Cabbage is such an under-appreciated vegetable. My wife and I grow about seventy heads every year, give away half to friends and family and eat the other half. No kidding! It goes in the root cellar and that's our 'salad greens' for winter. We love your cooking videos. Cheers from Williams Lake, B.C. Canada.
Oh man, this one is absolutely going into my “make it all the dang time” collection of recipes so beautifully simple and with such easy to get ingredients! (only one not literally in my kitchen right now is the actual cabbage ☺️). Plus, I just impulse ordered a mandolin, and this might have to be my inaugural dish!
That looks delish. I don't use cabbage enough, but I do use many of the other ingredients, so it's on my list. Your kitchen design looks fantastic. Brave use of white tiles, smart use of dark grout, ;). So happy to see your new cooktop/stove. Happy cooking!
I made this tonight but had two missing ingredients. I'd had salmon twice this week so thought I'd use cod. I didn't have any garam masala (which is odd) so I made my own, of sorts. The cabbage was gorgeous and the spice mix worked a treat. The cod...just don't do it. I keep trying to like this fish, but haven't yet found a recipe that quite does it. I'm sure the salmon imparted the perfect contrast. Cod, the wrong choice. Live and learn.
I salvaged it. I had 2 pieces of cod in the original dish and cabbage leftover. So another dish was in order. I keep bits of salmon (thin pieces, edges, etc.) frozen to use in pasta. I took out a piece, Indian spiced it up and poached it. Mixed it with the leftover cod and made Indian fish cakes. Served that on top of the cabbage with a bit of spicy raita and it was delicious. Not the texture you were after to be sure, but not wanting to waste, brings out the creative.
I like how you explain things. This recipe is right up my alley. I don’t have any whole cumin, mine’s ground but I will try to find it for next time. I’m a huge curry fan and I love cabbage and salmon
Anyone ever tell you that you look like a young Jayne Meadows? (Makes me wish I were your Steve Allen, but those years have past). Your cooking ideas are wonderful; taking average/common foods and making them delicious. You're elegant, beautiful, and a pleasure to learn cooking ideas from!
@@kaiju_k5042 oooh you just taught me something new about my town! I’m a tea lunatic I found some great loose teas at bobs red mill store. Thanks I’ll look it up!
I also meant to say, I love your salad station idea. I'm having a devil of a time finding a restaurant supply store that sells to the public though. I've found their sites and listings of poly pans etc., but grrr. I'm not in your neck of the woods, (Ontario GTA) so I guess I'll just keep hunting because I'm convinced this would work for me.
@@HowToMakeDinner That is very kind of you but I'm sure you have enough on your...no I won't use that expression with you, lol. I'll keep hunting and see if some of the places I've found will deliver small orders.
I know you've been waiting with bated breathe, (kidding), but I just had to say that I found a restaurant supply store that I can go to. Surfing through their site, I've found the poly pans I want, a honing rod and carbon steel pans. I think they are pretty utilitarian, i.e., not de Buyer, but affordable for me at the moment, so I may try one. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yes feeling this too haha! 😁 So happy you're back Paula, and congrats on the lovely reno! Edit: had to add, my daughter is going to LOVE this...she always asks me to make "cabbage stir-fry" when she comes home (which is just a basic stir-fry with a lot of cabbage lol).
You’re glowing in your new kitchen! Can’t wait to see more recipes
Ohh thank you. I’m definitely more at peace in there!
new kitchen looks great! 👍
I’m so glad you like it!!
@@HowToMakeDinner and i can't wait to make this... looks so good! 😋

That should have been the video title! 😄

Nice
Have you tried it with other Indian base spices like for example black mustard or methi seeds?
I’ve used those spices before but not for this particular recipe. I love it so much as it is!
Beautiful, i am blood type AB+, this recipe is right up my street.
