Gotta say, William Afton/Dave(books) is one of the most successful horror villains ever. Because he has always come back after death and is now more dangerous than ever. As long as he can get people to use VR(not hard especially in that future) he can replicate over and over so even if you purge him from someone's head he's got options.

I think it follows the logic that one of the books mentioned and even William knows about. That it doesn't have to be the whole soul possessing but can be their agony which explains why Glitchtrap acts more carefree than Afton did when he was alive killing kids cleverly to where he was never arrested.
