Nice tour of Smokemont. Been there a couple times myself. I'm heading back down south on Xmas day to visit my daughter in GA. So I'll be going right thru there again. Hope you have a great Holiday season. Sure is nice you continue to get out and make great videos! Thanks for taking us along.
Great to see your Aliner out and about. Mine would be if I weren’t such a fair-weather camper. Wonderfully detailed tour of the campgrounds. Thanks for the link to the sweatshirts. Cute little critter on there too.
I feel so bad that the poor Aliner hasn't had any love in a while. I need to figure out how to get someone else to wash and wax it. Its looking real shabby!! Have a great Holiday season and New Year!
@@GoingNoWhereFast Thanks. Best wishes to you, too. 2021 has to be a better year. I thought your Aliner looked good. If you figure out how to get someone else to wash and wax it for you, please let the rest of us in on the secret!
Was at Cattaloochi 2 summers ago and loved it! The elk were magnificent. A bit nerve wracking getting there on that dirt road that goes around the mountain. Had my 33' motor home at the time but plan on going back with my 29' 5er this year. Now that I know what the road is like, I'm itching to go back.
Really enjoy the history of Appalachia you are binging us with the videos since moving south. I see you have some snow there but, Binghamton got around 40-50 inches last night! Thanks for sharing..........
My Brother in Saratoga is sending my texts with photos of him trying to get his 24" tall snowblower to move 36" snow!! LOL Enjoy it! I actually really miss it!
Ahhhh... I thought something was up. I did not realize they closed them. I wonder why. Usually winter is the least destructive time for such trails. Guess maybe they are afraid of ice causing too many wrecks. Thanks for the update !
Hi Rick and Akela. Loved to see some of the Smoky Mountains camping. all ways enjoy the Aliner. Love to see more Aliner boondocking. Stay safe and Merry Christmas !
Well Thanks! I wasn't really satisfied with it, it was long and quick to jump around. But there is a lot to see in the Park! Thanks for the comment !! It helps the next one !
Uwharrie River - The Uwharrie River (pronounced yoo-WAHR-ee) is a 61.84 mi (99.52 km) long river, in the Piedmont region of central North Carolina in the United States.
I think it's probably closed for the season, but have you stayed at cataloochee? It is inside the national park but it is so remote and besides are so spread out along the outer edge that it really is a great place. Although we are more daring than most and try to squeeze our 33-foot rig into a lot of smaller places, the road leading in would just be too much for our size. There are some tight switchbacks to maneuver, especially if we encountered oncoming traffic. If you haven't check that area out, it's definitely worth checking out. It's really not that far off the interstate. I think it's about 40 minutes when you get off the interstate there at Maggie Valley, but a lot of that is just the slow Mountain Switchback Road
Maybe the half full is because of covid? I think Smokemont is the only one I didn't stay in when I was in the Smokies a few years ago. The mill was operational when I was there with two volunteers, pretty amazing. Thanks for the refresher!
Thanks for the comment, and watching. The Visitor Center Museum was closed because of COVID, the Mill was just closed due to the Season. According to the rangers most stuff was closed because of the winter. Some things had restrictions. But excellent place to go no matter what. Lots of room for all who wish to wander !
Good video. I know state park rangers in NC have the ability to block campsite registrations in the system. I’m convinced it happens more than we know.
i IMAGINE SOMEONE IN THE LOCAL PARK ADMINISTRATION would be able to block a site that isn't reserved in case a camper wanted to stay on site and no go through the reservation system. I see a lot of places are no longer walk-in and register. You have to call the reservation system from a special park phone and they coordinate ALL campsites.
Thanks for the tour of this campground. I have been wanting to go there but try to avoid the crowds but may be difficult due to it's popularity. I agree the Reserve America website and it's reservation process is sometimes woncky! I don't mind using a tent site if available since I'm self captained and those sites are really nice! I did not know about the handicap polcy I will keep that in mind for next trip.
my experience using Reserve America in upstate NY (Adks) is the software is VERY EFFICIENT about charging your card for every reserve you've made, including the out of NY state surcharge. NY has been using RA for many years now
I think almost everyone uses it, Evan if it looks like a proprietary software, I think it is just a front end interface. Because I have seen my Information on "State Reservation Sites" I have never been to before !
Thanks for the tour, Rick! Haven't been to Smokemont but have been To Elkmont and Cades Cove (ugh). Cades Cove was nice but way too crowded and full of screaming kids and generators. Elkmont was much more relaxing and we got to check out the fireflies that do synchronized flashing. We plan on going to Smokemont in the spring and will try and get F8 for our 25' trailer. We do have a small generator but rely more on our 400 watts of solar when dry camping. Happy Holidays!
Thanks for watching! All the National Parks are always full of families. I'll stick to the National Forests during the summer season. Have a great holiday season and New Year !
We wishing you safe journey and relaxing vacation when you arrive have nice time stay safe blessed good luck to you your dearest ones merry Christmas happy new safe year 2021 may god this misery which called COVID-19 soon amen in all over world

Love the smokies! But I also love to hike there. FYI: elk herd is a break off group from the original herd in Cattaloochi
Well, I'm sure there are many herds, some larger than others. That was a big herd. Thanks for the comment!

Love the smokies I have joined the 900 mile club with the hikes
Woow, 900 miles, I wonder how long that would take me!?
@@GoingNoWhereFast it adds up fast
Uwharrie was absolutely packed that weekend I was there. It was the last weekend the Jeep trails were open. They are now closed for the winter.

Yes, Cataloochee closes October. Opens back up in May. I have reservations for there in June.
