I'm excited! I'm 72 and art-challenged. But I need to paint. Recently in my landscapes I have been hiding obscure faces because I needed to have some sort of a creature and not just sky and mountains and trees. I then realized that my inner artist needed to make human figures. I was surprised at the number of artists on RUclips showing how to paint figures. I quickly got a big list of videos to watch. But then I saw Albert's video and this is where I will start. I can do this! I'm excited!
Thanks, Danny, just what I hoped for when I made the video. Enjoy painting your figures. May I suggest a second video: ruclips.net/video/xWFjXzaQxDk/видео.htmlsi=_1R6Ck-BaXNyBHjI. Have a wonderful day, Albert
Thank you! As someone new to painting I’m drawn to abstract expressionism but have been hesitant to include people within the composition. This video has captured the process I needed to get my head wrapped around how to approach the human figures perfectly. I’m looking forward to giving it a try!
Thanks, Jet9woman. My aim is to get people (at least) try painting. Accompanied by the idea that anything is okay. You paint at your skills level and only do, do, doing will get you further. And please have fun doing 😉 Albert Albert
You should have a title like SOMETHING FUN TO DO WHEN HOME BOUND most of us no nothing about painting but you make it look so fun and easy !!! Or just HOME BOUND FUN !! LOL I've been practicing doing it and shared with my daughter
Thanks Jesse, great title suggestion. I will think of a new fun exercise and name it like that. Somewhere in fall. At the moment I enjoy doing nothing om my first workless summer break .😁 Albert
Thanks, Lorraine. Luckily, a lot of abstract painting isn't about perfect brushstrokes. Instead, it is about what you feel about meeting colors and picking what you want to paint. I explain all sorts of ways to look at (abstract) art in the videos. You'll get there. But most of all: just have fun. Albert
Hi Serece, good to hear you tried it yourself first, always the best way to go. By doing you learn how it works for you and maybe the kids will do just great. I would live to hear how it worked out. Albert
Hi Marie-Christine, yes exactly, paint whatever you feel and let your imagination run free, instead of your mind telling you it has to be realistic. Enjoy painting. Thanks for commenting, bye Albert
you're paintings are really beautiful! You did an excellent job demonstrating how to approach figurative abstraction. Very accessible to the novice. Looking forward to more from you, well done!
@@ImperfectPaintings I wouldn't consider myself a painter, but I have painted before. In the fine art space I've been focusing most recently on performance. But I consider myself a junky for abstract work in particular. The samples you show at the end of the video are so appealing.
Hi Albert, just to say I have started bookmarking your videos into my own categories, so I can pinpoint your advice for my own artistic development. That way I can mash-up different artist's styles to see if I can discover interesting images. Thanks for these great videos.👍
Hi Rawdon, thanks for sharing. I'm interested to hear what combinations you will make. Also i would like to see what you create. Let me know when you are interested to share. Albert
Sure Albert, thanks. The last four months of lockdown, here in the UK, has been a great opportunity to develop my skills. So no way am I going to loose the momentum I have gained. Cheers 🎨
This style of painting figures is incredibly fascinating! Love your work and your students as well. This inspires me for some future animations in videos. Thanks Albert!
Omg never thought of doing humans like this! Two brush strokes and such an evocative image! Ps; why has the person on the right of the river not got a shadow?
I love this video!. I really enjoyed the students work too. I am going to go immediately to doodle some human abstraction. This was exiting and interesting. I needed the guidance. Subscribing now.
Hi Jane, yes, pictures of it. Would be wonderful to walk around there, but Australia is unfortunately the antipodes (?) of the Netherlands. We have one of his sculptures in Lelystad, next to the water. Bye, Albert
I really love his artwork. I'm looking for ways to make a video about him. Your Australia images helped shaping my ideas. Thanks for it. Do you live in Australia? Bye, Albert
Hello Albert, yes I live in Western Australia which is a wonderful place. It’s a vast state ranging from windy coastlines to red sandy deserts. Lake Ballard is almost a thousand km away from me and I haven’t seen the sculptures in real life. I think it’s wonderful that you are thinking of doing a video inspired by his work. It was your abstract figures that made me think of him.
Thanks for the reply, always nice to talk like this. I recently rewatched my human figure video and am still quite pleased with it. Great to hear it made you think of Gormley 😁😁😁 Australia is on my (dream)list to visit. Bye, albert
Hi Culture Fan, thanks. Yes I know he does. It reminds me a bit of the clothing in the '80s, with shoulder patches, looking like American football players. I read it will be coming back a bit (as everything in fashion). Fritz Scholder, interesting portraits, thanks for the tip. Bye, Albert
This really hits home today. We had a child in our community drown in the nearby river. Only his boots were found. He is the little figure on the other side of the water. Rest In Peace, little Dylan.

Ohhhhhh..... how interesting..... I think this time your students did a more interesting work than yours, some of their works touch the heart! Beautiful video.
Hi Con Civ, thanks for dropping by. And you can be true about my students making nicer things. My job is to give them the idea how they can paint differently to improve their skills. Do you paint as well? Albert

this definitely made me giggle too...Albert, is just the best
Thanks Serece. 😊
Just found you. This makes me happy and I want to try. Thank you 🌹
Thanks, Diana. Enjoy, Albert
This process is a perfect way to enhance my lessons on helping kids understand the process of abstract art for my introduction on Diebenkorn.
I tried it w a picture of myself, and I have to say, it wasn't the easiest thing to get to the most simplest, abstract version of me.
Hi Serece, thanks. Sounds like an interesting plan. I hope the kids will like it. Albert

Bob Burridge on YT describes painting the figure similarly like painting a carrot. One of my favorite figurative painters is Fritz Scholder.
