They really thought it was still Vi all the way to the end 💀

My understanding of the smuggling scene is that Silco and his people were bribing a customs agent to illegally load an airship with Shimmer, then have it go up to the Hexgate and get teleported out of the city to sell to some other nation, but the Firelights showed up to interrupt it for their own reasons, costing Silco a lot of money and supply all at once
Which they succeeded at only because Jinx lost control when she saw that one girl and didn't stop her from setting the ship on fire

I see a lot of reactors get this wrong, to the point it's basically the creators' fault that people don't catch on, but Vi was NOT the pink haired girl on the ship. If you're paying close attention, the second shot of the girl after her mask comes off shows that her face is quite different from Vi's. It could've been more overt but the audience is meant to realize it's not her quite quickly. Jinx kills her once SHE realizes the girl isn't Vi. I've seen reactors go the entire episode continuing to believe that it was Vi, despite the fact they're told on two different occasions after the fact (once in Silco's office and once in Jinx's lair) that it was just some other girl with pink hair.

It's incredible how many people confuse this, despite it (as you point) being stated subsequently twice that it wasn't.
Despite that, the fact no-one even stops to think if Jinx would just off her sister like that (who is somehow smaller and doesn't even speak to her) is also strange.

To me it was easy to tell she wasn't the real Vi, even looking at how short the character was, the lack of strength and how "unrefined she looked (main characters usually have an incredible amount of drip) and then also being shot unceremoniously made me go "nah that ain't Vi" and like you pointed earlier it was also said 2 times. So I think RIOT and Fortiche knew it could be tricky for some people so they tried their best to make apparent it wasn't Vi. And in case it wasn't picked up they show Vi at the end of the episode so the audience isn't left still wondering if it was vi on then airship. It is what it is.

@@gustavgustav2670 On the other hand, if that many people are getting it wrong then I think it's partly on the creators for not making it more apparent in the moment. Maybe they could've given Eve (the actual character's name in canon) a line or two of dialogue without her mask on to drive home the point. But yea, the fact that they showed her real face in each subsequent shot and the fact that the Vi that Jinx sees is still the young version from before the time jump should be clear enough.

    • @gustavgustav2670

@benmoore8809 True, but they've gone to great lengths to not Marvel the dialogue. "Why are you calling me Vi when my name is Eve! Surely you are not that crazy to be mistaking me for her!" Etc.

@@gustavgustav2670 Lol, true that'd be ham-fisted and clunky as hell! I was thinking more like she would call for help from one of her Firelight comrades or something if only to show that her voice is also different from Vi's. But in any case I agree, one of the many great things about the show is they don't spoon-feed the audience and so much is revealed through subtext. I personally caught it on my first watch as soon as they showed her real face, but watching reactors not catch on gets so frustrating. Each new reaction I watch, when they get to this scene I think to myself "Alright, let's see if they pick up on the fact it's not actually Vi."

Vi has been in jail since episode 3 when Marcus took her because they needed to lock up someone... people confusing Vi to the girl with the mask is so weird to me. Jinx even says to Silco "one of those firefly wackos was a girl with pink hair" saying that she confused her for Vi

    • @benmoore8809

Be careful revealing things like the fact Vi's been in prison all this time, so as not to spoil the show for the reactors. Yes, we see she's in prison at the end of the episode but at this point in the story it's not been revealed for how long she's been there. That bit of information doesn't come out till later. This instance is probably ok since they actually watched the episode over a week ago and only just posted it to YT today, so it's safe to assume they're already further ahead in the series but still.

She was in jail, but not "because they needed to lock up someone". Marcus actually did the right thing this time, and saved Vi when he took her. Caitlyn specicically states that there are no records of Vi or her crimes (so she wasn't locked up for the explosion) If she had any records, Silco would know about her too, which we know he doesn't, this was the only way to keep her safe from Silco.

Also, one thing I will point out is that it's mentioned a couple times in this episode that Progress Day is when all of Piltover's inventors show off their best creations, with rich visitors coming from around the world to see them and buy the best ones. And Jayce specifically shows off something wildly impressive every year, which is why the audience is so disappointed by his speech
Something Jinx would be very aware of

I don't think MacGuffin is an appropriate term to use for hextech since it is actually important in itself and not just something characters chase after. As in, it alters the world around characters and changes power levels, while typical MacGuffin just *exists*.

We see the new status quo now with Silco in charge of the undercity, creating shimmer, and exporting it. Sevika is bribing a port inspector, so they can ship Shimmer using the Hexgates to sell elsewhere. The big guy that Caitlyn interviewed and that Vi beat up was the same dude that Vi stood against Vi on the catwalk in when they were rescuing Vander. Vi saw him in the lunch room and decided to get some payback. Although we are meant to think that whoever beat him up, wanted to keep him quiet. But that's onl for a few minutes until we see it's Vi who did it and whoo! What an ending! Arcane is the best at setting up and ending where you want to keep going!
Mel is very ambitious and is always playing a game... But she's awesome. Interesting thought on Mel working with Jinx or Silco. I don't want to spoil things but I think Jinx set up the fire as a distraction so she could sneak into the lab or hall and just raid the place like the crew did with Jayce's lab in the beginning. She didn't know what she'd find.

"purple scar faced girl" was introduced in ep 1, underpaying the little weasle man in Vander's bar. She also is part of the rabble of thugs in the warehouse in ep 3. Specifically, she jumps in front of Silco (weird eye guy) protecting him from the explosion. If you look close, she loses an arm in that explosion. 😯

The trader girl trying to shortchange Huck in episode 1 is not Sevika. That girl has yellow eyes and face markings. They're two different characters.

This conflates the unnamed swindler in ep. 1 with Sevika. Sevika first appears in episode 2, arguing that Vander's gone soft. She did jump in front of Silco in ep. 3. As of ep. 4 she's Silco's chief lieutenant.
