12 to 15 years ago I purchased the Exped Deluxe insulated mattress with the built in pump. I have the one with synthetic insulation and I have no idea what the R value is. It's the best piece of gear I have ever bought. I am a side sleeper and it is total comfort. I use it on all the backpack trips. I even bought two more for my brothers so they have no excuses not to go camping. I use a sleeping bag cover (much like a divy) from Campmor, it keeps everything clean and keeps me from sliding off the mattress. You are right about Exped, they have the best products and stand behind their products.
yes absolutely a great product. I struggled with spending that much money initially, but me and my back have never been happier. I wish I had one years ago when I was a backpacker.
@@OverlandCallingexactly the same mate, I was hesitant at first but knew I couldn't bear another terrible night's sleep with a failed mattress. Sometimes in life you genuinely do get what you pay for (and some).
Solid review. Pad is very comfy. Definitely a truck camping or horses/side by side pack in piece of gear. My wife loves the Exped. If you need something in the ultralight range, I highly recommend the Nemo Tensor All Season(new version).
I know this is a month late. But the exped is the best camping mattress. Even better than my temperpedic. You’re right on the price, trying to shrink it down when leaving. But, I will continue to purchase this mattress. Great review.
Great video, you're on my wavelength man, I've got the Megamat 10 XLB (same as this, might have a slightly different product name here in the UK), but it's the same for sure. It's like sleeping on a 5* hotel's mattress, incredibly comfy. Having had terrible mattresses before, and little to no sleep because of it when camping, I bought one of these and by far worth the money. Winter or summer, this offers comfort and warmth year round.
I unfortunately had to return my exped megamat 10 to REI becuase it wasn't retaining air. I absolutely loved the mattress when I first got 'into bed' but not happy with the way it lost support during the night. I thought it was a faulty product and hoped to get a replacement but apparently REI is not supporting this product anymore. I'm going to try and find it from another retailer and give it another try. Thanks for the great review.
oh that is no good! I would contact the company directly with your issue. I have not had to reach out to Exped with issues, but I have had outstanding luck with other name brand products backing their stuff. You pay more for name brand, but that service warranty is where you can make the extra money not going through Amazon pay off.
Thanks for making this video. I camp about 40 nights a year and have been struggling to get a good nights sleep. I've tried different cots and sleeping mats but as a side sleeper they're either uncomfortable or I bottom out and can feel the ground. Saw this product recommended on a few sites and think I will head over to my REI to see if I can check it out in person, I'd rather not gamble on whether this will suit me since it's pretty pricey!
Your are most welcome for the vid. Ya just can’t beat trying the mats out in person. Agree 100% that for the money these cost, trying out in person is the way to go before making a purchase. I hope this or one of the other ones in the store work out for you.
The price tag of these always spooked me, but I saw one on display at REI once, decided to lay on it, and realized I couldn't NOT get it. It was amazingly comfortable and as someone who can no longer wild it with a half inch mat, I knew I had to have it. REI definitely sold it to me just by having it out to try even with how stingy I am haha
This looks like a comment I wanted to write. I didn’t buy it yet but REI already sold it. All those times I thought… “man I just need one night in a bed, but it’s 120$ a night for a hotel…”. That no longer exists if I have this pad with me while car camping.
Very easy! that's how a review should be! hold air for 5 day, you feel comfortable on side, liked the material and you discussed the cost! Thanks, for not using music, yelling at us and told us that it's available to try. Thank you!
Yes you can, Exped recommends using their Widget Electric Pump to not run the risk of over inflation. I bought a cheap one from Walmart and used it for a while to test it out and it worked just fine. I was just careful not to over inflate.

I admire your honesty and straightforward even temper. I really enjoyed that review
Thank you very much! I hope it helps you decide which route you want to go.
Loved your review thru and thru. The demeanor, voice, straightforwardness.. Thanks bud, gonna bring myself to one of those REI stores in town.
Thank you very much and I am glad it helped you out!
Just grabbed a used one of these at REI for 50% off. Tag said “used once, nothing wrong.” Not a bad deal!
Awesome find sooo jealous! I hit the REI returned items section in the store every visit. Their returned item website is also has some great deals.
We did too!!! We spend $100 each on two megamat duo’s!!! We feel so lucky!

yeah if I had to backpack with the xped I don’t think I would make it. Thanks for the tip on the Nemo!
Now with new battery operated pump, getting it deflated and back in storage bag is a snap 🎉
Nice! What pump are you using? I am thinking of getting one also.

oops that didn’t come out right about Amazon….what I ment was buying cheap non-name brand stuff in general.

Great video dude. Can’t put a price on a good nights sleep though!
Thanks! I agree and don't regret spending the money for this one bit.
Love my Exped Megamet
yeah great product! I just spent another week sleeping on it on my recent trip. Pulled it up in the RTT since that mattress is a bit hard.
Has your mattress ever gotten wet? If yes, how did you treat it? I inflated it and put it up on it’s side to dry.
It got wet a few times when I was in the storms camping on the beach in NC. I did exactly the same thing to dry it out.

awesome thanks!
Can you use an electric pump to inflate the mattress? Thank you
