  • @RetrOrigin
    @RetrOrigin Год назад +1

    Love your videos but I wouldn't exactly call many of your recommendations fps friendly.
    I tested most of the popular grass mods in different areas on a vanilla profile and Folkvangr was one of the worst when it came to performance (unsurprisingly Realistic Grass was the best)
    Lux is also something you need to be cautious with, specially if you combine it with some interior overhauls. The split meshes used to combat light flickering unfortunately increase draw calls in almost absurd ways in some places (some areas like the Bannered Mare can reach 20k draw calls with either JK's or Eek's interiors and go as low as 30fps even on high end hardware. For reference anything above 12k draw calls is already bad. Draw calls are CPU bound, so graphics cards make no difference)
    Lastly, downscalling textures is only really helpful if your reaching/exceeding your VRAM limit. Texture resolution byitself doesn't really impact framerates that much.

    • @mastercheesey
      @mastercheesey  Год назад

      Lux only drops you that low if you combine it with interior overhauls like you said, by itself it doesn’t go above 8k drawcalls, just like if you use jk without Lux its already 8k so if you combine the two the fps are going to be bad inherently, but folkvangr fps depends on grass distance and if you have grass cache done, I’ve noticed more fps with folkvangr than with veydosebrom but you could always switch it out for verdant , and downscaling will always help, textures will always drop fps no matter what , you would only say that if you had a good gpu and had the vram to spare, but on low end when I was using a gfx 1650 if I had a landscape texture above 1k I would notice a drop and yeah not much vram on a 1650 already but lowering textures will always help and also deleting 3d loss that some mods come with so no matter what you do using cathedral asset optimizer is 100% necessary unless you rather have your game using 19gbs of beam 24/7, with this list all the mods i recommended i my vram doesn’t go above 3-4vram and when I had the 1650 it was around 2 because i downscaled EVERYTHING to 1k no 2 or 4k textures but I have some now because I upgraded gpus but I still downscaled a lot to 1-2k, the heaviest thing in this list from all my fps testing while on a 1650 is aspens ablaze, but you like i said in the video can downscale those to 512 and wouldn’t notice a quality difference unless you face-plant one, but all in all, 1.) yes lower resolution even if you aren’t low on vram unless you have a 3090 or 4090 2.) Lux can and will hurt if you use it with interior overhauls 3.) most fps effiencient grass with great looks is cathedral landscapes with cathedral 3d pine grass but people wanted hyper realistic without breaking their pc. With this list I do have a 3070 now but my cpu is still a 3 3100 i dont drop below 60 unless im making a video and have everything on ultra settings then i go to 44 at the very lowest and that’s because of my cpu

    • @RetrOrigin
      @RetrOrigin Год назад +1

      @@mastercheesey Yeah veydosebrom is amongst the worst. When I tested grass mods I tested them all in vanilla profile on MO2 using the exact same settings for all the grass mods to avoid discrepancies.
      As for the texture resolution, the only time where it mattered other than exceeding VRAM was when using some ENB presets. Certain shaders have a harder time dealing with alpha/transparency and vegetation/tree textures all have lots of transparency in them (which is why in part wilderness is where framerates tend to drop the most)
      I personally don't think it's worth sacrificing texture detail if you have enough VRAM. It's better to keep resolution sizes tied to whatever you're texturing. For example It's perfectly fine to use even 8K textures for large creatures like dragons but on the other hand going over 512x512 for a spoon texture would be incredibly wasteful.
      Don't get me wrong, optimizing does help in general , but in many cases it has to do with some mod authors still packing uncompressed textures or textures without mipmaps, or simply using absurd texture sizes for objects that don't need it (like the spoon example above)
      I'm still stuck using a 7 years old PC (i5 8600k OC'ed at 5ghz, GTX 1080, 32GB DDR4) so I still have to constantly test things to keep my framerates in check.

    Is the Zeus edit of folkvangr really less taxing than full on folkvangr? I haven’t tried it yet. I did try veydosebrom again but then I realized it doesn’t have green tundra grass. Or any tundra grass.
    Then I remembered, the whiterun tundra has no grass by default.

    For lower lower lower end pc like mine(I have i5-4th gen with 16gb ram and integrated graphics) try out Skyrim 202X 1k version, spaghetti's overhauls, happy little trees, northern roads, grass fields+grass fps booster, community shaders + klarity reshade preset, SMIM, amidianborn stuffs, realistic waters two, parallax caves, rudy HQ nordic ruins and ryn's mods. For npcs I use Racial Body Morphs, Diversity, Tempered skin for women, BHUNP 3BBA👀, Skysight Skins for men and Rustic Clothing and Sons of Skyrim armors. I don't get that much fps in game(average of 35+ fps even on crowded places) but hey my game looks beautiful but at the same time performance friendly I also downscale most of my textures if there's no 1k versions.

      what usually hurts people the most is grass distance and shadow distance if you use grass cache you can pretty much turn grass distance to 0 it really helps, and shadows depend on how much you’re willing to sacrifice, I have them at about 7k distance lol not that high but if I had a better pc id go all out

    Many good mods with some not so good ones like Skyrim 3D rock, excellent aesthetically terrible technically, creates a lot of bugs since in Skyrim rocks are often used to seat characters or to place objects on them and since S3DR changes the shape of the stones glitches occur here and there. Lux Via is real crap full of clutter randomly placed without any logic and taste

      yeah none of these are perfect like some people avoid northern roads entirely because of the cluster of patches and annoyances the only reason i use it for the complex northern roads, and i use lux via because the bridges from northern roads in some places aren't that great, but this is what most list uses like skyrim ultima that people love i could name every single environmental mod from that without looking at his list
