What a throwback in so many ways, for Lorde and for James blake. I feel like both artists have evolved a lot since then, but thats not a bad thing at all. I feel like this was a special time.
I remember discovering this some years ago on some other channel. I was surprised seeing the thumbnail because i thought she was going back to this look.
Her and Kimbra have my fucking favorite arm movements in recordings like this. No matter how awkward or repetitive they might seem you can see them really focusing.
I don't know what it is, but even having watched multiple interviews and videos with lorde I'm not confident I could pick her out of a line up. And then if you pointed her out and then got me back 6 months later I'd fail again. But if she sings a single note, I'd be on to her in an instant.
Ah, but this is the Age of Twits. I don't envy the job of future historians when they try to sort through the 'records' of this era. Such an abundance of chaff records that bury the wheat. But hey, you know the saying. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. 8D
The instruments are terribly simple and bland in this performance, lacking depth, expression, and probably would have been nice to play reverb and heavier samples. But then again it's from 2014, i'm guessing the Like A Version of today would make sure it was produced more substancialy.
As someone who'd never heard the original I thought she performed the piece wonderfully. Then I went and listened to the Blake's original performance, and I think your (or the) issue is that Blake did such an amazing job with the song in the first place. ..While I'm here, hey triple j, wouldn't it be respectful to the original artist to provide a link to their original in your summary? 🤔

Evolved from Retrograde? The song is perfection...
Real recognizes real.
Very nicely done, Lorde.
Randy Marsh still got it.

This is from 2014, just for people who missed it in the description.
I'd been wondering why my Tuesday had become a Friday. 🥴
Oof long ago lol
Gosh, those were the days.

I was OBSSESSED with Lorde’s lipstick 💄 I wore it all. The. Time.
“now the cherry black lipstick's gathering dust in a drawer”

If music is dying musicians are killing it - Mike patton.
An others are recovering art
This was hard to listen to especially for a James Blake cover… I tried to hang in there but it just got more painful
To: Future potential comment leavers
Yes. We all already know that South Park once referenced Lorde previously. Thanks anyway.
The rhodes is soooooo loud

Soul would be helpful here
As expected for Stan Marsh
I’m not entirely sure what I just watched. For some reason it reminded me of Tropic Thunder😳
Lorde. No kidding, eh?
yall should put me on here next
I wish people would choose either to see a song and appreciate it, or just don't say anything and turn it off.

An entire minute of just vocal exercises??
so those are the best vocal exercises

Well, that was depressing.
Nice to see Randy still performing
Lorde owes us after years of disappearing and dropping a mid Album
The sound of the keyboard is too loud compared to the voice.Too bad.
she really invented singing in cursive and i hate every moment of it
Wtf is this?
First?
Uffff. Her voice doesnt suit this song at all.

It’s a COVER, therefore their own style of rendition and interpretation. Nothing needs to suit anything.
Randy wtf
Depressing
this is a very bad performance
