Thanx muchly for sharing this little treasure! Don't worry if it's not in color. I grew up watching Sid and company on a. Philco black and white tv, and I love the nostalgia trip. Thanx muchly for giving us the full show. RIP, darling Sid and Imogene, and thanx so very much for the magic, music, and memories.
miggy272009 It is so sad that he died! I am so very sad, but you were very lucky to have known him! I hear he was a very nice man and we all know he was very funny.
As a kid, I remember watching this with my grandfather. It was a big deal to him to get to see his favorite comedians again. Dad and I went to his house and he had it on. We all loved it!!!
My undying gratitude to the member of the WML Facebook group for sharing a copy of this extremely rare Sid Caesar special with me. Without the generosity of folks like this, I'd have nothing to post!
Holy Smokes! That 'Married Life' sketch at 18:28 is "Married with Children 20 years before Al & Peggy Bundy! Imogene even wears Pegs outfit and hair.. and Sid even has Al's one liners! Mind Blown!
+DarkMsStress Well, it's really a parody of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"-- Elizabeth Taylor's hair, makeup and clothes were deliberately garish in that film.
I remember watching this. They couldn't call it Your Show of Shows because the title was owned by NBC, and the special was on CBS. It was. however, a faithful re-creation of a Your Show of Shows installment, particularly with the short musical at the end. Everyone wondered if there'd be more of these, but they never did another one.
AWESOME NOSTALGIA! 🤣😆😁 BRINGS BACK SOME GREAT MEMORIES! THANKS FOR POSTING/SHARING. THE CURRENT TV PROGRAMMING CONTENT, COMPARED TO THIS VIDEO, SUCKS!!👍
SO glad you have this - especially since my dad Sam Denoff, along with Bill Persky, were both part of the amazing writing team of this special and it won them an Emmy. Would love to talk with you and try to get that 2" color master digitally cleaned up and back on the air. How do I get in touch with you?
I watched this special as a youngster with my Mom, and I laughed my head off. But my Mom told me "If you think Sid Caesar is funny now, you should have seen him in the Fifties!".
At 36:00 we’re treated to a quick parody of “A Hard Day’s Night”, but good luck Googling any in-depth stories on the writing of one song from a one-off reunion special. An opera skit or even the renowned language double talk are among the things least likely to do much for me, but it’s been deeply rewarding to be binging on original sketches and interviews & tributes from back then & all the way up to the modern day.
I remember seeing this at the time it first aired and my Mom telling me how funny all these people "used to be." I knew Morris from THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW and Imogene from GRINDL and IT'S ABOUT TIME. THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW was my favorite sitcom as a kid but I don't recall recognizing Reiner. And Sid? This was most likely the first time I had ever seen Sid!
The recreation of "Gallipacci" is amazing. Inside musical jokes that are humorous and stunning all at once. Did the kinescope of the original survive to the present day?
Yes, it's here on RUclips. It has the most inspired adlib in live television history---check out what Caesar does when the makeup pencil breaks (the origin of what he does in this recreation).
I found the original. The original is pretty amazing in its musical inside jokes as well. One of the best uses of "One of those things" and "Yellow Rose of Texas" I have encountered.
Too bad it's not the color video tape. It's ironic that this upload is a black and white kinescope. It looks like an episode of "Your Show of Shows" from the early 1950s.
Just a slight correction: This appears to be a black and white copy of a taped show. At this time the networks weren't using the old kinescope process any more/tape had replaced it. If this is a kinescope, that would be weird.
I saw this program the night it aired and recorded the audio on reel-to-reel tape from WTOP-TV in Washington, D. C. When I get a chance, I'll check to see if it is still playable and whether it's any better than the audio on the VHS issue, which sounds a little thin. Synching it with the video would be a challenge; but, I've done it before. See this Nichols & May routine: ruclips.net/video/SfLaY-R9kaU/видео.html

I'm the caregiver of Sid Caesar for 9 yrs until his death I still miss him
miggy272009 can we chat about sid, i knew him too.

After 13 years, they had lost nothing as an ensemble. Sid commented that it was just like a long weekend hiatus. ---kjh
It's great to FINALLY be able to watch the Alan Brady Show! 😊
My undying gratitude to the member of the WML Facebook group for sharing a copy of this extremely rare Sid Caesar special with me. Without the generosity of folks like this, I'd have nothing to post!
A good hilariously totally nutty show, funny with lots of laughs, congrats on the awards they did win well earned ,enjoying the fun!!
Thanks for posting this. According to TV Guide, ABC originally aired it Apr. 5 (not Apr. 4), 1967.

True...But watch that bit back to back with a Married with Children clip. Sid even sounds like early Al Bundy... They were way ahead of their time.
+DarkMsStress That they certainly were, ahead of their time!
Well, WAoVW was written by Ed Albundy...
DarkMsStress I was thinking the exact same thing! And of course, who’s afraid of virginia wolff
This program won 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing in Variety and Outstanding Variety Special.
...and according to Sid Caesar, NO ONE was beating down their doors after it aired. What a shame.

All of them lived into their 90's except Howard Morris, who made it to 85. Comedy must indeed be the best medicine.

This show won nine Emmys. Nice comeback!
giles422 It's won 2 Emmy Awards not 9.

Comedic genius- - those who can improvise and create on the spot.
In the Married Life sketch, Carl Reiner's wife is played by Maggie Mancuso (Maggie Peterson) who played Charlene Darling on the Andy Griffith Show

It's funny to hear the voice-over say "These four haven't performed together for a long time" when the "long time" was twelve years!
great show
Shame they didn't have more specials or a weekly show... Wish it be was in color :)
"You're nothing but a rotton A-" DING DONG! "Was that the doorbell or the dirty word?"
51:05- "'THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES'......and "GREEN ACRES'......will return next week at their regularly scheduled times---- on most of these stations."
Well that answers my question of what network this was on. And probably on a Wednesday night!
3:15- "'THE SID CAESAR IMOGENE COCA CARL REINER HOWARD MORRIS SPECIAL'-- is brought to you by......the 1967 AMERICAN MOTORS!"
That’s Herschel Bernardi doing the v/o at the end for American Motors
OMG at 24:32 its peg bundy !! the original one !!
+John's Wacky World I can completely see the parallels, yes. :)
This is a take-off of Liz and Dick (the Burtons) in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolff?”
Ouch.. that 60s three man hair band sketch was oh so bad.. So bad I couldn’t turn my eyes away. Carl danced his ass off, Howard too.
I remember seeing this at the time it first aired and my Mom telling me how funny all these people "used to be." I knew Morris from THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW and Imogene from GRINDL and IT'S ABOUT TIME. Steven Thompson Mel Brooks once said, "On film you live, on kinescope you die" as a way of explaining why Sid Caesar is not better known today.
Carl Reiner was Rob Petrie's boss, Alan Brady
Life was much more interesting and inclusive back then. And Hollywood was enjoyable unlike todays hollyweird.
I had to look it up right away: Coca was originally from Philly, and Sid from Yonkers.

I haven't posted the original "Gallipacci" sketch myself yet, but it's been on RUclips for a long time:

This isn't a kinescope. By this time tape had long ago replaced that more primitive process.

The video is fuzzy, but I've never seen Imogene look better. Maybe it's because of the fuzziness.
To this day, it still annoys me...the front door wouldn't open out...just like on The Honeymooners...dumb, but it still annoys me!
