  • A thorough knowledge of mandibular movements is essential to plan teeth arrangement and articulator selection so that artificial prosthesis is in harmony with stomatognathic system. This video describes the rotational, translational, functional and mandibular movements with teeth contact. Hinge movement is a purely rotational movement of the joint. Translation occurs when the mandible moves forward during protrusion. The teeth, condyles and rami move in the same direction and same degree. Intra border movements occur within the envelope of motion. They are of two types: namely functional and para-functional.
