  • Late last year / early this year I had my lips cosmetically tattooed. Here is a VLOG showing you the process from start to finish for anyone who is interested in having a similar treatment done! Includes footage of the tattooing taking place, price, pain-level, aftercare, healing and before and after shots.
    I know this type of procedure won't be for everyone, but I thought you still might find it interesting even if you don't want to get it done yourself :)

    Since I cannot reply to everyone individually - for everyone who has comment that the price is not worth it:
    - THE PRICE IS STANDARD in the industry at this time (if you come across someone offering to do it for a much cheaper price I would suggest checking their credentials...). Jess charges $750 AUD at this current time (not $800 like we said in the video).
    - THIS IS DIFFERENT TO A TYPICAL BODY TATTOO. Yes, they may charge less for more work but it is a different industry, different machine, different ink, different procedure. I wouldn't walk into a tattoo parlor and ask to have my lips tattooed in the same way I wouldn't ask a beauty therapist to tattoo my back. Maybe in the future the price of cosmetic tattoos will come down in the same way regular tattoos have, but at the moment it is what it is.
    - VALUE IS A PERCEPTION. If you think it is not worth it, then lip tattooing is probably not something you want or need. For example, I don't think it's worth paying $10,000 for a boob job - but that's because I am happy with mine the way they are. Other people might really want to make a change and therefore they think all that money is worth it.
    Please think before you leave another comment about price or worth. This video is purely informational for those who may have been curious about or are interested in getting their lips tattooed. You don't have to get it done yourself and you don't have to think it's worth it. xx Rach

    I used to know an elderly lady who had this done because she enjoyed the look of wearing lipstick, but her hands shook too much for her to be able to apply it. These kinds of "procedures" can be very helpful for people like her.

      +Rachael Annear (Rachael Jade) Fyi, I dont think there's anything wrong with lip tattoo. It's annoying having to apply makeup everyday and I'd totally understand why someone would do it. Depending on how much money you make, your opinion might be different but $700 for me really isnt that bad considering some lipstick cost over $400 a tube.

      +Sue Spood I'm sorry you feel that I responded to someone rudely. I think I have been pretty polite given how horrible some of the comments have been. I'm not sure exactly what response you are referring to, however usually when I'm more blunt with a response it's because the person has commented multiple times and I have had to delete their other comments because of the language used or their bulling or harassing nature. While I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion, the way you express it should be respectful or not at all. I hope that clears things up. Thanks, Rach

    This is for all the people that don't understand lip tattooing as I have had it done my reason was my lips had no definition and no shape my lips were naturally extremely pale some days they would make me look sick as they were so pale. I was sick of applying a lip liner and lip tint every single day it gets very irritating I didn't like going anywere with out lip liner and lip tint so to get a lip tattoo is amazing. Don't be rude if you don't think it's necessary for your body cuz for other people they might think it's necessary

      Maureen Dwelley Thank you !!! It's getting ridiculous. I just watched a video about this guy who lost his job because viewers from RUclips started calling his job and trolling. It got to the point where he was let go. I just can't believe it. Like, who does that? For real. Who calls a company to troll about an employee in hopes of getting them fired? What is wrong with people ? Everyone's so angry , hateful, bitter and just eager to put each other down and watch each other suffer. It's out of control. I'm ready to cut myself off from all social media. I stopped Facebook two years ago and I only have a google plus to give me the ability to save all my RUclips comments and log in games I play on my phone. But I'm ready to stop RUclips as well it's all a friggin mess.

    Thank you for showing us this process. I think it looks beautiful and I don't understand the person who's disappointed. It's not their life to be disappointed about or disappointed in you or anyone else who makes a choice. I think this procedure would be incredibly important for someone who is been a burn victim or an older person who is losing their lip line and would just feel more confident to actually have lips that show. Some people's lips don't even show up, and the older we get the more they fade and get thin. It doesn't seem like a lot of money for something that could make you feel better about your appearance. Other thing that is a pain in the ass when you get older is the lines that appear around your lips that make your lipstick and lipgloss gravitate everywhere. This would be a fantastic solution. You could just throw on some gloss and look healthy and natural. I think it's really amazing

    • @RachaelJade
      @RachaelJade  8 лет назад +224

      I think you have made some very valid points Gail. Part of Jess' training was to also be able tattoo eyebrows for those who may have lost their due to illness or cancer treatments as well as be able to tattoo areoles for someone who may have had a mastectomy. Both would go along way to making someone feel better after having to deal with so much. Yes they may be cosmetic procedures and people can be quick to judge as vain, but there are important psychological effects that feeling and looking "normal" too. Fake isn't always bad xoxo

  • @RachaelJade
    @RachaelJade  8 лет назад +291

    In relation to the longevity of the procedure, while it is referred to as 'permanent makeup', it will fade. The tattooing will generally last approx. 2 - 3 years depending on the person. If you have naturally flakey lips or exfoliate regularly then the colour will fade more quickly. It can also depend on your body's metabolic rate as to how quickly the ink breaks down. I have herd that the more times you have it done over the years, the longer you can go between needing refresher, but I am not 100% certain on how true that is :) xx

    • @bradymedlin7943
      @bradymedlin7943 8 лет назад +11

      +Chelsea Rodriguez they can't. The skin on your lips flakes of more than your actually skin, so it doesn't last as long as a tattoo would on say your arm or something. All tattoos fade, but how fast it does depends on where it is and your metabolism and all that good stuff.

    • @MrVoldyswife
      @MrVoldyswife 8 лет назад +2

      +Chelsea Rodriguez actual tattoos do fade through the years but I believe the ink is different. At least that's what I've heard.

    • @cnith2
      @cnith2 8 лет назад +1

      +Chelsea Rodriguez The skin on your arm is "tougher" than the skin on your face so when they ink it on the arm the ink goes in deeper than when they do your face. Therefore, it does fade but not disappear completely. I suppose if they tattooed shallower on your arm they could make it disappear after a while but with the cost, it's probably not as effective...? Like, would you really pay thousands for a tattoo taht fades after a couple of months or years? I wouldn't.

    • @moontiggsland
      @moontiggsland 8 лет назад +1

      +Miranda Faye you're right! The ink used for tattooing is acrylic ink, hence the vibrancy of the colours and how long they last. For permanent makeup mineral ink is used. Your body will reabsorbe it but you never can be specific on how long as it depends on each person...specially if they problems like anemia

  • @Selsmittenxo

    Guys, some people have different coloured lips, uneven, or a non defined outer edge. Most people want a natural "your lips but better" colour..... That's why they tend to choose a similar colour, especially for the first time. Just like using lip liner to define or changed the shape to look fuller etc. Why are most of y'all so closed minded o-e.... Yes the price is expensive, I wish it weren't, but keep in mind you're paying for the product, tools used, experience, and obviously the person performing the procedure and the time of how long it takes to do and see results + plus treatment and touch up. Most of the materials/products aren't cheap to get because they're supposed to be specifically formulated to be safe to use. If this isn't for you, then simply don't get it~ simple. This is a business and for those that want it 😓🙄😒

      Selina Li I agree! My reason for wanting it is definitely because I have a pale line that, unless you're looking for it, you usually couldn't see. I also have a crease in the side of the left upper lip. SOOOO, when I do my makeup I tend to hear that I've over drawn, simply because pigment is practically non existent. Frustrating.

    • @low8739
      @low8739 7 лет назад +1

      Selina Li I would do that just to have the definition and for my lips to look fuller. I'm sure that a huge part of the cost is for the technician's artistry. It isn't something everyone can do, and I'm sure it wasn't her friend's first day. 😊

    • @toryheartsdepp
      @toryheartsdepp 7 лет назад +2

      Selina Li if I were to do it, it would be because I have an undefined outer edge in some parts of my lips. Some people just don't get it, it doesn't bother me much but idk why people get mad at how other choose to spend thier own money and live thier lives.

    Since 2002, I've had my eyeliner (top & bottom lashes), eyebrows, & lips tattooed. It's only required one touch up on my lips. I can still change my eyeliner & lip color as before. I just do not look gaunt when I wake in the morning. I LOVE IT & NEVER regretted getting the procedures. Mine were performed in a docs office with local numbing. So pain wise, my lips were the worst part of the procedure. I didn't have any pain surprisingly with eyebrows or eyeliner. I choose a red brown shade for my lips, a natural brown for brows, & black for eyeliner. Colors that I wear most often but still lean towards a natural beauty look. FYI: My practitioner said her biggest complaint from clients is they initially choose a shade that's too light for their lips. So they end up having to do it over again with a darker shade. Afterwards, I was given Bactrban antibiotic ointment to assist in healing. The next day I felt great & was able to do all my normal activities. The worst part of after care is the skin peeling. The urge to pick off or even tug @ loose skin can remove the pigment color. The lips were the most uncomfortable & felt like bad case of chapped lips with a slight sunburn. I healed completely in a 5-6 days. The freedom to wake up & look amazing was phenomenal, on top of being handy. I also had laser removal. Tattooed make up & later hair removal has made my life so much more easy! I definitely would recommend it to family & friends.

    I have heard comments for decades now about beauty trends or processes as vain, stupid, or gross. You have every right to do so. I just want you to know what a great percentage of people will think about you when you do so. You are being judgemental, being ignorant - as in uneducated - backwards or sheltered from the world, or insecure about your own looks and therefore feel that you must put down others to make you feel better. If you don't want to get your lips tattooed, don't do it. It isn't necessary to be negative all your life. Try finding something that makes your days happy that doesn't hurt others in the process.
    Rachel, I think you did a very great service to all your viewers with this video. Very few friends would ever consider going to such lengths to help them out. Best wishes and regards.

      No, putting lipstick on isn't hard, but some people don't like the feel of lip products, but like the look. Who cares if it makes them happy?

    How to optimise yourself:
    1. get your teeth bleached to an unnatural titanium white
    2. have your eyebrows, lash line and lips tattooed (so you can so "makeup-free" #nomakeup #allnatural #justwokeuplikethis)
    3. have your lips injected if too small (a.k.a. not Kylie Jenner-looking)
    4. have all of the body and unwanted facial hair laser removed
    5. have your private body parts bleached to make them look more "pleasant"
    6.6.6. have your boobs and butt enlarged
    7. have any remaining unwanted body fat removed
    8. wear a corset to shape and minimise your waistline and get an hourglass-figure
    9. undergo plastic surgery and facial (and other) reconstrution to erase any natural flaws in your features.
    And you'll have: A plastique doll.

      I think it's great. If you don't want it, don't do it. But if you feel unhappy with your appearance, you can change it. You can go for whatever you want and if for any reason you feel like you were supposed to be a cat, you can have surgery and be a cat. Well, not really but as close to a cat as possible. Why is it sad, that people can change their appearance? You don't need to do it! But why shame people who want to?

    • @AngelPrimsepski
      @AngelPrimsepski 8 лет назад +2

      +Alice L I agree. I feel like people get "disappointed" by this kind of thing because people are making themselves flawless and as close to perfection as they can by surgery or makeup and these people just dont want to, but at the same time feeling like they have to compete with flawless people makes them upset, and yes, JEALOUS !

    • @Fireprincessangel
      @Fireprincessangel 8 лет назад +8

      +Sophiesticated The point, if you've watched the video and/or read the description to the video, is clearly explained. But the main point, as you can see, is to show the process of a lip tattoo over time. The whole video is basically just something to try and experience on for others to see what it's like and use it as a recommendation. If lip tattooing is not for you, then don't try it. But don't bash on others who have and/or have a liking to it.

    • @CCass-jv4fx
      @CCass-jv4fx 8 лет назад +2

      +Y. L. M. I don't think this person was bashing the process. She was just sharing her opinion about it. An opinion which wasn't negative or positive. I was thinking the same thing. I was questioning why would anyone go through all that as well. She looks fantastic in that color. But I wouldn't pay for a tattoo when I can just put on lipstick.

    the price is ridiculous for $800 i could have a highly skilled artist spend the whole day tattooing detailed art on my body it should not be that expensive thats a total ripoff for something that only takes 2 hours and requires essentially no skill or detail

    • @wrymecheers
      @wrymecheers 8 лет назад +12

      +Ebby Cat Cosmetic tattooing is very different from regular tattooing, it is a different skill and requires different training. It also does take skill and detail, I'm not sure why you think it does not.
      Also, my tattoo artist takes $175 per hour, while that would be more than two hours, I don't need a mandatory touch up like the lip tattoo does (which takes another 2 hours) and as I said, it's just something different entirely. :)

The touch up session was at the end of my Christmas leave so I wasn't at work, but I still just went about my life. I think other people pay less attention then we think LOL. While I do not plan on getting this done I still found the video very informative and worth the watch. Thank you for taking your time out to film everything and I hope Jess gets the business in and enjoys her studies/course. I think that this type of tattooing is very important simply due to like you said in a comment on here, there are people of whom did not make the decision to have a mastectomy (obviously) and I just find it wonderful that there are options out there for those women as well. And I mean, as for the rude comments, it is not their decision/they didn't have to do it to themselves and it's just extremely rude and unnecessary (just like they wanted to comment the procedure itself was.) Chin up buttercup! The outcome was beautiful.

    Thank you so much for your video! I had been considering getting my lips tattooed for a few months and your video was really helpful for preparing me for what the experience is like. I have some healed but visible scarring around my lips and I've always been self conscious about it, especially when you're a teen. I got my lips lined and I am so happy with the results.
    For anyone who thinks its not worth it, for me it was. My confidence has improved and I could not be happier. Many people might not be aware that cosmetic tattooing is life changing for people especially for those with scars eg cleft lip scar, from accidents, breast cancer survivors etc.

    I had my eyeliner and brows done a few years ago. I choose to have them "touched up" every year/every other year even thought it's not needed that often.
    I have been contemplating having my lips done. Obviously I am very familiar with permanent cosmetics but not having the lip procedure before I was curious about how they looked just after, how the healing process was etc. I have discussed this with the woman who does my work but it's not the same as seeing it. I found this video not only answer all questions but even some had not thought of.

    I would pay $800 for a normal tattoo, but not on my lips. Going through that process TWICE on my lips, struggling to eat, only to have it last a few years when a $20 lipstick lasts as long as it does. That's rough. Plus, $800 spent on a regular tattoo gives you a super intricate design that covers a MUCH larger area than your lips. Those cosmetic tattooers really capitalize on a much smaller overhead cost. They look awesome though and I think it's great that you love them so much (: Rough recovery though

      Lip tattoo's are mostly for people who don't have time i apply lipstick, or people like me who just can't apply lipstick xD also it doesn't stain and won't come off easily.. So you don't have to worry about lipstick smudges all over your glasses

    Thank you for showing this video step by step. I did have mine done 15 years ago. I have a medical condition where I have tremors in my head and hands. I also did my eyeliner. Not and easy process. But I would not be able to line everyday with the shaking. While in the waiting room I met a blind woman in her late 60s. Her husband had been doing her makeup and as sweet as he was, it wasn't a great look. She was so excited to get it done and know that it was done well. I think there are a lot of people out there that would be interested and this video addresses all the issue. Thanks again - Sue in Michigan USA

What a confidence booster to eat a meal out and know your lips look great after- without having to run to the ladies room and reapply. Same with beach, pool or lake days. Work outs..
    Anyway, beautiful girl! Beautiful results!!

    I'm happy that it didn't hurt as much during the perfecting session. Normally, touching up a tattoo hurts a lot more because you're going over scar tissue that was made there through the first tattoo process, and it's normally significantly more painful. I remember getting my forearm tattoo touched up and it was awful.

    I have spontaneous but very painful reactions to lip products, sometimes to lip glosses or sticks I've been using for months. My lips get very tight, begin to die, and become swollen and it's very painful. Vaseline is the only thing that doesn't make my lip skin die so permanent makeup seems like a cool idea, except for that it looks really painful!
