Good idea or Useless?

- I have been pitching the idea of expandable boards to companies for years and nobody saw the point, but one company finally had the same idea and did it extremely well.

Just stopped by to say: that crispy and smooth close up b-roll tho!!!!! 🤘 Hell yeah! 🔥
Nice take as always, Henning. That's actually not a bad price for a really clever idea. I'm sure I'm not alone in hitting the buffers where pedal combinations don't quite fit on standard boards. This isn't something I need right now, but it's genuinely useful to know the option is out there.
The bigger pedal board is my favorite. It is expensive, but it is in a high quality and I like the flexibility. I think this could be my next pedal board... 🤘
These shots just are blowing my mind!!!
I love the little one which I can set to fit in a 19" rack beneath my desk - if only it was a bit higher, it would fit more types of power supplies underneath it. Was glad to not pay for a case which I don't need.
I have both the big and small ones. I really dig them. I didn’t get cases for either one yet as I did cough at the cost of the cases but I may if I start lugging them around. Right now they are just being used at home. I thought the price for just the board part was pretty reasonable. The cases I wish were cheaper
Dammit Henning, I thought you were going to tear this apart so I wouldn't want it. Obviously the idea is great, but I'm glad the execution and build quality is there. Especially like the cable management pieces! Realistically I think I would start with the small one because I like piecing together little boards for jams with friends, BUT if I decide that I am changing my big board more, i will consider the biggie. I scored a deal during lockdown on a PT Pro with soft case so I don't have much reason to change.
That being said, once again, I looove the cable management that I don't have with my PTs. Shit.... I want the little one at least :D
I love those widi bluetooth thingys. I bought one back when I had a Boss GT1000CORE and it allowed me to control it with my ipad. (the GT1000 has BT, the CORE doesn't)
Definitely will be buying the bigger board in the future.
Running out of room on my current one.
Those closeup shots! Nice :)
I'm not seeing the price being very far off. Large board and case are a little over $300. Friedman board kits (can't get full kits anymore) were $300+ IIRC. I recently bought a HoleyBoard kit for $200 and while it's expandable it takes considerably more effort to change.
I also don't like velcro on my boards. After fighting pedals falling off my board for years i switched to dual lock and haven't looked back.
That set up is a thing of beauty
The shirt has to be your best yet
We do need this 😄!
Brilliant !!!
Got curious about the plethora x3 cause i had only heard about the x5 model. And it seems the x3 has a built in tuner? So no need for a dedicated tuner on the board then? :D
I made a pedal board out of wood to work with 4 cable method. I have these TRS female/female couplers on the board so that all 4 cables from a snake go into the board in the same spot. If I were to swtich to something like this I'd have to do something similar or I'd have to cut back the cable snake sheathing so the cables could go to 4 different places on the board.
I am not a pedal hoarder, so I chose the Palmer 60 with bag included. Done.
I like the expansion option from D'Addario, but paying like €150 more for both board and case is bit too steep for me.
Will the velcro hold a DC7 over time? Anytime I've velcro'd a power supply, including my old Cioks DC5 under a board, the glue would eventually pull loose from gravity and the power supply would fall off.
Can we burn it this Winter to heat the house, the packaging I am talking about.😂
Great content as usual... Henning, have you checked out Jim Lil? Dude just made a video in which he made a tackle box sound like a Marshall, a Vox , and a fender...😂 a freakin’ tackle box...
Hiya H would have been handy a wee pocket in bag for fork lift truck to lift full board. 😂😂😂😂👍👍🥃Respect to you mate.
The big one , that’s a real board , I have a board the size of the big one , but no slide out , mine is still to small
Does it have hidden compartment? Good idea if so❤Just what I am looking for, small board, and monster jumbo case as big as a semi truck. Call it Billy Big Rigger😂
I know it 7 months ago Hi if you cen answer this question it would be Great as don't no Bugera amp at all but cen I put a Bugera 333XL Infinium or drop the output of amplifier head below 120 watt output to Compensate for the 100w output of Laney Cub-212 Cabinet if not cen i use a Bugera PS1 Power Soak Power Attenuator I like to keep them all the same for the amplifier cen you let me no please as I bought a Laney Cub-212 not long ago from Thomann hope you I hear back if have time OK
The Daddario expandable board is excellent - I have a small one.
It's a really cool design. But for me, i prefer a double layer model. My Nux bumblebee-L is perfect. Small enough to travel with and enough real estate for more pedals than i ever need. I don't use too many pedals on stage though.
I like it! soooo done with PedalTrain... I had a PT bag zippers fail the first use and they told me to pound sand. So I'll be looking at EVERYBODY else....
I sure do enjoy a good pedalboard video. I desperately want a schmidt array but I'm looking at $1100 for what I need.
Henning, I know you've also been using evidence SIS cables for a long time. How do these cables compare?
I would say they are similar... SIS are harder to put together, but possibly have a better connection... but the cables are less bendy.... personally I'd use the Daddario
Since all musicians are rich why should price matter, yeh , actually when you think of the quality of build & lasting a long time & versatility the price seems more reasonable
Maybe off topic, but who is the band playing in your assembly videos?
all my stuff
@@EytschPi42 I really enjoyed that. Good rockin music.
Are you planing a mission to mars , that could control it
Does anyone know, in small version, does the small pedalboard fit into a nano case?
You could look up the dimensions of the boards on the internet and confront them
@@kainagami actually you're dead right. Sorry it was a lazy question to be fair!
Can you also make a review video of the Sawtooth Heritage 7-string guitar?
sure... tell them to contact me
That's the Michael Angelo Batio brand, isn't it?
Has Henning ever done something from them ...has anybody?
I think I've never seen any demo other than from Batio himself.
@@DerEchteBold there is only one channel besides MAB that bought this guitar and made an unboxing video. To them it was all ‘oohs and aahs’ ruclips.net/video/7CLgs00pER8/видео.html
Ok, D'Addario you need to look beyond your worries about critique and opinion and be confident in the quality of your product. I have been wanting to buy it. Keep reading D'Addario.
Thank you, Henning, there is no product reviewer like you, you are as refined as they come. I don't want to buy crap and I don't want to try every piece of gear out there. You address the obvious, you expand into experience and practice, which equals refinement.
Now if only D'Addario would read this.
Yeah man. People already have their own screwdrivers, and cutters.
A board could be designed with separate parts that you could extend and if you want create separate tiers. It could hold perhaps 6 pedals in its smallest form or even a hundred by extending both in latitude and vertically. It could be designed to fasten together using easy to source nuts and bolts that are replaceable at Home Depot or equivalent. Rubber washers could be common size tap washers. Feet would use standard size ones used for amps & cabs. In short with very little pricey specialized parts simply small metal panels. The maker would never run out of buyers.
09:28 - I think now you completely lost it 😂
That Hugh Jass pedalboard, and no room for a tuner?? Hah
Personally I don’t need this. My pedalboard is set. I only own 5 pedals. It’s all I need. For somebody that owns a ton of pedals it makes sense. It’s pretty cool.
Two cents? Adjusted for inflation I assume? That part took up well over a third of the entire video. Seemed more like 5 or 6 cents.
Loved the video. Loved the concept. Love your work. To each their own of course but pretty meh to me and the cost.... Hard pass.
Like you said expensive but......
Holeyboard pedalboards have been doing this for years.
It’s not to expensive when you consider the price of smaller boards
I know it 7 months ago did the fix the problem with the line out and are new stock available from Thomann ready to go with no problems
Harley Benton PA-250 Power Attenuator great full if you cen back to me with answer before I buy one thank you
19:54 I wiggle mine alot :)
Seems like a decent idea I guess but once you start stressing the high price from the beginning of the video- I already know it's not for me. It makes no sense to spend huge money on some fancy pedal board all so you can jam in the bedroom- which is all I do anymore. I'm sure it's a great solution for guys who are still gigging though.
Back with D'addario eh?
not really…. by it I am open
The concept is okay if you don't want to dismantle a board to use the same pedals in a bigger/smaller board set-up. The drawbacks for me are that:
1) The board still has to have the patch cables & power ready for an expansion, even when not in use, if you are using different size boards in different circumstances/gigs.
2) Unless you have the pedals already with you, you can't just increse the size of the pedal board quickly while on the road. Since you are already carrying the pedals, why not leave them on a larger board?
The only real advantage is for those who don't have many pedals yet and don't want to buy a bigger board when they do have more.
Yes, you could put them all on one board and just leave it be but- now you've got a lot of impedance between you and the amp or- you've had to add solutions- buffers, noise gates, possibly shielding, etc. Much easier to just use a smaller board and now you don't need buffers, you don't need a noise gate, and you usually don't require any shielding. Not to mention that now when I look down during a live show I'm not like "Now where's that reverb pedal again..." I know exactly where it is because there's only between 4-6 pedals on my board at any one time.
Also- no idea why but fans don't like to see someone with 30 pedals arrayed out in front of them- it gives them the impression that you need technology to prop up your playing. I know that's a bit silly but it's true- I've heard multiple fans talk about it, multiple times, at different shows. When I'm setting up my gear on stage- we don't have roadies, we're not that good- I always listen to the ppl closest to the stage- they're usually talking loudly because it's crowded, they want to hear one another- so if you just try a little you can hear their conversation. Several different times that conversation was about how many pedals I was using, and the prevailing consensus was that too many pedals equal someone trying to fake it. Now I disagree completely but- it's about the fans- right? If they want raw, unproduced, rock and roll then that's what we tried to give them. BY the time I stopped gigging I had I think 3 pedals- boost, reverb, and delay. Occasionally I would sneak in a wah though that was a multi effect pedal- sneaky. The Boss PW-10 V-Wah modeling pedal- it's an amazing pedal man- does so much.
Good stuff costs money. Sadly more money now because of our politicians. But if you want something nice, you're going to pay for it. The worlds falling apart and you can't take it with you, so spend the money and enjoy life I say.
lame math joke incoming: actually only the bag comes in a prime price henning....you can divide 189 by 3 muahuahuahuahua
