Robert Downey Jr Hopes to Learn From the Example of Tony Stark and Every Other Role He Plays

  • Robert Downey Jr learned a lesson earlier in his career that it's important to learn from the journey of the characters you play. In the beginning Tony Stark created Iron Man to protect himself, but in the "Endgame" his suit was designed to give the ultimate sacrifice. So what does this mean for Robert?

    "You are not your accomplishments." Ok, so that reminds me of something Happy said in FFH about Tony. And it was basically saying Tony couldn't live up to Tony. 🙁 And just with them saying public's perception or what you do in life doesn't define you essentially.
    All I'm saying is Robert and Tony are one in the same... to an extent.

    • @Di7manya
      @Di7manya 5 лет назад +44

      With anyone who is famous or accomplished there is always this thing that people that don't know you will inevitably form an idea about who you are. Tony's fame and larger than life attitude would understandably have a life of its own. That's why people say things like "don't meet your heros". Because the idea you have of that person in your head will always be idealised and the real person will always disappoint because they are human beings with flaws, doubts and problems.
      Tony couldn't live up to Tony, because the Tony in everyone's minds was a genius that given enough time could solve literally everything, while the real Tony was a man with a lot of baggage dealing with a lot of fear and pain, just doing his best while shouldering the burden of protecting the entire world.

Marvel Studios took a risk because of his demonstrated talent in a 20 years career back in 2006 and before that Shane Black with Kiss Bang Bang, if it wasn't for those movies he would probably never recovered from his troubles with justice.

Even way before he made the MCU what it is today his approach to everything on and off camera is unique and seemingly endless. You know how some superheroes have to focus to use their powers? When it comes to acting he's like one of those characters like Cyclops were all he has to do is open his eyes and the full power is always ready like it's dying to be freed. It's awesome when a person who has that is able to show others how to Master it.

    I was so shocked at that element of End Game's ending, that he REALLY is gone (as opposed to sort of 'living on' as like an AI as in the comics, etc) if for no other reason than I did not expect Robert Downey Jr to be willing to walk away from that world yet. He likely more so than any other actor in the MCU looooooves playing his character, Tony Stark. The running gag for years now of him blurring reality, doing the Stark routine even when outside of a film. He's so relished it (not to mention making insane bank). Plus, and I don't say this as not a fan, I very much am one, but this is just fact-- during this same timeframe of the MCU, he hasn't experienced a great deal of the public loving him as much when NOT playing Tony Stark. The two Sherlock Holmes movies, that's pretty much been it, and not like those are original property, it's a beloved character pre-RDJ that does automatically bring along a certain amount of fandom. Mind you I enjoyed them both, just saying that's worth noting. "The Judge" was clearly a sort of labor of love for him, he produced it, and it was neither financially nor critically very successful.
    Ultimately, I think it speaks all that more highly of both the Russos and Markus & McFeely for taking the character there on the page, and in such a fantastic way, and RDJ for fully committing to it (they sort of did have to check and clear it with him beforehand, after all).

    I've never seen a clip with an actor who is more aware of the camera. RDJ looks directly at the camera really often, which is quite strange considering surely he must be used to not having to look directly at the camera! I wonder why he made those looks to the camera?

      Aron Simpson because he wants to make people watching the interview feel like they’re part of it, an active listener, and not just behind a screen? I feel like his words have a better impact that way.

      Same. I want to see him in those high quality comedy films. Those ones with drama I it. Not sure if there's a name for them lol, kind of like the upcoming 'Once Upon Time in Hollywood' or whatever it's called with Leonardo DiCaprio. He needs to be in movies that utilize his skills in drama and comedy in order to keep up his momentum. He needs to take a look at his audience and find a balance between what they like about him and what he wants from himself.

      @@purechaos1075 You mean dark/ black comedies? Yeah, I think he'd thrive in those movies. Especially if you were to pair him with directors like Tarantino, the Coen brothers, Wes Anderson, Adam McKay, or Paul Thomas Anderson. Not sure why he hasn't teamed up with one of them yet.

    I'll miss him in MCU moving forward, but I am extremely excited to see what he would do next. Hopefully return to amazing films like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Due Date & The Judge. I love him and wish him the best for his future in and out of the cinema.
