To those concerned about the stickers... One idea is to stick them on cardstock, cut them out, and paper clip them onto your sheet. That way you can reuse them.
whilst i havent played the rpg myself, i know the lore/universe think magic + tech in an extremely corrupt city, one that makes detroit look like a utopia Lone star = cops Adepts = D&D beserkers/musclemen Shaman = conjurer + spirit channeler Rigger - Engineer Decker - Hacker but like the matrix, if they die in the hack, they die outside the hack love this game
Glad to hear the game is good. Was worried it might be too clunky, but looks fairly smooth. Think it'd be nicer if the stickers were removable, but if playing with others that are going to replay over and over again , should be fine. There's also been a few PC games in the Shadowrun Universe... most recent being Shadowrun Returns.. quite enjoyable.
Oh the stickers? No, not magnets... vinyl stickers... there are removable stickers that can be applied and later removed... a lot of kids sticker books have them. Don't seem overly expensive if they get used in cheap books
I agree. It don't really lend itself to the whole "Legacy" style gameplay that they're trying to borrow from with permanent changes to the material, and that added "bonus" of hindering second hand resaleability. I'd rather seen that they'd followed Descent and made character progression less permanent, it wouldn't have felt like such a cheap attempt to hinder second hand resales. That said, a bit of scaning and photoshop and you can have some good print out experienced character sheets or even more re-modular pieces. The game, mechanicly, looks interesting though. We like shadowrun, we like deck building and we do like cooperative games, so it looks like we'll be picking this one up, despite the whole stickers bit. The character sheets, and the stickers, do look a bit flimsy and I'd love it if they had gone another way, with a smaller, thicker quality, character cards and just had sturdier cards or tiles instead of stickers. But I guess I'll have to get crafty and make that on my own. PS. I do like Risk Legacy, there, in that context the idea works, after all you have countless other Risk editions to chose from if you don't like it. Here, not so much.
Scanner + Printer = No need to use the actual character sheets + stickers. I mean who even bothered to write on the Pathfinder Adventure Card game character cards??
One suggestion, regarding "The Great Sticker Catastrophe of 2014"--and maybe this suggestion comes later than 11:38 in the video--use card sleeves. Put the stickers on the card sleeves. Alternatively, cut the stickers out, without using the adhesive, just place them over the appropriate "slot" on the card. A lot of work-around are possible.
i love shadowrun. i play the rpg, and it is a fantastic universe, and a good system. i am glad to see it translated well to this game. definitely picking this one up.
Stayed up til 4:30am playing this the first time my friend brought it over. If you enjoy coop games that have carryover effects from game to game with character progression, this game might be for you.
I am so ridiculously glad this is good. I was very worried that this game wouldn't be worth the wait. I've been waiting for this review for a while, and I am not disappointed at all. Thank you for the great review (and more Zee, YAY!)
I loved old Sega Shadowrun game and i enjoy current PC versions (Shadowrun Returns), so i was immediately interested in this one. I can get over the stickers. As you said there are many characters to select from (if playing with the new players and you need to start with simple missions) and someone already suggested that you can stick them on a cardboard and assemble your character before the next mission from your notes. Theme is not very strong, but still can be recognized. Well, it isn't RPG after all (i haven't played any). But i still dig this and gameplay seems interesting.
This definitely interests me, stickers and all. The only deckbuilder I have is Thunderstone: Advance with a couple of expansions. I only play the Epic variant now, but I rarely have the urge to play it anymore: waiting for the right combination of cards can become tedious. I like how Shadowrun allows the player to use a card they just bought, giving some immediacy to the shopping mechanism. This and Core Worlds tempt me into adding another deckbuilder into my collection, but I'm not really sure if I want more than one...
I love Shadowrun and have been waiting for a game from that universe that fits my play style -- this fits the bill for sure! As much as deckbuilding wouldn't be my first choice when looking for theme, I think there's enough here to get the vibe I'm after, and it's co-op so I can play alone -- big plus. As for stickers, I don't have a problem with making the game my own -- there's almost no chance of me ever trying to sell it -- but as a designer or publisher, I would sooner throw my game off the roof than put stickers in it. It's a known taboo that pisses people off and there is no justifiable reason to include them in a game like this (there is no comparison between this and Risk Legacy). If you can't think your way around using stickers, you have no business making games; it's really just as simple as that. (Understand that I'm not saying they shouldn't be making games, but rather that they could have easily worked around it but chose not to, which speaks to an ulterior motive, whatever that may be.)
Did they HAVE to use stickers? It seems like there would be plenty of ways to do the same thing but have reusable components. That's what irks me the most.
Another new game for this wish list, dang it! The stickers thing just tells me that I won't be spending money on card sleeves, that's all. Kind of a relief actually--I'm usually too fussy about that. :) I too would love to see a comparison between this game and the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, as well as XenoShyft.
Looks pretty good. I don't find the sticker thing to be an issue at all. Basically they are character sheets which get updated over time. All the Felix Unger must have game in mint condition for reselling later players I can see objecting but there been too many deck building games that tend to have their theme just kind of there from their source. It sounds like they worked it in the game nicely.
Based on this review , this game seems to be a mashup of Legendary (coop deckbuilder) and Pathfinder the adventure game (Campaign story mode) wit hthe Risk Legacy aspect (Stickers) ..... Looks promising !
I play both Legendary and Pathfinder, and I see some similarities, but it is definitely not so similar that it just feels like a different theme. Pathfinder and this game share the hand limit and card type rules. Legendary really just shares the idea of the HQ/Black Market to make your hand better. Other than that, it really doesn't play like either.
I admit that my first thought when seeing the stickers was "they better sell those character sheets and stickers separately". While they kind of are, I'm still one of those guys that likes the option to bring his games back into the original state. As pointed out, it's not like you really have to use them. Apart from that, I just pre-ordered. I was cautious and a little worried that the game might end being pretty mediocre. Since it's apparently good enough to be considered a good game by non-fans, this looks like a risk free buy. Except that I now have to dig for old source books. I was pretty sure the monofilament whip had an extremely thin wire. Wrapping it around someone and pulling on it won't make them come towards you, it will turn them into sliced human (unless I'm either remembering it wrong or it got changed since 3rd Ed.)
asado is very interesting I mean there's some books and some pens and paper stuff to deal with all of it comes with the game is right there in the box and the stickers make it unique you don't have to write anything in character sheets and it a new way with new events, and missions
I demoed this last year at gencon. I'm glad they tweaked it and they added those stickers (even though if I got it i'd probably just record them on a sheet of paper) Because last year I was so underwhelmed.
I see there are a few games that use the purchase in the middle stile/ (mechanic) to help customize your deck. Like Mike Elliott's Quarriors, and soon coming XenoShyft Onslaught.
This game is one of the most talked about Solo board games, that isn't as well know. Waiting for a re-print, but I guess it was re-implemented as Dragonfire... which isn't in the Shadowrun universe afaik. EDIT: Never-mind. Somehow confused with Space Hulk: Death Angel - The Card Game.
So, is there any Matrix element to the game (think Android: Netrunner)? If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it's got a lot of facets but one of the core ones is doing hacker runs (the "Decker" class) in the internet ("Matrix"), so I'd be pretty disappointed if this release is solely focussed on the physical combat.
I think it would be an interesting comparison, since they are both cooperative card games based on an existing RPG. However, the Pathfinder adventure card game is not really a deck building game.
I was more interested in the "permanent" character development, and Pathfinder is close enough to a deckbuilder that a overall comparisson would be helpfull as well :)
I really wanted to hear one too! I picked up Pathfinder and after a few plays I don't think anyone was really digging it. The turns are so boring, flip a card, play one of your cards and roll a die. I donno, just wasn't that fun. This seems pretty cool and I would love a side by side review, even if they play apples to oranges they are both card games made from table top RPG IPs.
Corgibuttz Gaming I love Pathfinder Adventure Card game! You definitely have to immerse yourself, also the game gets better and better the more you gear up.
thank you for the good review. if i think of it, i have some concerns... its all based on the honor of players. and honestly: tcg-players, which are probably the consumers for this product, are not popular for that. but anyways, if you have more developement then there's space to place stickers... what then? i dont like the idea of that. well... lets formulate it that way: i think, its not that well thought through. yould you say thats correct? or am i wrong and its solved superior and the feeling is uncompareable?
Just get some foldable magnets, cut them to fit the sticker and glue another magnet or a light sheet of metal on to the character cards. I think chaosball has something like this.
Have never played the tabletop, but love the videogames and the setting. So i will pick this up :) Don't like the sticker system. but i guess there can be a solution to that.
I think I'll put together a webpage that lets you track your characters and abilities. Should be pretty simple once all the stuff is scanned in. That should take care of my only problem with the game, then you just keep your phone/ipad out for reference.
Yes, but you'll have an easier time of it if one player uses one of the new roles from the High-Caliber Ops expansion that effectively combines Hacker and Street Samurai or Mage and Face to cover the missing role in your team.
It's Decker... with a "D as in Dog". Its the Shadowrun word for Hacker. Odd that Rigger, Shaman, and Physical Adepts aren't in there... but I'm guessing they kind of merged those together.
Use scissors. Cut stickers out. Take stickers you want for your guys for whatever game you play. DONE. There is no need to put the stickers physically onto the sheets. Use the old fashion pen and paper and note who has what stickers. Another option. I am amazed at how unimaginative some people are to problems.
I also do not like that stickers, but honestly: One can cut them out and place it on the character....so there is no need to really put those stickers on your character....so iut should be not a big deal. The progress of your character can be recorded on paper.
Sorry, there is no excuse for stickers in a board game*. If a game can't be reset (Risk: Legacy, I'm looking at you), I am not buying it. If I can't start over, then I'm not buying it. *cosmetic changes excluded, of course
I agree with you that I really dont like altering my games. I am thinking putting the stickers on cardboard stock and cutting them out and keeping a dollar pen and notebook in the game book to keep track (What I do with the Pathfinder cardgame)
You're missing out. I have Pandemic as well as Pandemic: Legacy Season 1, and playing the Legacy campaign version was a fucking AMAZING experience. I got about a year and a half of Pandemic: Legacy Season 1 play experiences and my friends and I have some very meaningful and lasting memories of it.
+onlythistube I've had the game for a year now with about a half-dozen plays. Still haven't put on a single sticker lol. :) You just don't need to, honestly.
To those concerned about the stickers... One idea is to stick them on cardstock, cut them out, and paper clip them onto your sheet. That way you can reuse them.
Love these reviews with Zee! Two commenters giving their view points on the one game is so much better.
This is my birthday present game to myself... can't wait to play it! :D
whilst i havent played the rpg myself, i know the lore/universe
think magic + tech in an extremely corrupt city, one that makes detroit look like a utopia
Lone star = cops
Adepts = D&D beserkers/musclemen
Shaman = conjurer + spirit channeler
Rigger - Engineer
Decker - Hacker but like the matrix, if they die in the hack, they die outside the hack
love this game
Excellent review! I'll be adding this to the growing collection : )
When you said face role I though "face roll" and imagined an evasive maneuver in the form of slamming you face into the concrete and falling over.
Amelia Gryffon hahahaha

Mathew Utting Well you can make the the stickers into magnets. If not have a character sheet.
I agree. It don't really lend itself to the whole "Legacy" style gameplay that they're trying to borrow from with permanent changes to the material, and that added "bonus" of hindering second hand resaleability. Photocopy the sticker sheet, cut them out and use blu-tac.
Job done
I did that.

couple of blasphemers how come they haven't heard of Shadowrun :)
Good review guys, I love Shadowrun and I'm thinking of buying it.

was hoping for a short comparisson to Pathfinder adventure card game.

Glares I put the character cards in sleeves then i mark the sleeves with a permanent marker. Not sure how i will go about this game yet

All you have to do is use some nookbook paper and a pen and write down what you buy with the karma you get
You are right... lost me with the stickers immediately and completely. I just don't thinks this is an elegant mechanism.
+onlythistube I've had the game for a year now with about a half-dozen plays. Still haven't put on a single sticker lol. :) You just don't need to, honestly.
I'd rather see a new Battletech card game.
more ZEE!!!!
Co-op party = This or Legendary Aliens? Ugh. Opinions?
Aliens for atmosphere and theme, SC for braincrushing challenge.
Shadowrun Crossfire is completely broken and the worst game in my collection by far. Don't be fooled like I was.
Lol, you said /faceroll. hehe
Never played Shadowrun before?? Blasphemy!
Shut the door.
stopped the video right after hearing it's cooperative and deckbuilding, 2 mechanisms i have no interests for at all. moving along.
.... Man ya'll butchered the setting. It isn't post Apoc at all. LOL
Great game though.
Constructive Critique: I've watched some of your vids and the part where you dump out the components seems unnecessary.
