    The film was directed by Ron Underwood and written by S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock. Tremors stars Kevin Bacon as Valentine McKee, Fred Ward as Earl Bass, Finn Carter as Rhonda LeBeck, Michael Gross as Burt Gummer, Reba McEntire as Heather Gummer, Robert Jayne as Melvin Plug, Charlotte Stewart as Nancy, Tony Genaro as Miguel, Ariana Richards as Mindy, Richard Marcus as Nestor and Victor Wong as Walter Chang.
    Check out this first time watching horror reaction video for Tremors, and see if I can make it as a horror movie rookie. Horror is a genre I've barely explored, mostly because I'm a huge wuss. Typically my Halloween movie viewings consist of Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. This year I decided to expand my horror movie knowledge and try and watch these horror movie fan favourites.

    Kevin Bacon didn't even want to do this movie because he thought it would kill his career and then it ended up being one of his most well-regarded roles.

    • @bfdidc6604

      Yeah, apparently he didn't want to associate himself with the role for years, but ultimately came around on the subject.

    • @44excalibur
      @44excalibur 3 года назад +3

      Well, Kevin Bacon did end up doing Tremors because his career took a downward turn after his big role in the hit movie, Footloose. His subsequent films, like Quicksilver and She's Having A Baby, all flopped, and he basically took Tremors because he wasn't getting a lot of roles. The same year he did Tremors he got cast in Flatliners.

    I grew up watching this movie on the Navajo Nation! It's one of my favorites! The idea for the movie came from the screenwriters Brent Maddock and SS Wilson, whom were in the Navy. They were sitting on a large boulder taking notes in a Nevada Test Site and one of them said, "What if there was something under the ground that would never let us off this rock?" Thus the movie Tremors was born

    Yes, that is Victor Wong from John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness as Walter, Jen. But sci-fi audiences were first introduced to him in John Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China, which again, I highly recommend. It's not a horror film, it's more of a Kung Fu-fantasy adventure movie with Kurt Russell.

      In September 11 2001 a man name Henryk Siwiak was killed. I am going to tell you what happened. Mr Siwiak, 46, had been living in New York about 11 months since moving here form Poland to find work and send money home to his wife of 20 years, Eva, and their two children, Gabriela 18, and Adam, 11. His job in Poland as a railroad man had dried up, and now he was living near his sister, Lucyna Siwiak, in the Rockaways. On September 11, he had found a job, mopping floors overnight in a pathmark supermarket on Albany Avenue in Brooklyn. He was to start that night. He put on his favorite outfit, a choice that would be scrutinized by detectives later: camouflage pants and a matching coat that he had bought from the Salvation Army and black boots. He carried sneakers and another pair of pants in a backpack. He had asked the landlady at his house on beach 91st street how to get to the store, and they found Albany Avenue on a subway map. Take the a train to Utica, she told him, not realizing that she was sending him to 1 Albany Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant, and not 1525 Albany Avenue, where the store was, more then three miles away in Farragut. He walked up the steps of the subway station sometime after 11 pm. Camouflage or no, he stood out right away. I passed the white guy on Fulton Street, a witness told detectives later. He reached the wrong stretch of Albany and turned right, the wrong way. The block, at the top of the Avenue, was dangerous Detective Prate said, and that night would not have been any different. I don’t know if the World Trade Center falling down really affects the drug trade on Albany Avenue, he said. Neighbors heard shots. A blood trail showed that Mr. Siwiak, wounded, crossed Decatur Street and went up a stoop to ting a doorbell for help. I heard the bell ringing, a woman in the building told detectives later, but I wasn’t answering it after I heard those shots. Mr. Siwiak went back down the steps and fell on his face and died. The Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit aids in homicide and sexual assault investigations, hauling out big, bright lights to scenes like this one to help find fingerprints, footprints and other clues, but the unit could not come to Decatur that night. Practically every officer in town was working a 12th or 14th hour somewhere else when Mr. Siwiak fell. Instead, an evidence collection team, which normally responds to burglaries and other non fatal crimes, investigated the scene. Ten years later not a single witness to the shooting has surfaced. Detective Prate has interviewed people arrested in other crimes in the area, hoping to make a deal fir information, which no luck.detective Prate would not rule anything . There is a $12,000 reward. In Poland, Mr Siwiak,s widow has all but given up. I’m afraid this is forever, she said on the telephone this week. Every year on the anniversary, Mr Siwiak's sister now 62 makes her way to St Patrick's Cathedral, another mourner in the crowd, but separated. Sometimes it is too crowded, or she is told she needs a ticket, and so she puts it off for a couple of days,Nudged aside, by a city's larger loss

The way the were able to move around while the smaller inside ones came out and also moved, all independently of each other, had to have been a pretty complex process. Fun Fact: Tremors was originally given an R rating by the MPAA for not just violence, but also at least 20 uses of the F-word. The filmmakers decided to make the film more marketable by removing most of those scenes and dubbing over the rest, like “mother-humpers" and “can you fly, sucker," and Tremors ended up with a PG-13 rating.

    Earl's big riffle is a "Elephant Gun" that is a Belgian-made William Moore & Co. 8-gauge firing solid slugs. When they jumped from the rocks it fell and broke its stock from its own! Apparently, on the wall of guns, among the pistols, there is a .600 Nitro Express revolver version of another elephant gun firing even larger ammo! It is a few pegs lower than the flare gun in some shots, but not in all of them as they shot that scene at multiple locations and rebuilt the set...

    The story takes place in the somewhat fictional little town of Perfection, Nevada. Where it was actually shot is a secret only the credits can tell.
    Melanin is the skin pigment that naturally protects against burning. More melanin = darker suntan. The more tanned you are, the less likely you are to be badly sunburnt. The nose is a particularly painful place to be burnt, so very fair-complexioned people in situations with bright sun and no shade will wear spf 35 on most of their skin and spf 4000 on their nose. Nowadays it's not just white paint; it comes in a variety of weird colors. Kermit green is fairly popular.

    This movie is a blast! I saw it in theaters as a teenager. I always assumed the nuclear testing in the southwest mutated some worm although one of the 6 or 7 sequels might provide a definitive answer.
    Survivalist Burt Gummer, played by Michael Gross, becomes the lead character in many, if not all, of the sequels. The role was a departure for him because he was primarily known as the milquetoast dad on the sitcom "Family Ties" that made Michael J. Fox a star.
    Some of the sequels are highly entertaining. The secret sauce to the series are the practical effects which provide enough realism to feel threatening and cut through the comedy. Some CGI may be employed down the line but there's always a puppet. I saw a boxed set that collected 5 of the movies together as a bundle!

    Also, the Gummer's private stash "The Elephant Gun" is probably an (old) .450 to .480 Nitro Express. Expanding bullets (like a hollow point.)
    Basically a 12-gauge slug from a longer rifled barrel with almost 2x the powder.
    About the only thing that would be more effective, would be a .50-cal anti-material rifle. Which would have gone through the Graboid's head, and lodged several inches into the non-existent proper bream soil beyond the cinder blocks.

I myself have seen it many times as I am Australian and it's a pretty regular feature of cricket players, lifeguards and surfers. Although it's usually zinc and it's because the nose sticks out a bit from under a hat and it's quite sensitive so there that is.

    Someone might have mentioned it, but the white 'sunscreen' on the nose isnt sunscreen. Its Zinc Oxide paste. Thing is back then the highest SPF was about 8 on sunscreens... and Zinc paste was often just stuck on the nose and cheeks (I think it was alot stronger than most Sunscreens). Not sure if anyone ever uses the stuff any more given how much we've come with SPF levels and we are alot more UV conscious so some Zinc Paste on the nose and cheeks doesnt cut it any more.
    But yes, people used to do that in those situations... or if you were an Aussie Cricketer lol.

    The final scene was added after test screening. Like you said, there had to be some smooching between Val and Rhonda.
    Also of note, a lot of the special shots were actually practical effects. Some shots were done with matte paintings, a common thing in Hollywood movies.
    Also, the worms' (graboids) movements were done by pulling an upside-down boat under loosely packed earth.

Yes, Tremors was more of a comedy than a horror movie, although it does feature great creature effects and acting performances. Tremors mostly takes inspiration from the old 1950s giant monster movies like THEM! and Tarantula. Speaking of, I believe that the 1988 remake of The Blob is one that you might find a lot scarier, if it's scares that you're looking for. 😜

    Tremors is AWESOME!. Also, this really wasn't a horror. More like a B horror comedy. As you saw, they didn't take themselves seriously. Kevin Bacon was running out of money and that's why he did this movie. Didn't think it was going to do well... it didn't but gained steam on VHS and at Blockbuster. His wife was also 9 months pregnant and they had a phone on wait for her call. He left after one of the shoots cause she went into labor, still dressed in his movie clothes for his role. They had so much fun making this movie.

    I love Tremors, it's one of my favourite films. The monsters are dangerous but not unstoppable, with both the people and the Graboids learning about each other. It's a battle of wits with the people being pretty smart about it rather than the plot being driven by them being idiots. Also interesting as a rare horror film set almost entirely in bright sunlight. The sequels are great too, definitely worth watching too, and even the TV series is fun, even if it's a bit wackier than the films.

    No, Tremors isn't based on anything. The writers came up with the idea for the script when they were making a series of educational safety videos for the United States Navy. As they were getting footage they climbed a large boulder and then wondered what would happen if something under the ground wouldn't let them off that rock. That, of course, ended up in the movie in the scene with Val, Earl, and Rhonda stuck on that boulder.

      @michaelccozens 3 года назад

      Great comparison! It's almost an entirely different genre from Jaws, too, which is an interesting statement on how much a director's vision can influence the audience's perception of similar stories. This one feels, to me, like a love letter to 50s' creature-features, rather than a horror as such. I can imagine Tremors being paired with some of those theatre gimmicks they used to use with low- to mid-budget B-movies, like maybe vibrating seats synced to the appearance of the Graboids.

    Creature feature horrors are often less scary than the 'psycho killer' type, although not always. If you want a not very scary horror, 'Gremlins' is a children's horror film, although it was one that led to the creation of the PG-13 rating (the other was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which is more action adventure than horror).
