I"m running this NOW-- MY customized version.... I've distro-hopped a LOT- and back and forth and keep finding one I THINK is "IT" and ALWAYS come back to this for the stability and function.... I think this is rEALLY IT- because I come back to this one OVER even Debian/LMDE 5 or any of the old "faithful" ones..
I run this as my daily driver! FlatPak is built in. I run through the welcome app one by one and by the end everything is perfect. This is Debian 11. Steam and my Nvidia/Intel Dell Vostro 7590 needs some special code for each game so OS uses Intel GPU & steam games use Nvidia GPU. The Nvidia installer in "Welcome" installs the best drivers & setup. I still have issues with repo list and keys but I switch to FlatPak if I can't get it working. This even has "lsyncd" in repo. I set it up to backup key folders to my "Storage" drive. I could just have "home" on a second hard-drive but this way I can have a duplicate of home & /etc because I have custom code in "LFTP" config. Had an issue with m.2 drive unmounting and vanishing, turned out to be a bios "improved settings" crashing things. Very stable, love it.
Used to run MX. It's a really pleasant OS and it's no wonder it's been top of distrowatch for so long. These days I've gone back to Gecko Linux with Cinnamon desktop for that polished out of the box Open Suse experience
@@eBuzzCentral I just like how the tumble weed editions always update. Install once and just update forever. I know most people get put off by the theming but I've changed mine to suit what I like, it's the joys of linux
I've had kde for a while now-- LOVE IT-- want to check this out... if I can learn to customize xfce as well as i can kde- I'd go for that-- lighter and faster... less resources too.. still same tools.. GREAT distro!!!
XFCE is looking better than the last time I used it, enjoying Pop!_OS too much atm, but if I ever get tired of that It's possible that MX will be tested.
@@rmcellig because it never failed with my newer equipment, always had issues with any Debian or Debian based distro. LMDE5 being out now, I'd put that up there too over Ubuntu for newer, somewhat less computer savvy users. I use Manjaro as well and like it a lot, but it can occasionally break things with updates that newer users probably wouldn't want to bother trying to fix. Cheers.
@@WR3ND Agree with your point. Manjaro is great, but periodicaly need some actions from user (in turn, it gives alot for that). But new user often don't want additional actions, it has enough actions initiated by themeselves.
@@borise4104 Yeah, but on the other hand Manjaro has a better track record with me than Windows 10 in terms of updates that break things - I don't use Windows 10 personally, though I do support it on a handful of systems. lol Kind of puts things in perspective. YMMV Cheers. :)

One more comment... For those who like the Cinnamon desktop from Linux Mint, it's in the MX Repos, and adds on just fine over XFCE. I used Cinnamon on it when I used to use it.
I prefer setting up Xfce to my liking over using Cinnamon anyway, though ironically I'm liking LMDE5 as well. I'm having a tough time deciding between MX and LMDE for the family - I use Debian and Majaro with Xfce. Cinnamon is like 75% of the way there by default, but that last 25% is a bit of a hassle, whereas Xfce is like 50% of the way there by default, but that last 50% is pretty straightforward for me... if that makes any sense. Out of the box, I think Cinnamon is better, but overall I think Xfce is. lol Anyway... cheers. :)
I am running 5.14, but I am on Arch. Very good, the ASH., in my opinion. Oh, funny story, I have an Asus ROG laptop (5 years old). When I was on Win 10 I had to install Asus software to get the keyboard backlight to work. On ANY Linux distro, the keyboard lights up by it self. ROFL

I used to love MX Linux, until I found that there is so much you can't do with Debian Stale. ...I mean Stable. Debian Sid rules. I tried adding Sid to MX. Broke it. LOL. It is possible to add Sid to LMDE, if you do it just right. But no point. Instead of using anything built on Debian, I just use Debian. Same with Arch. I like to start with vanilla Arch, but I will cheat by using Arch-GUI, and not lose a minute of sleep over it. But MX is great, if you don't mind Debian Stable.

@@eBuzzCentral I'm a big fan of Manjaro Xfce as well, but for me it's been maybe once a year or so where an update will break something. I've been able to sort it out, but I doubt most users would have bothered. Latest issue was related to Nvidia dropping new feature driver support for my Titan Black cards, but an updated was pushed out on Manjaro for them anyway, so the drivers basically wouldn't let the drivers run, so I had to clean the system of them and install the older drivers manually from the terminal. Anyway, I really do like Manjaro a lot, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for people wanting a more reliable and/or newbie-friendly system.

What's the obsession with "simple" and "stable"?
Because for first time users coming to Linux, that is what they're looking for.
