Students tried not to be late to miss the entertainment. And sometimes it led to student originated discussions. What will my students remember 20 years later from my math and computer science lectures?

I beg to differ. I think the vast majority conform in these scenarios. To say here and now what you would and wouldn't do in a given situation is complacency.
