Together, their harmony was beautiful. And so many iconic songs. Thanks to all of you who have preserved some of PP&M's great performances.

Many moons ago when my daughter was 4 we took her to a PP&M concert and sat close to the front. At her age she didn't know audience etiquette and made a noise at an inappropriate time. Mary walked across the stage to be in front of her and talked to her so sweetly saying how glad she was that she was there. I think they started in small coffee shops in Greenwich Village, NYC where they were 6 feet from the audience. They never forgot how to connect. Even in a large renue it felt more like being in a living room with friends singing to you. Magical.

I saw them half-a-dozen times over the years, talked to them, joked with them and confessed (as l’m sure many others did) that l learned to sing in public and play guitar to cover their songs. I deeply respected the work they put into their art, as well as the activism and compassion their music engendered in all of us who listened. Blessings!

Sadly I never saw a concert, never mind talking to them. But like you I learned how to play guitar (especially fingerpick) by listening to their albums over and over. I was a typical high school coffee house singer (so to speak) during this era. Shout out to many others, e.g., James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan, CSN, etc.

One time in SF, we waited to get autographs after their concert (they always came out to give autographs to those who waited). The thrill of my lifetime, as a 10-year old, is when Mary said to my mother: "Don't I know you?" I still feel I am in that moment.

The one time I was going to get to see them live back in the late 80s Mary had to cancel being in the concert I think and just the guys performed. I don't remember if we weren't able to go or if we just did not go because of knowing the info ahead of time she would not be there. Wish I could have seen them live in the 80s some other time. At least we have this and their 25th anniversary special and other concerts to remember them by on video. This one I saw in the United States on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel back in 1980 when I was 9. It was what made me a fan of their music.

I Have adored them for sixty some years . I first heard them when I was visiting my sister at William Woods college in Fulton, MO. Her suite mate had their first album, Peter, Paul and Mary, in 1962. I went nuts for them as I had already become a folk singing guitar player. The minute I got back home to KC, MO, I bought the album. I was a freshman in high school. I am now 76 and I am unable to play guitar anymore, but I love them every bit as much as when I was 12 . That is at 64 years of love for them, their😢 music and😮most importantly, their message!😂❤&😊 ❤ RIP DEAR MARY! 😢

Boy Rosa, you are not kidding. This is a great rendition of a PP & M performance. The subtitles are a little annoying but the quality of audio and video are excellent for 1980 (the year my second son was born and is now 40). Back then the resolution would have been 720p or even 480p which wasn't great. This performance is one of their best. They seem relaxed. I love all the closeup shots...they were in their prime and as Dylan might say, they knew their songs well before they started singing, They were so attractive at this point in their lives (not meant to be in comparison to any other times). Good for them that they found the right combination of personas and talent back in '61.
You look at the folks in the audience and like most of PP & M's performances you see that they were enthralled and familiar with the songs. A standing ovation for Blowing In The Wind. I have to wonder how with all that promise of a gentler world and peace, love and such, that our world reversed its evolutionary path towards being more enlightened and informed and instead has shifted into anger, resentment, fear and dissatisfaction. Oh, and don't forget delusion.
The last time our country (US) was this bad, was in the mid to late sixties and these guys were actively participating in the civil rights movement and in the protests against the war in Vietnam, and there were these assassinations. Those were terrible times and they sang a song about it: Wasn't that a time"
One verse sticks in my mind:
The wars are long, the peace is frail, the madmen come again.
There is no freedom in a land where fear and hate prevail.
    Isn't this a time, isn't this a time?
A time to try the soul of men,
    Isn't this a terrible time?
How crappy that we have to go through these cycles of growth and decline. Hoping for the best come November.

You made me look up that song, which I had never heard of... It's in my playlist now! Creepy how VERY applicable it is once again! One can only hope the cycles will get quicker and keep rising stubbornly higher - it's harder to tell when you're in one. Pray...

@@LLewis-vu9qfThe sixties were bad times in a lot of ways, comparable to nowadays. I say what happened in the sixties is relevant speaking as an optimist because we got thru all that but now these are bad times, right up to today.
I have no idea who might read this reply but Biden is President Elect and Warnock and Ossoff are down in Georgia, GEORGIA of all places, running for the Senate and if they both win after the sixth, McConnell will be out of power and I want to believe that will be the start of better times.
PP and M covered a song entitled Carry On Sweet Survivor about all the folks who had hope and faith in the possibility of better times. Just thought I would mention that.

@@murderhill1947 I have 2 versions of that - one with just Peter on guitar with his daughter Bethany, and also the one off the album. Very touching in different ways. Oh, but have you heard "Greenwood"? It affects me much the same way as "Wasn't That a Time". Neck-hair raising. Sometimes you feel like they're shouting into the wind and those in power are deaf to hear the prophets... at what cost I guess we'll find out. I'm hoping we can avert the bad times, but there are a lot of frustrated people in pain right now, and they want to blame that on someone.

    • @murderhill1947
