This is so true hahah. What helps for me is to have clear rules and keep yourself to those rules. You can have strict rules and be chill and nice at the same time. Think of it as a way to protect your own borders, it's a mutual respect for each other :)
I remember having substitute teachers in school, and many of the kids acting terrible to them. But I didn’t and several others didn’t. It might help if you reward the good few, and the others might see it and change, without you having to fight to get them to listen to you.
I’m a dance teacher too and I absolutely hear you with finding that balance.
