Stan Laurel played at the Glasgow Music Hall in Argyll Street at the turn of the 20th Century, and probaby picked up the tune there. But there's a certain sound character and soundstage that gives you the chills when you hear sounds being generated with something that has vacuum tubes in it. It's like comparing a record played from a vinyl and a Hi-res file (DSD, MQA, You name it)... Although the pristine quality of the hi-res file might be surprising and mind-wrapping, it's too clean... Sterile almost. It may appear as if I'm talking more about taste than an objective quality comparation -and don't get me wrong, I have'em all VSTs, Analog synths, vinils, and audio equipment with brands that have for a brand name-, but while I enjoy the experience of creating sounds with a fancy VST or listening to a fancy DSD audio file, they don't move me the same way as when I'm playing with an old school synth, or listening to a Vinyl. And I get the feeling I'm not the only one.
