Custody Officers should be accessible to Defence Solicitors. Defence Solicitors should be able to make direct representations over a number of issues
- concerns over suspect treatment
- to take NFA
- level of charge
- to grant police bail
Some police stations I have attended access to the Custody Officer is v limited. But Defence Solicitors should insist on direct communication NOT via the OIC.
