Special thanks to the RUclips channel Classic Killer Instinct For allowing me to use some of their footage Игры
That intro was incredible with the NBA JAM Announcer.
Thanks, he is epic
Epic
Props to Tim. He still got it.
Heck yes!!!
Epic is all I can say, but now this voice clip needs to be in a NBA Jam cabinet somehow
If you're over a certain age and a gamer you've definitely said "C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!" at least once.
LOL Oh yes, my girlfriend at the time got really sick of it
My buddies and I used to say that when a chick wouldn't let us get "too far"....ccccombo breaker!
Eyedol's ending spoofing Blanka's will always be hilarious
LOL yes I shoould have mentioned that
Killer instinct is one of my favorite fighting games! Orchid, Combo, and Sabrewulf were my favorite characters.
I like playing a TJ combo as well. Honestly, there were a lot of good characters To play as
*SabreDoggo
Same here BUT Orchid hereself was NOT played by a female actress they actually hired a MAN to play the role in the first game at least.
@@veghesther3204 Yes Like I said, Kevin Bayless did the majority of the motion capture even attempting to wear high heels and walked like a woman.Since that wasn't convincing enough they did end up using a woman for the cut scenes for orchid
Killer Instincts was a banger on Super Nintendo
Still my favorite fighting game of all time. My dad used to take me and my bro to play it at the arcade and he always said, when this comes to Super Nintendo i’m getting it for sure. Well, one day we came home from school and my mom brought us to the basement to see my dad playing killer instinct on Nintendo and we went nuts. We played it all the time
That is so cool. I love hearing about families bonding over games. Assuring
If you have an Xbox One or a Series X/S console it's available with The premium version of Killer instinct comes with the OG arcade version.
Seeing this game in the arcade as a child was amazing....You will never get that vibe again... Also, Orchid was a certified Baddie!
I agree 100%….On both counts
Absolutely. I’ll never forget seeing some of those games like x-men children of the atom, mortal kombat 1 & 2 and killer instinct for the first time.
Best times of my life ... Orchid 💞💞
Sorry to Disappoint, but there is Grass on that "Playground"! :_(
Yeah, because none of us will ever be a child again. Much of nostalgia has little to do with what is actually being remembered and who we were at the time we are remembering what was happening.
Can’t believe it’s been almost 30 years since this was released. Arcade goers like myself were blown away when this dropped. The graphics, the gameplay and the SOUND. This game literally SHOOK the arcade floor with its Hollywood quality soundtrack, bass heavy hits and insane callouts. This game always drew a crowd.
Great video and wonderful synopsis as usual, Pat!
I remember how the SNES game came out on the first day of my freshman year in high school. I got through the day eagerly awaiting the game, and when I got home I finally found it there.
I got it too when it first came out, I believe 8th grade, me and some friends pre ordered it, I think the cartridge was black for the pre orders, awesome game though!
That's really cool, thank you for sharing
Yes certain copies were black
The on the fly audio eq'ing, although just for certain high pitched sounds and voice announcements to get the attention of everyone in the arcade was so clever and ahead of its time. This came way before games started having variable sound effects for punches and gunshots and menu sounds. Now the sound effects and music are taken for granted for the most part.
I couldn't agree more
The sound for this game was amazing. It was booming in every arcade. The music and the announcer were on point. This and Robocop had the best attract mode.
Oh yes, I couldn't agree more. Robocop did have a cool attract scene as well
One of my favorite arcade games of all time.
It's a lot of fun
Amazing work! Thanks for the shout out, glad to be a part of this!
No, thank you for sharing your footage. Hopefully my video can raise awareness for your Awesome channel
Thanks as always for the vid. Back in the day at the university arcade, there were two crowds: the Virtual Fighter 2 crowd, and the Killer Instinct one.
Thank you for watching. Lots of people around the cabinet here as well
Unforgettable and awesome game. Not only is the music awesome, but as someone said, the themes FIT the characters too. So many great things about this game, i am glad to know of its existence.
combo breaker!
You mean *C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!*
Man the arcade backgrounds still look amazing.
This was a great Arcade game back in the day. I remember this being at our local arcade back in the 90's. I really feel bad for the kids of today who never grew up in those arcades of yesterday. I am so glad I grew up in 80's and 90's era.
Yes, I tried to explain to my kids how cool they were. They got an idea of it when I took them to galloping ghost
Back during those early days of fighting games (hard to imagine there was a time the genre was new) this was one of my favorites. I got the Gameboy version as a gift and was amazed at how much it captured compared to the arcade and SNES originals. Very recently picked up an Xbox One and the reboot was an immediate purchase.
This brings back memories, with my best friend who passed away from cancer last December. He was a monster at this game, Getting High with the feeling.... RIP Ric my old friend! CCCC Combo breaker!
Thank you Patman for taking my mind off some problems for a while. You are the man
Anytime! You need to chat drop me a line.. I
Killer Instinct is one of my all-time favorite video games. I can still vividly remember the first time I saw it in the arcades - the stunning graphics, incredible music, and groundbreaking combos absolutely blew me away. I truly believe that Killer Instinct was a pioneer in introducing combos to fighting games. I even still have the soundtrack from the SNES version of the game.
Fantastic, it truly was jaw-dropping when he saw for the first time
Your best video yet Pat. Watched it all the way through and thumbs up for yhe algorithm. This channel deserves to go huuuuuge!
Wow, that's high praise. Thanks so much buddy I appreciate it
Amazing video Patman!! Thank you for your commitment to awesomeness!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the nice words
Thanks for the video, I was waiting for it and glad you finally made it.
Thanks for watching
Incredible job. This was such a groundbreaking and memorable title. I feel like it has aged rather well too
Congratulations. SUPREME! video, thanks for use a little part of my video memories of my channel. keep making this videos, are AWESOME!
You got ULTRA INSTINCT!!!
Arcade Challenger.
You've got a great channel so I appreciate that
I remember having the first installment on the SNES when I was a kid! Certain sound effects and music (especially the music of the end of match) actually scared the hell outta me! The same should be said for the visual effects when the losing character gets knocked out from the top of a building and it lands on the ground hearing that scary final piece of music!
When Big Patman's in the house....... You KNOW it's gonna be a SUPREME VICTORY!!!! PERFECT!!! 👍😁
LOL, that's fantastic. Thanks
There's something about the character select screen and music that was just scary. Even when you were putting in your high score. I remember Riptor and Sabrewulf being scary on their win screens. It's kinda wild all the blood Sabrewulf had in a Nintendo game.
Another great vid Pat!!! Keep 'em coming and I'll keep watching!!!
Thanks a lot
You have the single best account for video game history and docs. And learning abt how you got started making these history videos is amazing. Love your channel and content! I look forward to every upload!
That's very nice of you to say, glad you think so highly of the channel. Thanks so much
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries no problem, Brother!! 💪🏽💪🏽
Another "Killer" video, Patman! Always a great day watching you talk about "happy little games". Can't wait for the next one!
Thanks a lot, I apppreciate that
Great video Pat! My friends and I first saw this in an arcade room at a D&D con. The graphics at the time were so mind blowing it was like peaking in to the future.
Really cool of you to show all the finishers BTW! Also I'm glad you talked about the voice acting, in particular the overly amped up announcer who I felt was a huge draw.
Thanks so much. I thought it would be nice to have the finishers included because a lot of people had not seen them. I also wanted to showcase the voice acting as well thanks
Best intro period. And thanks for another COMBO BREAKER! introspective Patman
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much
UUUUULLLLLLTTTTTRRRRRAAAAAAAAA COMBO!!!! That announcer lives in a tiny spot of my brain and comes out every once in a while just to scream that. Same with NBA JAM and "Boom Shakalaka!"
You and me both LOL
Still have my copy for the Super Nintendo! Forgot about this game & had to play it after watching this video! Thanks for that! Also, i remember playing this in the Arcades in the 90s. The cabinet attracted me as it reminded me of Jason & the Argonauts! Now to find out Spinal was influenced by this movie is awesome! Also a big fan of werewolves, so i was Sabrewulf as well. i love your videos with you: Patman playing the actual arcade game! That is so Rad to see!
Yes please, a part 2! Great video
Thanks a ton
One of my favorite childhood games, a total hype machine. I miss those days.
Thanks for the video, Patman :3
Absolutely, thank you for watching
Great video as always!
Thanks again!
Thanks PatMan ! . I am currently playing KI on the X-Box One . But I can remember playing it when it first came out on the PlayStation 1 . ! . Thank you Sir for taking me back .!
Awesome, glad I could help. Thanks for watching
Wow such a great video Patrick
Thanks so much Carl Hubbard
1) I only played this on SNES and I loved it!
2) PatmanQC's production quality has really improved over the years, and I am really digging your videos!
Thanks so much, but I do enjoy them
I remember being blown away by this game when it first came out. Awesome vid!!!
Thanks pal
Killer Instinct is one of my fave games. I mostly play as Orchid.... Another awesome documentary PatMan my freind. Excellent stuff.
I played with her as well. Thank you so much
Love your videos my man!
Glad you like them! Thanks so much for watching
I lived in arcades at that time and played a ton of MK and KI. And NEVER have I ever seen a finisher/fatality/ultimate ever done in KI in any arcade so much no one even knew they existed. It wasn’t until a few years back when the updated version came out that I even saw them on RUclips.
Wow,, that's crazy
Man, two videos of my favorite fighters released in a row! Cinder had even more names. Announcer sound files were found in the game for “Pyrotech” and “Headshade”. I’ve also seen early footage showing his name as “Meltdown”. This game imprinted on me as a kid. I remember the first time I put a quarter in it. It was 8am at my local 24 hour arcade. I showed up still half asleep to beat the crowds and play MK2. I instead spotted this new machine with a huge skeleton on it. I had to try it. I jumped from the extremely loud “Killer Instinct” from the announcer. It looked futuristic. I was 11 at its release but honestly and foolishly thought I was seeing something from the future. It looked years ahead of any game in the arcade. I went on to run a Killer Instinct fan site & forum for 16 years. I’m so happy to have this machine in my collection. It’s truly a dream come true for me. I’ve played it consistently since it released and I’m still learning new combos to this day. I still marvel at the technology and coding. Thanks for the video Patman!
That is really cool, if I had known that I would put it in. Thanks for the info and things are watching
i fondly remember working in an arcade and telling people when they were playing ...wanna see something cool..both of you guys...hold up and all three punch buttons etc on both joysticks at the same time on the loading screen after character select... (hearing the bonus punch sound resulted in faster gameplay...slower gameplay etc depending on buttons held)
Yes! Your videos are religion for me. The details are always great, and addictive!
All hail PatmanQC! 😎
Thanks a lot!
Great work! And yeah, I'd love for you to go more in-depth on KI2 and the reboot!
Thanks a lot
C-C-C-Combo BREAKER!!!!!!! Great video PatmanQC. Thank you!!
T-T-T-T-Thank you my friend!
Love your vids. Thanks
Thanks a ton
Thank you for making this combo. If you could explain more of killer instinct 2 in your next video as well as go in depth into the characters I would be very grateful if you could do that. Thank you for making this video.
Okay, I'll get back to the series at some point. Thanks
I'm pretty new to your channel, Pat, but over the past month or so I've been binge watching the shit outta your content. And I'm glad I did. Especially love the 8bit comparisons. Keep it up, man, great content.
Happy little commentor!
Welcome aboard, I really appreciate you binging my stuff and hope you enjoy the rest of the content. Thanks a lot
Waking up to a new PatmanQC vid. Its gonna be a good day.
I'm like a big cup of coffee first thing in the morning. Thanks a lot my friend :-)
Loved the video. Do the other ones please .
Thanks a lot
21:39 I was today years old when I finally realized Fulgores fatality is a homage to the Ed-209 board room scene. 😂
A game of many firsts - first fighting game to not have throws, first fighting game you can cancel special moves. First game to have rendered 3D backgrounds. First game to have secret stages (sky/dungeon) Also, BEST music in a fighting game. EVER.
Oh man , i remember going to aladdins castle arcade with a roll of quarters and would play Killer Instinct for hours, some the best child hood memories of mine.
A roll of quarters LOL… I was lucky if I got tWo dollars to spend :-)
While I never got as good at Killer Instinct as I did with Street Fighter 2, it was the only other fighting game I spent any meaningful time with. Back when I was living in Los Angeles I was lucky enough to get to play a test machine for KI in Westwood, at an arcade near the UCLA campus. It was cool, as you had so many fighting game guys known in the community coming through to see the latest and greatest. The internet was barely a thing back then, but a few guys showed up from time to time with finishers and such, but since it was a test machine, things changed pretty regularly. Sadly, this was probably the last arcade game I actually spent time playing at a real arcade, as that culture was coming to a close by this time.
You know, I never got is good at killer instinct as I was at Mortal Kombat and especially not street fighter. I still had fun playing it though. So like you were in a pretty cool spot as far as arcades go
Great vid Patman.
Thanks a lot
Another awesome documentary. I have this game on the Rare Replay for Xbox but I never played it. So I will have to check this out and give it a go.
Thanks so much, have fun
There he is!!Mr Pat!! Love your stuff!!
Thanks a ton my friend
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries when I first started watching your channel I did a total Marathon. LOL. I work overnight and I had them playing Non-Stop For days! I just couldn't get enough! Keep em coming!!! I mentioned you to Retro Gaming guy to have you on one of his live streams. He's watched your content. He has guests all the time.😁
I prayed they put this in the snes emulator on the switch. ever since they did, I still play this game like crazy. wish I could play others online though. great video homie👍🏾
Great video as always Patman!! Fun fact, I have the voice from the game saying danger, eyedol, glacius, & cinder for specific text tones for certain friends…cinder is for an annoying buddy lol
LOL comment of the day, that is too funny
Excellent vid-doc! Please continue the series with KI2 and KI Reboot
Thank you so much
Thank you Patman!!!!!!!
Thank you for watching
Thanks for this amazing video. I was a huge fan of KI2 i used to play at a bowling place im Guatemala, what a great game!
Cheers! 🇬🇹👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
This game came out right when I joined the Air Force. There was an arcade machine at the base exchange and we all played the hell out of the SNES version in the day room.
How cool is that? I hope it was on free play
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries unfortunately it wasn't on free play
It seems like everything I played as a kid was developed by either Konami, Capcom, Midway, or Rare
They were the Giants that's for sure
Great video Patman! I knew I had to put this on this morning while I had breakfast. Used to walk up to Godfathers Pizza (now Rudy’s Tacos) and played this several times a week. I fired it up a couple weeks ago on my OG Xbox. Definitely lost my skills 30 yrs later lol
Why thanks, I hope it increased the enjoyment factor of your meal :-) I used to like going to godfathers as well, they usually had pretty cool arcade games
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Pat, I never once had their pizza. I was there for one reason only 🤗
Another great docuvid, patman. A KI 2 arcade video would be great. I still play the RPGish mode in the steam version of the 2013 game, to this day.
Thanks so much
great video, knew almost nothing about this series
Glad to hear it! Thanks so much
That’s what I’m talking about!! Thanks, PatMan!!
Thanks a ton for watching
Great episode Patman, I personally would love to see a KI2 and reboot, episodes. Tight
Thanks a lot
Great video. Love this game.
So do I, thanks so much
Thanks for the documentary. Many coins spent on arcade back at the 90`s! Now i have all of them, in various platforms! I am a MK guy, but Killer Instinct will be always on my heart and favorite fighting games! Stay Strong! Peace ✌
Thanks for watching, yes I spent many a pocket full of change on this game
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries it was a delight remember, so you dont have to thank me for watch it! And "we" spent that many coins but enjoyed every round! 😄
Peace🤜🏻🤛🏻
I couldn't agree more :-)
What I really remember especially as a kid was the sound, it was so cutting edge at the time. Ka-Ka-Ka Combo Breakerrr!
Even the Gameboy soundtrack slaps (chiptunes), just like the arcade version.
Yes the soundtrack was phenomenal
I needed a new pat man qc today it was one of those days thanks a lot man ! By the way me and my friends used to play this a pizza 🍕 restaurant back in the day and arcade a and then his Nintendo 64 ha ha . Ps also loved th convention footage I gotta go there if it's kinda by the north west Chicago suburbs or not to far
Awesome, I hope you enjoy it
Thanks for giving me some education I loved this
Absolutely, the giver watching
Ultra doco PatmanQC! I had KI on the snes and I still have gold on the 64. I would like a deeper dive into KI2 and gold, that would be cool. Cheers!
Thanks a lot buddy. I will get back to the series at some point
There's a good likelihood that Rare themselves decided to keep the finishing moves on the tame side to make sure KI got a Teen 13+ rating when it released for the upcoming "Ultra 64". More kids could buy it. Plus, it mighta been hard to make a bunch of CGI character models with severed heads and limbs, etc, to digitize into sprites. Easier to chop and edit photo-based sprites like in MK.
That could be. Although they had no problem with Mortal Kombat 2 violent finishers so who knows.
Love the newest addition the the intro!
Glad you like it! He's a really nice guy
You get a thumbs up from me just for including that random picture of Madame Fanny La Fan from 'Allo 'Allo! Totally random lol
The video was great to watch too but my thumbs up still goes to Fanny lol
LOL, fantastic! Glad you enjoyed it :-)
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I always enjoy your videos! Thank you and I hope all is well
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the content
This video just goes to show how amazingly talented the company rare really was back in the 90s. I hope there’s more videos on the rest of the franchise coming out.
Like I said, they were one of the biggest software developers in Europe
I played the ever loving HELL out of Killer Instinct back in the day. Perfect for an edgelord like me back then. A robot with Wolverine-esque claws? A werewolf? (later with cybernetic arms!). Super hot ass kicking female? Check, check, and check. My friends refused to play me at it because I would get them in those huge combos and they'd never be able to do a combo breaker. Great video, Patman. As always!
LOL, they seem to take all my boxes as well. Thanks buddy
Hi Patrick. wanted to see you document this for so long. its so awesome. would love to see the rest in depth. thank you!!!😌
Thanks so much
Bring back memories of arcades just seeing this.
The good old days
i knew that Ken Lobb had worked on Splatterhouse2 at Namco This series seems like a natural fit.
That's interesting, never knew he worked on that series
Everyone always asks “Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat”? I always said “neither, Killer Instinct my favorite.”
Awesome
Great video! KI and KI2 are really tricky to emulate. If you're using Batocera, you'll need to have extra folders in your ROM folder with CHD files from the game in them in order to get it to work.
I tried three different CHD images in a number of ROM sets but could not get the proper combination
my personal favorite fighting game on arcade and snes. love B Orchid
Yes she is one of my favorites as well
Yes would love to know more about the other KI games
Excellent
Killer Instinct has always been a favorite of mine. Love having it on my XBox and mostly working on MAME now!
I struggled with that darn thing for four hours on my PC and finally gave up
I did it on my phone, with the newest MAME4Droid build. So I can't take any actual credit.
I played the absolute hell out the original Killer Instinct arcade game and the SNES version (still have the CD). Orchid was always my main. Never could break the 155-hit mark on her Ultra Combo, though...
Killer Cuts!!
That's insane
Another killer documentary by PatmanQC !
Thanks two live crew
28:46 wonder if someone made a SNES Cart of that Rom mod 🤔 ? Really impressive work who ever made that rom hack
This game was my addiction back in the day
One of my fondest gaming memories was playing Killer Instinct in the arcade as a young teen & pulling off Fulgore's Ultra Combo by accident mashing buttons.
That's pretty cool
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Well I should of said doing the Sonic Boom charge move over & over mashing buttons in between, but close enough. My buddy next to me said that was awesome dude! How the hell did you do that? Anyways, keep up the good work man! 👍
ULTRA COMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Combo breaker
CCCCCOOOMBO BREAKER!!!! Cant wait to watch this one.
Hope you enjoyed it
It’s funny how a lot of people I think forget that the N64 was gonna be the Ultra 64, there are still posters and ads for it out there. I had no idea about the Famicom history, that’s very cool! This is actually one fighter I’ve always liked, fighters aren’t normally my thing usually. Lots of great info here, my favorite finishing clips was being thrown off the roof lol. Great vid as usual Pat!!! ❤️🎮
It is pretty interesting. Also, rumor has it that the ultra was dropped because of konami owning the copyright to Ultra games. Thanks Rob
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentariesoh now that’s very interesting actually!
@@retrobeliever That should have said ultra games. Sorry my voice to text doesn't work that great Sometimes
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries ohhhh ok, and no worries!
