Steve, it's too bad that you are having some fit issues with your Vulcan. I've looked in on some other builds and they all seem to have fitting issues and sink problems as well. That's too bad Airfix hasn't addressed the problem. I am enjoying your build. Looking forward to the next part. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Its disappointing Steven. It doesn't bother me too much as I'm long enough in the tooth to be able to deal with the fit issues but it will deter and disappoint some newer to the hobby. Airfix could and should do better.
Nice work there. And it will pay off in the final paint, too. I am reminded, though, of an F-15 build someone did on YT where they super details intakes & exhausts, then installed FOD covers--:)
Good Evening Steve. I have built the earlier Vulcan kit and that kit was not as bad as has been touted - looking at your problems I can't see that it was really all that worse than this white elephant. I have built (or rather hammered out and fought with) the newer 24 scale Airfix products. They suffered badly from extremely poor quality control, not surprising when you know these kits were produced in a Country where issues such as quality and pride in one's efforts take a decidedly second place to profit. The Board of Directors at Hornby do not appear to give a damn about us and the fact we have to actually earn the money to pay for this rubbish. I agree with your dissertation concerning the Sea Fury - what a great 48 scale kit, and sadly a real dichotomy that I feel will come back to bite Airfix. I simply cannot believe that so-called 'reviewers' are talking absolute rubbish when reviewing these products - although when Airfix are providing you the kit free of charge such actions are pretty much forthcoming. I for one will not be buying another Airfix product until the Company see the light and move production to the UK. All the best in trying to complete the Vulcan Steve. Kind Regards, Dennis
You’re right Dennis it’s a bit disappointing to say the least. I think Airfix will be getting a bit of the negative feedback by now but who knows if they’ll take any notice.
Really nice work. Your circles for the intakes are a great idea. It's so disappointing to see Airfix still being beset with problems. I had a similar sink mark issue with their Shackleton MR2 which was irritating to say the least. Airfix have invested heavily in new technology and design talent but are being badly let down badly by the moulders who don't appear to have anything resembling proper quality control. The modern Airfix team is quite small I believe and if I was part of it, or of the management, I'd be absolutely livid and asking serious questions of the moulding contractors.
Sorry to say it but it seems to be like any other airfix model.more time spent fixing poor fit than anything else. I thought being new tooling might have changed airfix for the better.
Hi Jerry. This is actually a step backwards for Airfix in terms of fit. I've built several of the newer kits and they didn't have the fit and quality control issues of this Vulcan. The Hurricane, new tool spitfire, Sea fury and several others were much less hassle.

@@TheModelShed You say that, but I'm not sure they could do better. They simply don't appear to be competent enough to do so.
Hi Steve, very nice video. You did a beautiful job masking those intakes. See you Friday!
Will do Jeff thanks - The corvette hull is together and well take a look at it on Friday

Damn - why didn't I think of that..........🤔
Excellent build can I ask what size are the circles you cut out for the intakes
They're about 0.9mm diameter Keith. They were the smallest radius my circle cutter could deal with but fortunately they look about right

Excellent work
Thanks Bryan
Had the same issue with the splitters, lot of work to get it looking ok. Wish I’d thought of the masking tape circles idea….🙄
The true test will be when I take the masking off Ian - I won't count my chickens before then.....

Agree with all that Tim. They definitely need to get more consistent with their products and for sure get a better holding contract in place.
Genius!
Not sure about that Paul but thanks anyway. 😇
