There's something in the way this kid attacks her jumps that makes me think she'll become a great senior ladies champion. I would not be surprised to see her on the medals podium at Sochi although probably not on the top step. She flew into her jumps with great confidence during the first half of her program especially and, even though her posture and musicality still need developing, her speed and flow across the ice is amazing. But most impressive is her concentration and determination.
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!! That's amazing, fantastic, incredible, what a great talent!!! 3 lutz and 3 loop combination...2 axel and 3 toeloop...and she is only 14!!! Magnificent!!! She has to improve a lot in presentation but with this large amount of talent it would not be difficult.:) ADELINA SOTNIKOVA - THE HOPE OF EUROPE!!!
I see the program once after other one, and I´m unable to remove the eyes of the rink though I know myself that movement effects in every moment. She´s perfect. She has everything, technic, artistic, expression, choreography... And only she´s15 years old..
@kstarnes333 Two times. She won in 2009 when she was 12 years old I believe. In 2010, she was 4th. Now, she became first once again in 2011. Some people thought in 2009 that her win was just lucky, but as you can see, she is two-time national champion.
I like Adelina and Liza skating. They both have strengths but they are only two of upcoming Russian ladies skaters on the horizon. Julia Li, Polina S will be appearing on the GP circuit next season and Sofia B will by competing at the 2011 Cup of Rostel(former Cup of Russia) in 3 weeks. Sofia B is very promising and I think may surpass Adelina and Liza. Also, I think Adelina style reminds me of Maria B.
@dexterkatinski how many figure skaters have landed a 3-3 and a 2axel-3 in a national competition at the age of fourteen? her posture and artistry will improve as she matures and ages. she's got her technique down, so now she knows what she has to focus on. i believe she'll be a serious contender for gold in soichi 2014. p.s. i'm an american.
At this stage, only a combination of Elizaveta, puberty, and being called for a slight flutz might derail her chances of gold in 2014. Right now, at the junior level, callers are ignoring this but come the senior GP, things might change (Elizaveta, her main competitor, has no edge issues). And if she blooms in the hips, watch out...tho it prolly won't matter since her jumps are SOO explosive. I can def. see Adelina and Eliza both going for the 3a in Sochi.
I see plenty of potential in this skater. If she continues her progress Russia will likely have a ladies medal contender for the 2014 Olympics. I find it ironic that she is using the same music Michelle Kwan had for her 1994-1995 long program. Michelle was also 14 when she placed 3rd in the free skate and 4th place overall at the 1995 World Championships. Perhaps Sotnikova will have an impressive showing at the 2011 World Championships.
@dexterkatinski I agree, but only a bit, She is VERY talented! There are corrections/improvements that can be made for sure. I get the feeling, if she was told/taught to correct her positions she certainly has the ability to do it. The choreography could've been better and, again, she can handle better, more complex choreography. BUT, having said all that, she is a WONDERFUL skater already and with HUGE potential to be even better, I do agree with others she is one to watch!!
@MisterBokeh the difference between adelina and the skaters you've cited is that adelina has already proved she can skate better technical programs than many of the leading top senior skaters. a triple lutz-triple loop would be a tall order for a male skater to complete, let alone a fourteen year old woman; even yuna kim doesn't do that combination. if she maintains her technical ability and matures artistically, as any skater would, i think she'll be a force to be reckoned with.
@cw6391 a triple lutz-triple loop combo is more difficult than a lutz-toe as you don't have a toe assist when you take off for the triple toe. with a loop as a second jump in a combo, you land the first triple and take off from that exact same foot. so yes, it is a more difficult combination, one that most men are even shy of trying.
Russia sends in all competitions Alena Leonova and Ksenia Makarova. But they are not the best skater of his country .. At the moment the best skater in Russia are Adelina Sotnikova and Lisa Tuktamysheva. But they did not speak at the World Championships because he did not later in age. Adelina Russian Champion 2011!!
Not so. I think her grace and the spirals she executes reminds me more of Sasha's. Her jumps are so cleanly executed I think that she completely stands apart from the rest of the other figure skaters.
@cw6391 like I said, I think she has great jumps. did you not read that? i do hope that her posture/artistry improve as she ages, but you can't rely on age alone to correct these components of skating. slutskaya's posture/artistry never really improved much throughout her career, aside from the weight loss and different costuming that occurred after she failed to make the podium at 1999 Russian Nationals. I think she will be a contender in 2014 if she and her team address these issues.
although she is good, we still must watch out on her, cause as she grows, her body can change and... like mao asada.. she was way better than adelina in juniors but now, she has hard time being 1st in podium. anyways hope not to see her being like mao.
an almost complete lack of choreography throughout several sections, so many crossovers i lost count. great jumps, but I am not impressed with her spins at all. the biellmann and i-spin positions are quite poor. to cw6391, she is fourteen and there is no excuse for these positions to be poor at 14. in her defense, i think that negative aspects of her skating/this program has more to do with her coach than with her at this age.
Браво!!Просто нет слов!! Блестяще!!!
Both her and Tiktameysheva are incredible talents and they are so young. Will be amazing to see them in 2014 at Sochi.
Аделина, так держать!!!
Просто шикарно, наша надежда в Сочи!!!
Главное, чтобы не загубили девочку...
next olympic champ right here!!!

this girl can JUMP! she's going to seriously kick ass in the GP series this year.

to all critics: she's only fourteen! imagine how good she will be two or three years from now.

omg very impressive artistically and technically young beautiful champion
The Queen of a New Ice Age in Figure Skating!
Long Live the Queen. :D
The BEST 14 y.o. skater ever!
great jumps!!!

@kstarnes333 This is the senior skate. She did not compete in the juniors. Tuktamysheva won the junior ladies nationals.
WOW!
天才少女です。本当に素晴らしい。
本領発揮した時、誰も彼女には敵わないでしょう。
3lz-3lo!gogo.

@ArtemisDianaSelene how many times has she been the russian campion?
Another little marvel from Russia.

Was this the senior or junior level free skate? I know she was the WJ champion
Not so. I think her grace and the spirals she executes reminds me more of Sasha's. Her jumps are so cleanly executed I think that she completely stands apart from the rest of the other figure skaters.

she's always kneeling when she landed.. i dont connect to her but great jumper
from like 2:54 she stays in one leg for like 10 secs doing twizzles in both directions and a spiral. EDGE CONTROL OMG
2011 sotnikova is amazing. Loved her skating at this age... now I cringe throughout her programs :/
i mean on the computer not me lol
She is too young to compete in 2011 at seniors competitions? Too bad... She was National chamions in 2008-2009, she was only 12!
although she is good, we still must watch out on her, cause as she grows, her body can change and... like mao asada.. she was way better than adelina in juniors but now, she has hard time being 1st in podium. anyways hope not to see her being like mao.
wonderful jumps, but not a whole lot else.
思いっきりフルッツだね。

omg russians can JUMP!!
she needs more personality though, i think that will come with age though
да...Туктамышева и Липницкая были гораздо лучше...
