    The Baltic states, and especially Latvia and Estonia, are unique and separate cultures that have very little to do with Russia or Russian history, other than what was forced upon them by Soviet and Russian Empire "Russification" attempts. Lithuania is closer to Poland than it is to Russia in culture. I lived in Latvia in 2003-04, and except for Riga and a few of the communities that have large ethnic Russian populations on the Russian border, Latvian folks I knew there are nothing like the Russians I've met when I lived in Russia. The Latvian language isn't even related to Slavic languages like Russian is and is a bit more like German in that regard, but of an Indo-European origin.
    It is a total shame what Stalin and subsequent Soviet leaders did to Latvia and the other Baltic countries, exploiting resources and treating the land there like a toxic dump. Latvia still has scars from the Soviet era to this day, like Soviet style urban blight, poor infrastructure and design left behind and severe effects of pollution that was endemic in many Soviet satellite states. Russians treated Latvia like a dump, and except for the resorts like Jurmala and the beaches of Vecaki of coastal Latvia, which Russians exploited right up until the Russo-Ukrainian War caused Latvia to block Russians from freely entering Latvia, Russians have been a pest that Latvia just can't seem to rid itself of, like cockroaches that become resistant to even the strongest pesticides. Russian neighborhoods of Riga like Purvciems and Vecmilgravis are actually more like ghettos and slums, at least they were when I lived in Riga. I've lived in many countries over the years, even in Russia and Ukraine for years at a time as an English teacher, and the saddest of all those examples was how Russians used up and abused the non-Russian country states of the Soviet Union and mistreated the native populations therein.
    Russia should keep away from the Baltic countries and Ukraine. Hasn't the world seen enough of Russo-centric ethnic cleansing?

    • @gintasvilkelis2544

      Lithuanian culture is just as unique and separate from Russian as are Latvian and Estonian.
      Lithuanian and Latvian languages are the two surviving Baltic languages, while Estonian language is an Ugro-Finish language that's closely related to the Finnish language.

    • @jasonyoung3690
      @jasonyoung3690 Месяц назад +5

      @@gintasvilkelis2544 I never said that Lithuanian culture wasn't distinct, my point is that Poland and Lithuania at one time were historically almost interchangeable as a people. Yes, there were distinct language and cultural differences in ethnicity, but the political borders and class structure was fairly common between these peoples, and the two countries were at one time a combined nation, and it was all called Lithuania at one time, inclusive of most of Poland, Northwestern Ukraine and all of what is now Lithuania. In this regard, none of them were all that related to Russia. My main point is that Russia has always been the neighborhood bully in every regard, trying to steal land, incorporate lands into both the Russian and Soviet Empires, "Russify" and subjugate peoples that were not ethnically Russian. All of these nations were distinct and separate communities from Russia, except for the subjugation that was forced upon them by this bully state of Tsarist and Soviet Russia.

    • @gintasvilkelis2544
      @gintasvilkelis2544 Месяц назад +13

      @@jasonyoung3690 As a Lithuanian, I can tell you that the fact that before 1795 Poland and Lithuania had spent a significant amount of time in the form of a single political entity, does not make Lithuanian culture or language "similar to Polish", just like Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland having been under Russian occupation during the whole of the 19th century and more than half of the 20th century, does not make cultures of any of those countries "similar to Russian". Given the copious highly-repulsive attributes of the Russian culture, there was never any temptation in any of those cultures to become "more Russian-like".
      Belorussians, on the other hand, did indeed lose most of their unique enthnic identity to Russification - in part because their language happened to be the closest of all Eastern Slavic languages to Russian.
      But your main point is right: Russia has always been the neighborhood bully in every regard; and they still haven't "grown out of it" yet.

Prosperity, freedom and opportunity have taken root, while Ruzzia has been exposed as an oppressed impoverished shithole country. It's EU expansion, not NATO, that Putler fears most, and why he invaded Georgia and Ukraine. This video ignores some crucial things. Also some annoyances.
    First and foremost: its been 33 bloody years! Enough with "formerly soviet" bs! Its already same as calling USA a former british colony! It may be correct, but why would you refer to USA a former british colony every time you mention them?
    Second: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are NATO. Sure, you aknowledge it when talking about borders and article 5, but there is that "junior partner" vibe when explaining how we have integrated and are joining NATO. Its been 20 years. Meaning- ruzzia would not shorten its borders, if it invades us. They would not be able to put it to "just suwalki and sea". Additionally, even assuming they win (fat chance btw), they would not be able to hold us. We fought decades worth of guerilla war without any supplies against ussr, when it was much stronger. We now have know-how, supplies and preparation. Additionally, even conventionally, our forces do have enough skill and knowledge to keep ruzzia at bay, albeit with a great cost while allies break through the ruzzian lines.
    Third: You overestimate ruzzia, underestimate Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, but also Finland, Sweden and Poland. You also overestimate belarusian people's willingness to fight for ruzzia- there is a big reason why Belarus has not joined ruzzia on invasion. ruzzia currently has barely enough logistical strength to keep fighting in Ukraine and to amass enough troops to even have chance at invasion of baltics- even under assumption that rest of NATO will not join in (Finland, Sweden and Poland would 100%, USA and UK as well- if not for anything else, sheer prestige would not allow them to sit it out), ruzzia would need lot more troops to invade us. And this buildup would take a while- enough for NATO allies to deploy even more troops here and even more in europe in general.
    Fourth: putler is already probing us. For decades, even. First ever nation-wide cyber attack in world was in 2007 Estonia.. by ruzzia. This followed bronze night riots, which was also ruzzian attempt to undermine Estonia, to see if they can maybe pry then-fresh NATO member out. They failed.

The western plan is to keep russia pushing thats why America wont give permission to use ATACMs against russian air bases. They dont want russia to stop. This is brilliant in Realpolitik terms. Putin gave the west a neutral territory bigger than any eu country and 40 million people to fund and arm against them. Is it horrible for Ukraine? Absolutely, but draining russian finances, equipment, manpower, it's massive Soviet stockpiles in a controlled contained manner is the safest ans cheapest way for the world to end the russian threat.
      Don't believe me? Almost every western system, aid, loosened restriction has come in response to russia gaining an advantage. Sending in huge columns of armor? Give them Javalins. Artillery barraging across the country? Give Himars so no serious supply dumps can be near the front. Huge russian missle attacks on cities? Send in Patriots. Russians adapting to Himars range? Send atacms. Russian air force becoming a serious problem? Send in F-16s. Russia massing an army literally 2 miles over the border thinking its safe? Let them HIMARS on russian territory.

So it really is safer for Russia to keep Baltic states as economic ally for Baltic sea trade routes as was before Ukraine excursion. Russia still has Caspian sea, Black sea and Nordic naval routes available that would be cut if it becomes excessively hostile, as would be Denmark-Sweden corridor so additional Baltic excursion is not economically feasible. Besides looking at map Poland is one actually under the sword with the shortest route being Grodna-Suvalki-Gusev, though terrain is atrocious for fast land attack.

    The same go for Russia Navy.
    Air and water will be under total control after less than a week, and then NATO use its massive land force to push Russia back.
    There artillery won't help them a bit. With total air control and long range like HIMARS and beyond, it will become a duck shooting.
    The only think what Russia makes dangerous are her nukes.
    But what the actual state of these weapons which needs highly qualified maintenance. But spare parts and other components are extremely expensive. Tritium alone costs 30,000 Dollar per gram.
    What if they have water than rocket fuel like in China.
    And 30,000 Dollar per gram for something that will never be used, will never be discovered, and if, if nukes are flying, it will no longer matter.

    The thing with small operations in Baltic is that article 5 enables countries to enter the war. Your analysis misses the fact that Poland is even more militaristic towards Russia than the Baltic states. So, an attack on Baltics, would definitely trigger Poland entering the war. Poland then domino effect will start.
    In addition, your analysis is just bad in general. There are troops stationed in Baltics from USA, Germany and other nations. It would make political situation extremely tricky for them not to use troops in a country which it vowed to defend with troops already stationed there. Even then, what USA would do if German troops engage in combat? Their allies just chilling while other nations are fighting? Such actions behavior is incomprehensible in a modern world.

    Uff... Honestly, if even the US refuses to respond to Article 5, I'd imagine NATO would be either as good as dissolved or the US would basically be kicked off NATO. The US is the only one who invoked it beforehand and got support. If they chose not to respond to an attack on the Baltics, there would be no reason for any country to ever respond to another request from the US, because they would think that the US has no intention of keeping up their end of the deal. While Russia or China would never attack the US directly, it could signal to both that any and all interests outside of US soil are fair game, as nobody would assist the US in defending them. Destroy the military base of the US and that's done. The US is then faced with either retaliating half away across the world (which if they did not respond to article 5 for similar reasons they would likely just write off) with no logistical support from any of the other NATO countries other than the one directly targeted.
