I never really appreciated how good RDJ was in the MCU until after Endgame, I realized omg this is the last time I’ll ever see Tony Stark. Nobody embodies that role more than him, it’s crazy to think that Tom Cruise was considered to be Iron Man. How he turned himself around from those tough times to one of the highest payed celebrities in the world. I hope he one day gets an Oscar and I honestly will be sad if he doesn’t get an Oscar nod for Endgame cause he was absolutely amazing in that.
You never appreciated RDJ in the MCU until Endgame? That's fucking shameful. He's been the biggest highlight of the series BY FAR since the first Iron Man. No other actor in the MCU has the range and nuance that RDJ brings to Tony Stark.
Well there's some further context for that. Yes, it seems "crazy", but because Tom Cruise was not really considered for what we wound up having as Iron Man. Cruise had been trying to get an Iron Man film off the ground in which he could star from like the mid to late 90s, but obviously it never came together. It would've been simply a superhero film pretty much like they were pre-MCU. "we're gonna make this movie, and hey if it makes money, maybe we'll get to make a sequel!" Little different from the Ben Affleck version of Daredevil. Once Marvel Studios had the start of their plan of a self-producing studio in motion for a potential interconnected universe if successful (remember if Fav's first film wasn't what it was, none of the saga ever happens), while Robert Downey Jr was not a shoe-in for Tony Stark, Jon Favreau had to fight hard for him due to his recent addiction/prison troubles, Tom Cruise was never in the mix to be THAT version of him.
This guy is an inspiration. He has been a figurehead of one of the most successful franchises of all time if not THE most successful. And yet he still has the wisdom to distance himself as an individual from that work
I never watched a single Marvel movie until this year. I binged them all so I could still get into an IMAX Endgame showing. I had very little knowledge about or experience with RDJ before this. He's a completely suited-to-his-work expert and definitely helped draw me into this universe. I can't praise him enough. The sheer likability he brought to Tony instantly in the opening of the first Iron Man was vital to making that story work, and he really nails everything. Anyone else playing the pre-cave Tony Stark would have seemed like a jerk. It's a thousand little things: The look in his eyes when he realizes the inverted mobius strip solved time travel halfway through Endgame was so convincing.

You're post kind of proves you don't. That chapter for RDJ is officially closed. Iron Man is gone. No A.I., no Skrull Clone, no resurrection magic. He's gone.
You know why I love Downey, it's because of his super active compartmentalised realistic speeches which he gives, so fast,so grounded, so real yet so warm & comfortable, its good.
I love how greatful he feels about portraying Iron Man and how much enjoyed being that character. Many actors at the end say they hatted the film or film series which made them famous like Robert Pattinson with Twilight or Sean Connery with James Bond but Robert feels about his part in the MCU and feels happy about it
Man I love this guy and his positivity towards life. I don't think he would be the man he is today without the pain he went through. Even the bad times of your life are necessary in creating the person you are now. He is a shining example of that.
Love these repeat-guest episodes, great to see how these people have evolved since they were last on. Would love, personally, to see Ethan Hawke back on another episode, have listened to his early episode so many times over.
It's good to see that Robert has such a healthy outlook on what's next. Every fan who's sad to see his tenure end should watch this to help foster a similar mindset.
Did Robert Downey Jr literally just use special k. HAHA FOLDING UP AND MELTING as a metaphor so he knows the effects of that lolol dude is beyond talented can't wait to see what he starts putting out
I like how Robert drops the celebrity status and is more open for this interview. I think it's helps that the interviewer is talking to him like a human being and not interrogating him.
Years ago, William Shatner had a radical new idea for a tv interview show, "Raw Nerve", where it was just a one on one, no distractions, and go deep on the questions. I love this format. I hate the late night talk shows that only show 2 minutes, and most of it is pre-planned questions. A great interviewer goes deep.
“You went full Stark. Never go full Stark.” Much love and respect to RDJ. Been a fan since Weird Science. Here’s hoping he’ll continue to be awesome without the mcu. 👍🏾🍻
It’s so good to hear him talking like this. Out of anyone in the acting world the chances that the “transition phase” as he calls could crumble someone it’s RDJ right now coming off the biggest franchise in history. So it’s really nice to hear him acknowledge that idea and try to get ahead of it. You’re a wonderful actor and person Robert.
If anyone has the tools to spot dependency and work out how to avoid it, Robert Downey Jr. is the guy. As much as I'll miss his "Tony Stark" role, I am excited to see where he shows up next. Looking forward to Sherlock Holmes if it happens.
RDJ's run in the MCU is a perfect example of leaving but wanting more. Obviously I can watch him play Ironman for another 11 years but Marvel had to prove to fans that they can end arcs then make death matter. It has been an honor seeing his performance get better over the years and am glad to have had an epic movie going experience each time.

Fuck off it ain't a reference, can you just let the guy speak? He's literally trying to get out of all the MCU shit and open a new frontier in life. Did you not listen to the entire speech?
@@Nabish1 it's a fucking joke what's wrong with you
You're post kind of proves you don't.
Even without the armour he still sounds like and is still iron man to me. Thank you RDJ
#WELOVEYOU3000
I love how greatful he feels about portraying Iron Man and how much enjoyed being that character. Many actors at the end say they hatted the film or film series which made them famous like Robert Pattinson with Twilight or Sean Connery with James Bond but Robert feels about his part in the MCU and feels happy about it
Would love to see RDJ play a villain.. a sarcastic Bond villain would be amazing
Drone Dad omg yes! He would be super convincing! And sexy lol
Man I love this guy and his positivity towards life. I don't think he would be the man he is today without the pain he went through. Even the bad times of your life are necessary in creating the person you are now. He is a shining example of that.
"Me? I know who I am. I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude"
RDJ is one if the Realest actors their is, he's right up there wit Keanu Reeves in my book and we all kno how fuckin awesome Keanu is
And he.........is.......Iron Man!
Love these repeat-guest episodes, great to see how these people have evolved since they were last on. Would love, personally, to see Ethan Hawke back on another episode, have listened to his early episode so many times over.
Well said😃
Just listened to RDJ’s first ep. Really looking forward to the update!
*In T'challa voice*
*Get this man an Oscar*
It's good to see that Robert has such a healthy outlook on what's next.
Every fan who's sad to see his tenure end should watch this to help foster a similar mindset.
The moment I saw the notification I came here at the speed of light! Thanks for this!
Me too. Im xcited to see what he does next. Cant wait to see him nd Jude Law on the nxt Sherlock Holmes 😊
Laugh Riot , you're like Pavlov's dog
Part of the journey is the end
I can listen to him talking for hours
I admire this guy greatly. I’ve grown up watching him on TV. Can’t wait to see his future projects. What an inspiration
Love Robert's character rolls. Cant wait to see more of his talent
acting career.
Robert Downey Jr. is such a genuine, brilliant man. Love him!
“And I....am NOT Ironman” is basically what he said.
He’s a skrull
He was trying so hard not to say that
Robert Downey jr pulled of the greatest comeback of all time man can’t wait to see what you do next with you career
the conversation was so deep that i didnt understand what’s the conclusion of that 😂
Robert better win an Oscar
He's so smart and so handsome!
So much respect for this man! Many people give up after going through what he did with drugs. This guy didn't, he's a real fighter.
I miss iron man ☹️
T💋U. Marvel iron man 💋
Years ago, William Shatner had a radical new idea for a tv interview show, "Raw Nerve", where it was just a one on one, no distractions, and go deep on the questions. I love this format. I hate the late night talk shows that only show 2 minutes, and most of it is pre-planned questions. A great interviewer goes deep.
I will, forever and ever, love this man with all my heart. I love you Robert ❤️
“You went full Stark. Never go full Stark.” Much love and respect to RDJ. Been a fan since Weird Science. Here’s hoping he’ll continue to be awesome without the mcu. 👍🏾🍻
I like seeing Robert out of the Tony Stark-ish persona he carried on for Marvel interviews.
Whenever I see the character Ironman in comics I automatically see RDJ.
rdj is so amazing. he is the one who started it all and finished it all. we’re definitely missing tony stark in future marvel movies
You know, this is exactly what Tony Stark would say.
no
He just said he's not the character he's portraying. You kinda missed the whole point bud. "Snap out of it."
It is actually. How much he wanted to snap out of Tony, He is Tony, and part of Tony was him, and that ain't a bad thing.
Wow, the reason why I look up to RDJ is because he's a man of wisdom! :)
He's no different from his on-screen character at all!! Brilliantly cast!
If anyone has the tools to spot dependency and work out how to avoid it, Robert Downey Jr. is the guy. As much as I'll miss his "Tony Stark" role, I am excited to see where he shows up next. Looking forward to Sherlock Holmes if it happens.
Damn this was a good interview !!!!!!
I ligit have been waiting my whole life for this 😂☺️☺️
T❤️U Robert Downey jr marvel

T💕U Robert Downey jr💋
I like how often he glances into the camera. It shows that he’s truly out of his acting headspace and that he’s just talking to a guy in a room with some cameras and a small crew.
Lol it’s funny. I look at this man, and all I see is Iron Man. Love u RDJ. Thx for making Marvel what it is today.
He gave us 10 amazing years as Iron man. Made us all cry. Let him go and do what he wants
I am really looking forward to RDJ's next projects. It's long overdue. He is a very talented actor.
“It’s always good to get ahead of where your about to be” 00:40 this is 10/10.
He’ll probably come back in someway nobody ever really dies in the MCU...unless you quicksilver 😂
The way he talks. That’s such a clear sign of intelligence. It’s like his head is going too fast and too big for him to properly articulate everything
So By Rule Of “Aesthetic Distance”, RDJ......ISN’T Iron Man??? 🥺🥺🥺
Is my whole life just one big LIE?!?!?
I feel like he really wanted to say “I’m not Tony Stark.”
