A simpler theory would be that Blackbeard has buccaneer DNA, which would explain his strange body -- and perhaps only buccaneers could handle multiple devil fruits.

A lil' side thought I wanna put out there:
If by vegapunks admission that devil fruits are the result of people desiring something strongly enough and bringing it into being is true. We already know luff'ys fruit was brought into being by people collectively believing in nika the sun god and wishing for liberation.
What if inversely, Blackbeard's darkness fruit came into being because of the collective hatred or despair of the types of people who "just want to watch the world burn" who despaired so much that they just want destruction and chaos. Or alternatively the collective apathy, greed, selfishness and indulgence of the celestial dragons and people like them?
If luffy's god fruit nika has the bajirang gun which is related to hunuman. Black beard fruit might be related to Rawan, a human obsessed with power, has multiple sinful heads (12) and is rules with tyranny and power. Diving into Rawan Mythology might reveal more about black beard.

What if Blackbeard is rocks? Just got turned into a kid again by the devil fruit power, but when that devil fruit is an awaken the power doesn’t reverse when the person dies. What if he took on a different name and growing up again made him get split personalities because he had the mind of an adult, but kid emotions and it was to much for a child’s mind so he had to suppress his adult mind until he was older and it caused him to create multiple personalities! So with that explanation, Shinobu Sensui the former detective of the Spiritual World from Yuyu Hakusho can eat 7 devil fruits because of his 7 personalities.
I'm guessing that this "cerberus" devil fruit has the ability to steal, contain and transfer devil fruits BUT it has certain conditions for it to be successful for example., that the targeted devil fruit user has to be dead and the caster needs to be closer to the corpse and it must be fresh corpse so it should have a time limit from its death before he can actually steal the devil fruit. Given the nature of devil fruit where it transfers to nearest fruit after the previous user passed away. Like the theory stated in the video, BB already has the devil fruit before he stole the yami yami no mi. I think controlling multiple devil fruits has something to do with his unique bloodline and not the devil fruit, OR its the other way around? who knows

with the reveal of the buccaneer race, i think we getting closer to the answers about the mystery of Teach body. See to answer the question of why can he use more than one devil fruit, we need to understand what happens to the body when a fruit is eaten. We know from vega punk that devil fruits have souls somewhat because as he explained when a zoan awakens, if their will power isn't strong enough the soul of the fruit will take over. Ok so, where does this soul go when you eat the fruit? well you answered one potential, the heart, we know the heart isn't connected to the devil fruit because like you say the heart switches but the power remains with the body. the only other thing is the body its self, and it seems that so long as the soul of the fruits soul remains dormant then two souls can exist in the same body at the same time, unless, like in the case of luffy, doffy, and katakuri, where the two souls seem to be compatible with one another. With all of that said, the soul of the fruit seems to intergrate with the body of the person that ate it, and we know the body properties of the buccaneer race seem to interest not only Dr. Vega Punk himself, but caused enough fear in the gorosei that they promoted the extinction of the race, and who else do we know that has aspecial body? Black Beard !! could it be that the buccaneer race had a unique ability not only to withstand high levels of damage, but could they also hold in themselves multiple devil fruit, or souls? Could it be that the gorosei feared their existence because there was a time when the buccaneer people held multiple devil fruit powers in defense against the newly formed world government. You all should consider this as the current possiblitity to explain Black Beards multiple devil fruits,
