  • In this video, we show you a very cool Belt Buckle Gun that was purchased by the SS at the end of WW2. It is widely believed that only 12 of these were made. Our belief is that they were purchased by Heinrich Himmler for some of his SS officers so that they could shoot their enemies rather than face being captured.

I suspect there may have been more of these buckles made than we've been led to believe. I only say this because when I was a kid one of my Dad's employees, who had been an Army field artilleryman in Europe during WWII, told me his unit had captured a German officer who was wearing one. He recited the incident to me sometime between the mid 1960s to early 1970s. He was not a gun collector, so I doubt he'd ever read about them, nor did he have any reason to make up the story. As I recall, he said the one they acquired had a lanyard running under the officer's coat and down the coat sleeve. It was designed so when he raised his hands to surrender, he could pull the lanyard and the unit would pop open and fire.

I've heard these were captured from an SS Colonel by the same GI who shot down a German fighter plane with a BAR, was attacked by Tiger tanks, and then Patton rolled up in a Jeep to congratulate him.

I used to see these buckles at Gun Shows in the 1970s. Most of them were not for sale but they were cool to look at.

I missed one of these by about two weeks, from a seller of memorabilia. He said you needed a low ATF tax stamp, and he sold it for $150. But that was over 50 years ago, when SS daggers were $75 for enlisted & $250 for the chained officer model.

Have these not already been discredited as fantasy pieces by just about every reputable historian?

I could definitely see Maxwell Smart running one of these. Of course the use of such weapon would be followed by his catchphrase "missed it by that much".

Like usual, that is so COOL!! Very neat the way it works. If it weren't for you, we would probably never see one of these. Thanks for sharing.

Maxwell Smart would certainly have insisted on the cone of silence for such a top secret weapon.

Tom, great video first of all! I’ve been watching your videos for a while now…I have also been collecting vintage ammunition for a while…probably 10 years or so; I would absolutely love to see some video content on ammo that you come across in your line of work, or wherever you might run across it. Hopefully you see this and are willing to give it a shot. Thank you kind sir!

I prefer these to be in the hands of private collectors than somewhere like the Arlington museum where guns have to be permanently deactivated and even knives must have their edges dulled! (I'm not saying these institutions don't do good work in other ways, but some of their govt mandated requirements cause a degree of physical history to be lost)

Surprised Wild Bill Donavan didn’t adopt a poison tipped projectile version for the OSS.

I can't imagine myself putting my hands up to surrender then reaching for my belt, as a member of the SS, and not getting my head turned into a pink mist. I've heard that the allies were told to shoot SS members even if they did surrender so I just don't see that working

The down folding buckle you have seems more mechanically logical, in that you get a gravity assist from the faceplates weight. However it does seem larger and more clunky that the others. It has no markings so it could be a proto type.
