  • This video demonstrates how to dummy code nominal variables in SPSS and use them in a multiple regression. The “Recode into Different Variables” function is use to code one variable with three levels into three variables with two levels each.

    Yes that was interesting, helped me to understand why nominal variables with more than 2 levels do not fit with a multiple with regression

    Dear Dr,
    I have question. How can we do regression when u have a combination of categorical independent variables and continuous independent variable? Is it possible to do simple linear regression or we can only apply all of them in multiple regression? How to key in all of them as it is in dummy variable?

    Hi thank you very much for this useful video. Is this the same method if I want to run Multiple linear regression for three different groups? I had done intervention study with three groups and confused how to run multiple linear regression to see different effects of each group.

Could you please advise if i want to study the impact of microfinance program duration on empowerment (empowerment is scale and program duration is ordinal), Can i follow the same procedure for proving that high program duration is associated with more empowerment?

    hi, i noticed that you did not change the three variables (individual, group and career) in the variable view after you recode them into different variables. does it make any difference?

    Is the procedure the same if we have a dichotomous predictive variable? Specifically, do we enter one or both dummy variables in the “independent (s)” window? Thanks, best regards.

    Thank you for this nice tutorial! I have one question. I want to conduct a multiple regression with a ration DV and several IV:
    1) a dichotomous variable (two-level nominal),
    2) a ratio variable (score),
    3) a four-level nominal variable recoded as dummy variables
    Moreover, I have other variables in my data sheet that I do not include in this regression analysis. So, if I do not include one of the level of my recoded "dummy" variable, how do I know that the other three levels will indeed be compared to the first level, and not to something else in my data sheet?

    How would you perform a multiple linear regression analysis with 1 categorical variable like you used and several other continuous variables? I really doubt if one would be able to create a predictive model when basically the most effective variable would be left out.

    what if you have multiple independent variables that had to be recoded at dummy variables? Do I put in all the created dummy variables for all the original variables?

    What about hierarchical regression and using ordinal variables? Would it basically be the same and then obviously clicking next for the second level? What happens when you get that error message about variables being removed and no regression is computed?

    Again, this helps me take a serious look at multiple regression vs. factorial MANCOVA, but I may use more than two levels of one of my two independent variables, clearly that is not acceptable with this design.

    I noticed that just subtracting unstandardized B value of group and career with both comparison to individual, would result to the same 6.967 coeficient when doing another regression test

      Yes, but then you'd use logistic regression, not linear
