As a kid, this and Chase HQ had me believe that all turbocharged cars had a big red boost button on the gear lever. As an adult i'm disappointed they don't.
“Take a hike, pal!” That got a laugh out of me the first time I played not gonna lie. The original game is better for a number of reasons but I do like some aspects of this game.
I live in ATL and BELIEVE U ME we have deserts around. I lived in one of them for decades and moved to the city at age 9. The heat was insane, but beautiful landscapes surrounded me. My family and I used to ride horses naked across the desert and play hide and seek through the cactuses. XOXO
I remember playing this game I choose manual transmission because of the turns as for tune-ups when I reach Chicago, Illinois I choose the Hi-Grip Tires, when I reach Miami, Florida I choose the Special Turbo and the Oklahoma city, Oklahoma I keep the Hi-Power Engine to last. Furthermore, before I reach the checkpoint I use the Turbo boost to make sure the police car don't get in my way
Wow. Did SEGA ever make a dull looking game? The use of vibrant colors is fantastic. Also made Virtua Fighter 2 one of my favorites because of the colors used
Definitely best review I read so far. Totally agree, player car sprite size, scaling, placement, crappy speedometer, musics, gameplay etc... Way to go!
American adaptation of OutRun almost legendary as Out Run, when sports car was drove by man who loves woman is speeding at the American freeways/highways is gonna be death like a 'movie'.
That's my favorite supercar in the game, that F40, there's a non-playable car, that Corvette, I like that vette too, a back in the days of the arcades.
The design of the tracks with all its obstacles, backgrounds and mechanics looks refreshing for an "only" 80s racing game :-) Makes it quite challenging altogether. The coloring also feels very pleasant.
Always felt this looked far rougher than the original and car was always way too fat for road and the viewpoint was too low also, making it hard to see obstacles ahead, game just looked a mess to me :-(
Going to have a go at this on MAME - never played it in the arcades back in the day. However, may I correct you on something. You've stated in the description ....You're still driving across America... While this may be true of Turbo OutRun, it's not in the case of the original OutRun. Yu Suzuki went on a extended driving trip though western and central Europe to get his ideas for OutRun, some of it is American, most of it was Europe.

I like the way the mechanic comes up carrying the engine like it was a suitcase

Only ever seen the C64 of this. Impressive! The rock band at the end of each stage is a cool touch.
I live near Atlanta and I can say first hand it does not have a desert as far as I know.
Yeah from Freezing Capped mountains to a hot desert only a checkpoint away.

Loved this in the Arcades, back in the days!!!!

I remember how annoying it was when you went over a hill and basically couldn't see where you're going, so crashed into a car you couldn't see.
that ending music is everything nostalgia needs
Good to see the "ouch" from Space Harrier's getting recycled.

This game screams 80's.

My ultimate love game in my childhood
Why in many games such as this,Super Hang-On,and others use the Fantasy Zone as shop soundtrack?
In the days before Sonic, Opa-Opa (protagonist of Fantasy Zone) was one of Sega’s unspoken mascots alongside Alex Kidd

Hey it’s the Sega shop song!
The car upgrade music is the same tune as in Hot Rod!
It's the shop music for a lot of Sega games but it started in Fantasy Zone.
Back when video was fun

It was a mess, which is why it was never as well received as the original Out Run.........
you are definetly right about that
Arcade = Superb (only through emulation ha ha )
LOVE this game!!
Whoa, don't criticise the music like that, Rush A Difficulty is a fantastic composition and I like it far above anything in OutRun.
Rush a Difficulty is THE SHIT! Without question with OR favorite track.
Five people couldn't catch up.
At start in the checkpoint the girl loves ferrari guy makes porsche guy cry
Is it just me or is Outrun Turbo comfier than the original?
Turbo Outrun is 2FAST 2Furious arcade game 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Я на игровом автомате играл в эту игру!!!)))))
They just don't make games like Turbo Outrun anymore and it's a shame, kids today are really missing out.

그냥 아웃런이 모든면이 좋음!
Why are the tunnels composed of multiple arches instead of a solid continuous tunnel?
The game is all sprites. They couldn't do a single continuous tunnel like that.
👌!
I prefer the original Out Run from 1986. I don't why but find this one disappointing. I also really enjoyed Outrunners.
I feel bad for the blonde bloke.
It's Big Ian This game is EPIC. You guys are nut
This an emulator not the arcade version
It's the arcade version emulated.
the emulator is mame32
Its emulated so no it isnt the arcade version
Do you start shit just to start shit? It may be emulated, but it’s still using the arcade ROM.
