Thanks for doing these vids I just started yr 11 and my teacher expects me to get a 7 in this. I understand little things, here and there, but ur vids just make it so much easier to learn the content than to read through 300 pages 😂
My belief is the A/LU is written this way because this part of the chip performs two functions: arithmetic and logical computations. Arithmetic will perform math equations (not in the sense of using a calculator). The logical will perform if/then/else statements.

With regards to the Von Neuman bottleneck, is there any way to increase the bus/wire efficiency or speed? Is there a limit to this? As everything else improves with technology memory, CPU (ALU, CU) is this (wire speed) going to be a limiting factor in this architecture? Thanks.
would making notes on all of these videos be helpful as well whilst watching them? Computer Science exam on Monday and it's currently 13:30 on the Saturday! Need to cram!
Many Thanks! also, have you got any videos on writing psuedocode? it's my Achilles heel!! (haven't looked through all your videos yet so apologies if I'm just being lazy)
Everybody who has an upcoming test. You, yes you: To begin with, I am wishing you all the best, believe in yourself, you can do this! Very good luck, and I hope that you (yes you) will smash Computer Science GCSE.
So the other answer isn't quite right - the cache and registers are two separate things. Registers are very small bits of memory (maybe 64 bits in size and maybe there'll only be ~30/40 in total) that are on the CPU. Cache may or may not be on the CPU but they're still small compared to RAM, but larger than registers (slower too). Both are used instead of having to go to RAM constantly (as they are both fast). Think of it as registers store data used in one clock cycle, whereas cache for maybe 100 clock cycles. Have a look at the playlist on my channel for your exam board to see if you need to know about the special-purpose registers and/or L1, L2 cache - otherwise, don't worry about them more than what I've said
Thanks man, I have an exam tomorrow this helps D: I completely forgot. I'm probably screwed… Anyway time for ritalin coffee and a whole lot of studying.
Hey on my exam sheet it says the board is WJEC/GCSE is this the right playlist for me? i have 0 revision and need to past badly. exam is on monday... any hope? lol
There's a WJEC specific one on my channel but it's incomplete atm unfortunately - it covers the key things but some specifics are missing, so please look at the specification to see what's missing and try and go over that. Definitely still hope!

+AgentB 13 sorry, I probably know way less about the NEA than you! I’ll try to familiarise myself with it after I finish the exam content but that won’t be for a while. Test plans aren’t too bad, see if you can find some templates online. Hope it goes well!
The NEA is dependent on what language you learnt in school. I learnt Python (along with most schools), though C family languages and other OOPs and High level languages are taught. Therefore, it is pretty difficult to teach the NEA

We have already done the exam mate, long before 4 days ago -
Do we need to know about the involvement of the program counter, MAR and MDR in the fetch - execute cycle?
Depends what exam board you're doing - if you do (like for OCR) then the next video in the playlist should explain their roles
Computer Science Tutor thank you 😊
2:36 so whats in the registers? Is it l1 cache l2 cache or mar and mdr. Pls reply cus i have no clue
The register is all the levels of cache as cache is what is on the CPU, as for mar and mdr they are also in the register
