My favorite part of Brighter Shores was the music. I stopped playing just shy of 300 total level, but I am willing to come back in the future if the gameplay becomes more compelling, particularly the skilling.
Very excited for what this game will become. Even in 6 - 12 months time we could have a much different game. Still has been great getting in early like you said. I think we will see a pretty large increase in player count once bosses, raids/dungeons, pvp and other things have been added in. A lot of people like to log in for an hour a couple times a week for those activities rather than just skilling like the game has now
I think the player models look so funny in this game. I hope they add some more ”casual” transmogs because it really fits the game XD I made some hipster type of guy with a twirly moustache bowl cut and big round glasses, just looking for some more transmogs like the xmas stuxf

@@roganjosh6220 Not only that, but putting that much weight on players in such a massive game there's bound to be stupid decisions as a result of people either not actually knowing what they want, what is good for the game or simply being uninformed about parts of the game they dont play
While I generally agree that developers know how to design their games better than the community, the initial launch made me really worried that the Fen team don't really know what they're doing with the game without community feedback. The most glaring issue to me was the withdraw 5 or 10, like in what world did you actually play this game, test all the skilling, and think that any sane human being would want to ever withdraw 10 of something when the inventory size is 24?? I think the only time I ever genuinely wanted to withdraw or buy 10 outside of trying to hit increments of 12/24 was for getting mats for afk tasks, but that's an action you do like twice a day vs hundreds of times a day and even then 12s is essentially the same thing. There are lots of other weird things like how they decided to make 4 zones instead of really fleshing out the first 2 zones which will define whether 90% people stick with the game. As good as crenopolis's skills are, it really didn't "add" anything to the macro of the game outside of not wanting to skill in any other area because the crenopolis skills and rates are just superior, but again a massive portion of the community will bounce off before they even reach this zone. The mines adds weapon crafting but the mines feel bland and the weapon crafting is annoying for the sake of being annoying (I'm looking at you gas leaches and arbitrary 6 item batch material processing). I just feel like they don't really understand how important it is to make Hopeport and the forest interesting with just more quests/rewards as you level up, most players are gonna want to quit when they realize the grind post 20 is a lot slower than 1-20, and all the non-story quests outside of the obelisk are asking for 2+ skills at ~25 and then ~50 which is insane, there needs to be more in between these levels to keep people engaged. Don't even get me started on how storage rift is locked behind one of these quests and not the main story quest or a low lvl quest like the obelisk (the lore behind the unlock has literally nothing to do with that quest either, they could actually just move it into the main story if they wanted a proper new player experience) I do agree that this game is pretty fleshed out for an early access game, it's just worrying that a lot the things that were focused on are... not very important to keeping more casual people interested in the game? The sweaty grindlords will chase the leaderboards regardless of how fun the content is, it's the curious non-rs players and casual rs players that you have to really create good early content for to keep engaged. And I'm sure with how insanely fast they're pumping out meaningful updates that this game will eventually get there, but by then will the people who already bounced off the game years ago during EA come back? Will they even find out that all the things they hated were improved? I'd imagine most will have just written off the game as not for them and leave it untouched among 100 other Steam games, only ever remembering the frustrations they had with it.
Ultimately the game was released before Andrew truly would have wanted. I don't doubt he would have taken another 6 months if there hadn't been so much pressure on him. This being the case; I think we have a lot to look forward to especially given the membership revenue that helps generate content more effectively and we kind of have a road map for the time being
imo the only things that feel like "restarting" are combat and forager+gatherer since those 2 skills are so similar. They are planning a big rework to the combat skills to address that issue. Aside from that, the rest of the professions are unique enough. Episodes interact by having gold and resources be useful in multiple of them, but I don't think having professions locked to regions is a bad thing.
this was intended to be a pay per chapter game *its obvious it was designed this way* then at last minute they paniced knowing theyd get terrible PR releasing episodically payment wise so they changed to subscription based and it just wasnt made for that.
@@RidibundRSi think Andrew Gower said they did this so that when they release a new league newer players or casual players arent way way far behind the newest content and can join the hype. I always contemplate if a game like brighter shores gets more attention from an early access release than from an actual 1.0 release. You could say that a game is never finished and the "tags" that we apply to their level of readiness are ambiguous. Will Brighter Shores have a rush of new players when they hit a 1.0 release or was the initial early access the high point? Did the early access leave players wanting more and word of mouth has spread to the groups who would have played the game if there was a better, more impactful showing in early access? Brighter shores demographic appears small when compared to other demographics and flooded with fuller games to meet that demographic. It will definitely be an uphill battle for the Gowers who are also attempting to develop the engine that the game is running on and appeal to other development teams for licensing. A lot of spinning plates. I enjoy you speaking optimistically about the game!
