I'm old enough to remember the state Bama football was left in after Coach Bryant retired. We didn't have the infrastructure we have now. We refused to try to move forward and instead tried to do each and every single thing as Coach Bryant would've done it. Except for the tenure of Coach Stallings, that didn't work.
Now we have a decade and a half worth of superb infrastructure. We hired someone with a completely different coaching style. An offensive mind in place of a defensive genius. How things will play out remains to be seen. However, we are in a much better position than we were at this time in 1983.

Me thinks… the (Deeply) Primary questions about DeBoer (in comparison to Saban & his Extraordinary Success) are these 5:
    A. Can & Will he Consistently bring in Top-3 Recruiting Class Talent (Via all 4 CFB Recruiting Sites) as the New GOAT Saban accomplished every (Damn 😁) Year?
    B. How is DeBoers Evaluation of Talent, compared to Sabans (IE: What type of Players does he look for/primarily acquire in Building UP a “Championship Caliber” Team???… What is his ‘Player Choice Formula’, or Recipe?)
    C. Saban had a Success package that he called “The Process”. Will he pursue it (Study it, learn it) & implement that concept into His Program?… try his Very Best to keep it intact?
    D. Saban was an Old School NFL Defensive (Super) Master, & grew to become a Genius at neutralizing offenses (Who Also had Greatly Strong NFL Ties & Knowledge, that was Great in getting his Players Drafted). What’s DeBoers NFL Resume & Specialty?
    E. Lastly: Can he & his Staff Develop the Players (NFL Ready) as Saban and HIS (Chosen coaches) Coaching Staff well did? Due to Sabans long NFL tenure, he knew First Hand/Key knowledge of what NFL Scouts (as He once was) & Combines are Looking for… etc. Furthermore, Saban was consistently Great at Replacing Coaches that left the program… had a very good idea on who he wanted to be his assistants.
    - Obviously, DeBoer has MASSIVE Shoes to Fill, in coming behind a Great Coach as Saban was.
    And 😁 “NO!… I’m not Saban” 😁…

Defense will be better, no more playing an overly complex scheme with 8 guys dropping into pass coverage and letting the QB run for first downs on third and 15. The blitz is back baby. Under Saban, he put in the guys that understood the defense, not the best athletes. Josh Jobe, anyone?
Saban recruited great but when half those recruits never made it on the field what good did it do? His last 10 years, Bama made the playoffs 8 times and lost 5 times. They had to win in 2015 on the last play of the game. In 2017, Saban had to abandon the game plan (40 total yards of offense in the first half) and put in Tua to win in OT. He blew a sure win in 2016 by not letting Kiffin coach the NCG and in 2021 blew an easy win by failing to give young receivers meaningful playing time during the season. If Saban was the goat then Bama would have won 10 National Championships not 6. His last 5 years, 4 two loss seasons and missed the playoffs twice. At Saban's first press conference, he said Bama would be the type of team that opponents hated to play because they knew Bama would dominate the physical game. Do you really think anyone feared Bama in the last 5 years?

Alabama was really good before Nick Saban (has this fool Andrew never heard of Gene Stallings, Bear Bryant, Frank Thomas or Wallace Wade?) and they'll continue to be really good after Nick Saban. Will they ever be "win six titles in 15 years" good again? Probably not, simply because there are so many teams that now will have a legitimate shot each year to win a title. When there are 10 teams that can win it all and they all make the newly expanded CFP, even if Alabama is one of those teams every year they should win an average of one title every 10 years.
