- On Monday August 2nd 2021 I was peacefully exercising my 1st Amendment rights at the city hall in New Rochelle, NY. After a few minutes there I was approached by staff demanding to see Identification. When I politely refused as is my right…they called the New Rochelle Police Department that’s when things really started to escalate. The Police Violated my rights by removing me from city hall under threat of arrest. Stay tuned for Internal Affairs complaints and upcoming lawsuit. “We The People” will hold them accountable!

In Canada the laws are different he could be arrested for not showing ID for taking video on that kind of property. Just because something is open to the public it doesn't mean it's not private property. Besides there is a difference between law and policies. Breaking policies can end up law as it could be considered breaking the law.

It’s literally for this reason they HATE cameras. They panic, they have no self control, they’re entitled, and never face accountability. For these reasons typically within the first 10 seconds of the interaction, they make a grave mistake. Once they encounter someone who they realize realizes they made that mistake the camera becomes literally like a silver bullet to a vampire they detest it, they hate it. They hate everything about it. Police are protectors of private property. That's it. Always have been, always will be. That's why they don't know how to distinguish protocols for public vs. private. Even the Supreme Court ruled that police officers have no obligation to protect citizens.
Before he even answered I knew the answer. Its a shame he didn't. I understand if people feel a bit threatened tho. It is kinda weird, but not once did you ever raise you voice, tho you did get louder you were pretty calm.
I tried to do somethung similar recently and ended up having a panic attack. I guess mine had more emotional connection regarding my mental state and housing though, so more emotionally binding than filming a building. I got what I needed in the end. I just had to deal with some jobsworths first

When you were talking to the Sargeant about the sign in form next time let the police know that the forms in the lobby are provided by the security company for the security firms record. How much do you want to bet that they sold all of that personal information off, and that is one of many ways we get all of the scam calls and texts we do. It was absolutely sickening to see that they were demanding people sign in with their name and phone number just to go into their town City Hall. And the excuse they gave was even more sickening.
it's not just for the security firms records, but also for the paying customer (the building owners/operators, the company who hired the front desk, etc.). It's so they can see "ok they're doing their job, this is how much traffic we get on average, etc.".
It really depends, sometimes you just make like a pen stroke list (that's what we rn at the court that I'm at), ie for people you search (everyone who isn't a lawyer, bar-applicant, court certified expert or translator and people who work at the court + LEO [police, corrections]).
The only time we take records is if someone is belligerent and there'll be a report on whether they'll get banned (no entry without explicit permission or if they have an appointment) or if they hand in a firearm while they're in court (we don't keep records of other weapons like knifes etc, just firearms and we'll ask for the carry permit once you exit because that way they won't have access to the firearm anymore in case they don't have one, but don't think anyone would be stupid enough to try and get in and leave a gun+pick it up without one, but you never know).

This isn't a training issue. This was an EGO ISSUE! You could tell that they KNEW they had screwed up but because the Sargeant wouldn't let his ego even suggest he could be wrong, the underlings followed suit and continued to justify their actions! This was probably one of the most infuriating videos I've watched! Even after the auditor calmly explained to him where they screwed up they couldn't even figure out a way to gracefully back down. Those are some DANGEROUS cops! Especially the first one that approached! No telling how many rights he's violated or how many heads he's "accidentally" bang on the cruiser door as he's putting them in the back! No cameras either? Geesh!

The tall, unprofessional sergeant in charge on the scene has no mastery of basic law enforcement knowledge. At the very least he needs to lose his sergeant stripes. If he can't show immediate improvement he should de-certified and fired. He's a terrible leader and it shows from the poor performance of his subordinates.

Good grief these cops are absolutely terrible! Nothing they were saying made any sense or could hold up to a simple logic test. They were accusing him of things that never happened, and then they just started making things up. They have no business wearing a badge or having authority over anyone or anything. They were enforcing their feelings and feeding their ego's. We need to know how many false charges they made up to to imprison innocent citizens that challenged their authority and hurt their feelings. That was unreal how out of control they were acting!

Most honest thing the officer said is “I don’t know anything.” You know it’s an issue when the officer takes more time to say “I’ll give it to you when we’re done or it will be in the police report” rather than just giving the name and badge number.
