Outstanding lesson as always Jonny. For anyone that's interested, Shell Voicings were popularized by Bud Powell and others, Rootless Voicings by Bill Evans and others, 4 Part Close is an Iconic Sound Of Jazz Piano and Big Band, used by Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, George Shearing and many Others. Quartel Voicings were popularized by McCoy Tyner, and the Red Garland Voicing was also popular with Erroll Garner. For more information please check out Jazz Piano Comping by Suzanne Davis and An Approach To Comping Vol. 1 and 2 by Jeb Patton. Thanks.

Errol Garner was not allowed into the musicians union because he couldn't read music!

This is the best summarization on two note chord voicings I have ever seen. I plan on using it as a long term syllabus lesson for myself. Thank you Jonny

Type error; two hand chord voice, NOT two note voicings.

Amazing as usual. With you Johnny we learn that to play jazz and contemporary piano we do not have to be fearful to play different notes. Basically there aren't wrong notes😂

And remember, all notes are chord tones if you extend the chord far enough.

Amazing that most instructors think that everybody knows what they learned since they were 7yo. Notice how fast they talk like life is beautiful. it would be nice if they take their time and explain one chord at the time and stay there long enough after repeating several times.

This is for beginning jazz piano students, not for beginning piano students. In other words, the teacher assumes you know the fundamentals and is just teaching you how to apply it to playing jazz.

Most content developers assume that people will pause or replay their videos as needed to get whatever level of detail they might need. Also you can replay the last 10 seconds of a video by simply double tapping on the far left side of the video.
