and small.

The one book that I read last year that flew by was The Last Word by Taylor Adams. It has a thriller tone, short chapters that fly by. The only warning is that it features a woman who is house sitting and alone with her dog and reading book after book. She leaves a negative review and the author starts coming after her to try to get her to remove the review. The premise is great but living mostly alone may not be the best time to read it! Your recipe looked great btw. I want to try it as well.

Hi Hannah, loved the vlog. What was the first book you mentioned? I am curious what the book is that you previously read by the author. Love you and Roo💜

Great cosy video 😊 This could be a good time to take some classes to hone skills you'll use in the future. Not that you need it but cooking classes could be fun. Time to learn a new language or renovation/DIY skills for your new home, etc. You're doing so well!

I think "hobbies" is outdated. I think we should ask "what do you like to do to be creative"? That encompasses many more past times and actions.

Hi Hannah, I love your videos & your gentle nature. I’ve noticed that you do not have any artwork or decor on your walls. Was that a conscious decision or have you just not decided on anything yet?

Hannah, First of all, I love your videos. They are beautiful and you have a gentle spirit. Secondly, I appreciate that you miss Kenny and are filling your time with self care. But, and I mean this with no disrespect, there are millions of military spouses that dealing with this for years while they are separated from their loved one every day. And, many of them have children they are raising by themselves. They are trying to carry on knowing that their loved one is in daily danger. Kenny is playing football. I think it is important to keep things in perspective. I realize you are trying to help others and your heart is genuine. As a former military mom I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to share this thought. I pray for all soldiers daily.

I think if it is an event where its mostly going to be women you really shouldn't worry. I just rock up and talk to the nearest half friendly looking female and you are generally good to go after that. As women when we see another one of our kind alone at some event or another, I think we should just invite her to be with us. You can and I do often gather quite the eclectic group of friends that way.

Ooh if you liked The Silent Patient, I'd really recommend two other books by the same author called The Maidens and The Fury! Also The It Girl by Ruth Ware is another favourite of mine.

I love your videos, all the places you show us are a dream, you have very fine taste from my point of view, you are sick, you speak very hoarse, I hope not, just as I hope you don't adopt that North American fashion of speaking hoarse that sounds very common.
Please continue being as elegant as you have been until now, I love your videos
