I just love how Denken was introduced as a cutthroat power hungry mage, but turned out to be this sentimental old man that goes around doting on any surrogate grandchildren he comes across.
It seems to be in general how the characters (humans/elves at least) in this story are written. Like, even Ubel who is deliberately framed as this psycho killer in her introduction is not really THAT bad.
My favorite parts was how the old man was telling Stark how he's mastered the essence of combat & then at the end of the Ep. the 2 northern makes are telling Stark how he really gets the essence of fighting.
Himmel never told Frieren his true feelings because he didn't want to have her end up like Voll, spending the days remembering someone you care for deepy grow old and die. It's why he didn't try to stop her from leaving after the adventure, too. This way, almost all of her memories of him will be as the young, carefree, slightly narcissistic, and vital person she adventured with for a decade and not "Old Man Himmel."
Stark continues to be be grabbed by random people in the street and upsetting Fern with his atrocious behaviour. At least he learned all that old man had to teach him
What is cute here is to watch Frieren at the girls cookie party. She actually smiles and seems to be enjoying herself with them. Our leading lady is warming up to others in a very serious but fun way. Frozen Frieren is slowly defrosting.

The old man "teaching" Stark is too funny.

Remember back in episode 2 Himmel told Frieren his favorite dish is omurice (or ruf-omelet).
And the old lady paid Richter in candy, basically.
Land's throwaway line about competing later has caused so much confusion in reactors
Yeah, he was just saying they won't keep their teams through the other tests.
