I used to take care of a baby woodpecker. I somehow taught it to fly by a miracle and one day it flew away. It still comes back once in a while and I leave some fruit out for it.😊🐦
you were successful and did well. Not too many hand fed birds survive after they are released because most people do not know how to raise them according to their species and know little on rehabilitating them back into the wild so they can survive on their own. Plus the people that raise them can never be true substitute for their parents, teaching them their particular songs and calls of their regions, and social habits and etc. the avian world is actually a lot more complicated than one thinks. ;-)
What a GORGEOUS little girl... I think she will grow up to be one... very talkative, let's hope she grows out of that, LOL. GREAT POST! Thank you so much!
What a beautiful story in the description. I'm sure it must have been emotional that he stopped coming back, but you know this was because you all did such an amazing job so that he could go back to the wild healthy and start a brood of his own. Lovely people.
I had a crow as a kid when I was very young. That guy rivals any dog ive ever owned, im waiting for the day another decides to be my friend.. Extremely intelligent animals. Mine could say good morning and good night, and knew key words from my favorite story book.
I can say the same for my first pet pigeon who understood over 20 words and phrases. Most people have no idea of how smart certain birds are. @@scumbaggo
He is soo cute and loves to talk, your soo lucky to have had a chance to raise the little guy til he could fly away. I love birds and i have feeders and bird baths in my yard for them.
Looks like a baby northern flicker. They're easier to hand feed when they're fledglings.they trust a lot quicker. I've been feeding a red bellied woodpecker for the past year. If you have a handful of mealworms or peanuts it won't take long till theyre pecking at your back door at 6am.
Woodpeckers are noisy in several ways. Some species have real loud calls. In spring they search something to drum on, imagine the bird jackhammering some piece of thin sheet metal (like post cap). That can echo for a good kilometer or more.
I think that is a baby Northern Flicker in your hand. How cool. From their markings, I think they are somehow related to the Blue Jays. I love the sounds he makes when he eats. Nature is wonderful, no?
How cute is that! I can't believe how noisy he/she is. I have 3 of them around our house. They come every day to eat suet cake. They are so beautiful birds.
That's good but daaaaang bro! Your deck is so huge and neat looking and your yard looks like a gulf coarse! Also the area looks pretty high class. Must be pretty cool to live there.
Aww I had hand raised an infant starling from a freshly hatched baby to an adult. She had fallen out of herMomma's nest that was in the waves of my house. I couldn't put her back. When she got big enough, I'd take her outside and dig at the dirt with my fingers to stir up the bugs and she would go for them eagerly lol. Piglet, as she was named, was successfully reintroduced into the wild and I would see little flocks of Starlings everyday for the longest time eating the dog food that was left outside for my pit boxer, Trooper. See, the food that the Internet had told me to use for her was dog or cat food, I can't remember which, and applesauce. So, she taught the other Starlings that this stuff was edible and apparently awesome lol. It was very neat and very rewarding.
+Dessi Hall I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but unless you live in Europe, you shouldn't be caring for starlings. They are the most destructive invasive birds in North America and as far as I know, every state will let you take these birds at any time and in any way.
+Dessi Hall What happened to Piglet? Did she pass? how old? did she attempt to fly away outside or did she follow you? I have a Sparrow, raised from a few days after hatch and now 2 years old.
Very cool, it reminds me when I had a pet crow growing up. He loved wet dog food and we could call him or tap on the can and he would land on your shoulder to eat. Have you seen male flickers fencing? Someday, I'll post all the different fencing matches I have.
i found an abondoned woodpecker ive been taking care of him hes very small and looks like woody the woodpecker lol hes hes tame and has made friends with my cockatiel green cheak conure and sun conure
It's a juvenile Northern Flicker, and is probably calling for it's parents. Doesn't seem to be injured. While a great experience for the person, it belongs in the wild.
I have Redbellied woodpecker, that I call my boy. He brings his babies to feed in my trees & we chuk chuk chuk back & forth. I also have mourning doves that return every year, to my air conditioner, to have their broods. I call them my babies (but never interfere). My chickadees will handfeed, but I keep an open hand & never try to hold them. I do however call to them & all 'my' birds call to me for food, or as soon as they see me start chatting to me. 'My' robins sit at my kitchen window for their grapes. I recently saved an unknown olive green bird that hit my window. However, here on Long Island, you must contact a licensed rehabber. I would hope that anyone seeing her 'pet' will know who to contact to rehab an injured or orphaned bird. Wild birds, wild animals belong free in the wild. 🦋🦋🦋
I almost had the opportunity to care for an injured one but he recovered fast enough that I just let it go but I was wondering if this thing ever tried to pack it you how bad would that hurt
i just found a fledgling flicker in my yard i think it's parents kicked it out it has 1 broke leg what i can tell since it's not moving it and hobbling around so i got it in a bucket with straw what i wanna know is how to feed it..????
It sounds like an old printer when it "chirps," haha! Very cool, though.

Hey that’s right!
Ahh, dot-matrix days....
Yes
Hahaha! You're so right! 🖨️

Jacob Stackable woodpeckers like many other birds main sources of food includes but is not limited to fruit.
He's so talkative!
Woodpecker “ nice place you got here. Love the wooden deck!”
He's a yellow shafted northern flicker.
Yep. He's male too, as you can see by his malar stripe
flicker or woodpecker same thing
방혜연
Flicker is a type of woodpecker.
+cookode I know.
cookode - Ah! I knew the name, it was on the tip of my tongue...
Thanks!
What a GORGEOUS little girl... I think she will grow up to be one... very talkative, let's hope she grows out of that, LOL.
GREAT POST! Thank you so much!
This one is a male because of the mustache on his face next to his beak
love the noise it makes when eating lol
I LOVE THE NOISES IT MAKES WHEN IT EATS ITS SO FUNNY XD

A beautiful Northern Flicker. Lucky bird!
What a beautiful story in the description. I'm sure it must have been emotional that he stopped coming back, but you know this was because you all did such an amazing job so that he could go back to the wild healthy and start a brood of his own. Lovely people.
I don't know why, but it seems like hand raised wild birds make the most wonderful, loyal pets!

Sooooo precious! I love woodpeckers! He's such a chatty little fellow. Cutie pie!
What's your favorite bird
Yellow cardinal
Red cardinal
Crowe
Blue jay
Wood pecker
Parrot
Crane
Goose
Flamingos
Bald eagle
I love how he looks right at you when he chirps. He's saying something important, but unfortunately he's a bird.
Looks like a baby northern flicker. They're easier to hand feed when they're fledglings.they trust a lot quicker. I've been feeding a red bellied woodpecker for the past year. If you have a handful of mealworms or peanuts it won't take long till theyre pecking at your back door at 6am.
Hahahaha!!! I imagine not. Those are two foods which are beloved by red bellied woodpeckers. They also love suet. Have you tried feeding that?
***** oh yes, they love peanut suet, especially the pileated woodpeckers. I'd like to learn how to make my own. It would be much cheaper that way.
+steph, you can find recipes online! :). You could even add mealworms. They love those too! : P
talkative little guy! I’ve never seen a bird make so much noise! at least it’s cute!
Woodpeckers are noisy in several ways. Some species have real loud calls. In spring they search something to drum on, imagine the bird jackhammering some piece of thin sheet metal (like post cap). That can echo for a good kilometer or more.
That "woodpecker" appears to be a Northern Flicker, but to your credit, the flickers and woodpeckers do share a taxonomic family - Picidae.
Flickers ARE a woodpecker.
EngelSpiel this is a Northern Flicker, yet they are of the same family.
By bird law you are correct
What a beautiful Northern Flicker!
Uber cool! I love hearing them drum. Glad he'she is back in the wild.
It's great that this bird got help and then went about having a normal life as a bird again.
That is so cute! Good for you for rearing this little darling!
Beautiful northern flicker
Noisy little guy. But sure cute!
I think that is a baby Northern Flicker in your hand. How cool. From their markings, I think they are somehow related to the Blue Jays. I love the sounds he makes when he eats. Nature is wonderful, no?
so cool, and the noise it makes is funny. could be used for an alarm clock!
It would make me get up. And then I'd try not to destroy the alarm clock with a sledge hammer. Lol
Beautiful yard
How cute is that! I can't believe how noisy he/she is. I have 3 of them around our house. They come every day to eat suet cake. They are so beautiful birds.
Average life span for a Woodpecker is 4-12 years. This video is 12 years old meaning if he's still alive that Woodpecker is an old man now.
Wow..how rare for this to happen. You were very lucky to have experienced this, especially with this species of bird,
Just when you thought you have seen all kinds of pets here comes a pet woodpecker . Nice Job RUclips 👍🙏
Awww what a cute little doggy. He looks so small and birdish.
What's his name? Woody? He sounds so funny when he eats. It's like he's going "Yummy yummy yummy yummy yummy." Cute but noisey.
What a beauty he is! It’s a male northern flicker, and they’re usually found up north. Which stands in they’re name.
Cute Birdie! Very TENDERS!!!!
That's good but daaaaang bro! Your deck is so huge and neat looking and your yard looks like a gulf coarse! Also the area looks pretty high class. Must be pretty cool to live there.
Here in Texas you can have a pet Peckerwood. They are messy, but with proper training they can be allowed in the house on occasion.
Lovely bird
He so handsome

Very cool, it reminds me when I had a pet crow growing up. He loved wet dog food and we could call him or tap on the can and he would land on your shoulder to eat.

What are you feeding him?
that sound it makes when its eating lol 😅😂😂😂😂
With kindness and of course food, you can tame almost anything!......Except of course the human female.
lmao
*Cough cough* Sorry that we're animal that can be easily tamed
John Farque I didn't know you could tame humans XD
Julia Crawford humans are too intelligent and selfish. :/
go back to /r/incel
This is awesome!! What a little sweetie. You have a gorgeous backyard, btw.
Thats a very beautiful bird you have there (very noisy too, lol).
i instantly love you for doing this
He got a lot to say
I like how he hits warp speed when eating
Cute bird. Sounds like a yappy little dog.
has it been back
i love how it sounds like a little feathered chainsaw revving while it chatters
LOL it's funny how the wood pecker eats! O I'm dying and it sounds like the wood pecker is ckoking
I'm sure he means well, but that chirp is incessant.
Cutie ❤️

Great!
Btw I wanted to to ask you that do you know how to make SAFE Baby bird food at home?
It is a beautiful baby! What do you feed him/her?
so cute and chatty
It's a juvenile Northern Flicker, and is probably calling for it's parents. Doesn't seem to be injured. While a great experience for the person, it belongs in the wild.
Birds can socialize with humans, pet is not calling parents cause its parents are human
It's in the wild. Not caged
What they said that bird could leave her if it wanted to.
I have Redbellied woodpecker, that I call my boy. He brings his babies to feed in my trees & we chuk chuk chuk back & forth. I also have mourning doves that return every year, to my air conditioner, to have their broods. I call them my babies (but never interfere).

Noisy little guy
Cute flicker bird
wow what do they eat btw? i have a Dove... he eats grains
What you feeding him ..and ware to buy ..???
He was probably just a couple of days old, it had no feathers.
its a dog or bird? xD
what is the food for it?
He's obviously stressed out about the bills, the car note, rent, the russian neighbors and processed honey.
This is a Flicker, how young was it when if fell out of the tree? Did it have any feathers? Or was it 'naked'?
Actually, I think that's a Northern Flicker. Still a woodpecker though.
Sounds like a miniature chihuaua
he has a lot to say! :)
How are you two doing today 😀😀😀😀!
i just found a fledgling flicker in my yard i think it's parents kicked it out it has 1 broke leg what i can tell since it's not moving it and hobbling around so i got it in a bucket with straw what i wanna know is how to feed it..????
You can call yourself a "Wood Tamer".
didnt he fly away and never come back
Adorable😍
I dunno why but I've always wanted to pet a Woodpecker
Was he wild because he flew away?!?
Very cool
Those are usually very skittish around humans, you’re lucky!
