    Saw this tonight and really adored it!! Was aware of it as a fan of both Darren Criss and Michael Arden but do feel nervous about its longevity on Broadway. Hopefully the great word of mouth will get around. Definitely people around me at the theatre seemed to be enjoying it.
    This Belasco apartment fascinates me, you must get a vlog in there 😂

    I just got back from seeing it and I’m so glad I did! The whole thing felt so smart and it was so beautiful to watch the story be told. I normally really don’t like when shows over rely on screen elements for their set design, however this show really knew how to use it intentionally in ways that furthered the narrative. I haven’t seen a broadway show hit me quite the same as this. It definitely feels like the kind of show that will have a cult following in a few years. I really hope it gets to stay on broadway!!

    Unlike most of the other productions that opened on broadway recently, this is the single one Ive seen nothing but amazing reviews of from the start which is so great specially for a brand new musical! Ive seen quite a lot of people bringing it up as their must see recommendation of the season this past week and now im even more excited to see it!!

    I’ve known about Maybe Happy Ending for a little while because I follow Broadway news in general and because I’m a Darren Criss fan specifically. I follow a few fan accounts about him on Tumblr (my only real social media) and those accounts have been posting about the show nonstop and sharing all the promo and behind the scenes stuff I’d have missed from the other socials (I have Insta too but I don’t check it too often). I really hope the show stays open for a while because I definitely won’t be making it to NYC again until at least early-mid 2025, if that (I did a lot of traveling in 2024 so we’ll have to see what my budget looks like for 2025 😅). It sounds like such a lovely show, I hope it does well.

During the height of pandemic, at one point Seoul was the only place in the world where you can watch musical theater live (Phantom of the Opera tour) back in summer 2020. Wishing this show the best but at the back of my head I wish it had opened in the spring since in the recent past, shows like KPOP and Here Lies Love (both with majority cast of Asian descent) that opened in the summer/fall didn't do well.

  • @Ranger7Studios

    Korea has some of the most amazing theater. Most of which I wish would make it over here, but probably would flop. I find that people appreciate the more artistic shows in other countries. There seems to be more of emphasis on promoting new works in other countries, due to the cost factor. Investors seem to be more willing to take a risk on something unknown overseas, than in the states. I'm still hoping both Death Note and Your Lie In April make it over here. I know they are being done in London, so... Here's hoping.

    I keep up with what's coming to Broadway, so I've been intrigued by this one for some time. Going to second preview tonight for my birthday--I couldn't think of anything better than checking out a brand new show with such promise. Incidentally, I saw the phenomenal We Live in Cairo at NYTW last week and can't be more excited for the future of the musical. (Honestly Maybe Happy is the only new musical of the fall to really interest me, although I will see the others as well.) Also and alas, I have seen zero social media and very little advertising for the show.

      @@itskatharinequinn My friend and I both loved it. The music is charming, the acting (and singing) is superb, the storyline avoids cliche pitfalls, and the sets/projections are fantastic. It's a little bit slow-paced, so try to settle down to it, because lots of the most charming bits are in the small details. Highly recommended--better than any of the new musicals the last two seasons. (If it is a hit, Helen J. Shen is going to be a star.)
      I generally like most things so I am easy to please on a general level, but I am also very critical and will spot flaws like a bird dog finds geese. So for me to be wholly enthusiastic really means something (hence my We Live in Cairo recommendation). Aside from a couple of tiny things that really don't matter, the only problems with this show are getting to set to work without flaw, which I am sure will come--it was only the second preview.

    Ever since I heard about MHE, I was/am intrigued. I'm indifferent about Darren Criss/Michael Arden, but I understand they need a bit of star power to get it rolling. After all, KPOP the musical didn't fare well. Though Luna of f(x) is a big name in the kpop world, she's lost to Broadway.
    I'm looking forward to seeing the show in November. Thank you for the review.

    • @aptadpamu
      @aptadpamu Месяц назад

      Now that I've seen MHE, I have to eat my words. Darren Criss absolutely nailed the role of an earlier and less advanced model of Helperbot. Helen J. Shen was wonderful. Though the set design offers some line of sight issues for those on the extreme sides of the front orchestra, my hat is off to Micheal Arden and his team for making this complex show work. Like Life of Pi, I think the best seats for this musical are center mezzanine and side mezzanine nearest the aisles to appreciate full tech. I rate shows based on the following criteria: I wish I could unsee this show; I'm glad I saw this show, but don't need to see it again; I will recommend this to my friends; I highly recommend this and I'm going to have to see this show again (and again). MHE fits in this final category. Bravo to the cast and crew of MHE.
